The opposing faction, in my case Order. They did a great job in instilling a real sense of faction rivalry here.
After only playing to rank 17 and RR 14, I've grown to already absolutely despise Order. All their ugly Dwarven healers and tanks, stupid ugly orange Bright Wizards, goofy looking androgynous elves and pets...I can't stand the site of them and have quickly grown to feel at home amongst the Super-Model-Sexy Dark Elves, the cute and cuddly goblins, the ferocious and battlehardened Chaos and the extra fearsome bloodthirsty Orcs.
The fact that Order turtles like they were born with a shell on their back in every single scenario where they can turtle it up with their 6 rune priests 4 archmages and invincible ironbreakers holding on to the relic/pacifier/flag like they would die in real life if they ever let anybody near it makes me despise them all the more.
I'll close this by saying this is quite a far cry from WoW where it didn't matter what faction you were on as you shared the same city and just kind of /waved and /danced with members of the opposing faction as if they were your butt buddies in real life. I really enjoy the sense of "Omg if I see one more freaking Ironbreaker getting heal botted by 4 rune priests and 3 archmages as they hold the relic for 15 minutes at their spawn I will scream at my computer like the angry german kid..."
Mythic has nailed the whole feeling of cross faction rivalry as it should be. I mean, I actually start to enjoy seeing the dead dwarves being tied to a cross in my Warcamps and tortured Empire citizens being chased by hell hounds in the Inevitable City, I think "Serves them right.", before I start to realize that I'm thinking this about a NPC for crying out loud. Well done, loving it and I can only sense the loathing growing stronger as time goes by and we start battling it out for control of one another's city. I really really want to see those Order players suffer and lose all their chips and will do what it takes to make sure my side is victorious. I'm sure there are many Order players feeling the same way I would guess.

I know, I am trying both Order and Destruction.
It's a real weird feeling. I am walking around going "I....I....have to KILL Unicorns?" and clicking on people in purple in order to attack them, when I realize that "Oh wait, I am evil....those are my guys"
I am going to have to pick only one side in the long run.
I see what you mean, I guess. Mythic did do a good job with faction rivalry.
Personally, I like to remember that the people I'm hammering upon in PVP situations are, like me, just trying to play a game and have some fun. I can't "hate" the opposite faction because it's not composed of Dark Elves and Chaos and whatnot, it's composed of people who may not be much different from me in real life.
But, hey, I'm glad you can really get into it like that. Maybe I'm just disillusioned.

Wow sounds like someones old lady left them for an ironbreaker. They are pretty badass as I myself play a runepriest just so I can hang out with them to get chicks.
Playing- Guild Wars 2, SWTOR

I predominently play Destruction, but since a friend of mine plays Order with his wife and wants to group with me from time to time as well, I rolled a dwarf ironbreaker. I have to tell you, I feel like I'm betraying "my people" when I play this Order character. I actualy feel a little dirty. It's like a breath of fresh air when i go back to my menacing black orc and start to hack away at stunties. I never had this kind of loyalty feeling for a game faction before. Kind of cool. Indeed I agree Mythic has pulled off something really cool here.
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
I play on RP servers. The whole "let's keep it real guys while we play our orcs and elves ok" thing was never for me.
"Hi I'd like to remember you as just some guy in real life, sitting in his chair just like me, with a headset on, that makes me think we should be friends and maybe go catch a movie or something after the game. Do you like Seinfeld, I LOVE George lol he makes me laugh! We can be best friends we have alot in common "
I prefer getting into the character and playing along it adds that much more to the game. Luckily I see everyone (on my server at least) getting into just as much as I do, enhances the experience by a great deal. It's not for everyone though I can see how some guy sitting at his pc playing a game with orcs and elves can be anti-role play though, because he's obviously WAY cooler than those guys right.
I play on RP servers too, but I never forget that everyone is just playing a game trying to have fun.
I dont think the OP is suggesting he actually hates "the players" who are controlling the characters.
Great post btw..
I think it spoils it if you play both sides. I remember in DAoC, there was this sense of mystery about the opposition if you didnt play as them on a different server.. I did eventually and kindof regret it.. nice to see things from the one viewpoint and really get stuck into your faction and character.
I've always played as an Orc when i could in the past... it was the race i liked most... but since all servers Order where the outnumbered i rolled as a Empire Warrior Priest... what is possibly just my most hated class in most games, a paladin... I have gone against my whole MMO fantasy belief system and you know what...
I HATE THOSE DAMN ORCS!
Those big rhino like machines are so tough to take down that i love to see em fall... Yeh mythic got it right... it feels like WAR and you should only really play one side or you will dilute your experience (IMO only).
Order - Underdogs till the end.
Personally I like to think the guy I am bashing in the head with my 2 handed sword is really an Orc in real life.. cuz if we should ever meet.. I will be ready.
I just hope that telling the judge he was flagged for pvp... works...
Being the carebear I am, often in PVP centred games I find myself thinking "hey, cant we talk it over and share the land?" all too often. In the role, teh. Guess I am too soft for war, but I cant make myself hate the enemy. those poor Chaos guys and Dark Elves are just misled, and Greenskins just dont know better. I pity them. After I burned them.
This is the game i've been waiting for!
Formerly i was a quint-boxer in WoW (PvP server) but playing WAR has killed my interested in WoW altogether. This is the type of PvP i've been looking for and despite how much I wanted to deny that end game wasn't about PvP (for me) it infact is.
I thought I was a PvE type but infact I'm not and enjoy nothing more then running down PC's.
Public quests are a nice change too!
Playing: varies every day it seems.
Good post
I hate those damned Orcs!
I'm going Path of Stone on my Ironbreaker so I can laugh even harder as these big lumbering green things try and bash my little armored head in to no avail.
STOP WHINING!
that's exactly what I think, you gotta own the other side in order to live live with yourself.
Desto turtles just as much as order does and our guild makes it a point not to.
But anyways yeah I really hate greenskins. When I played a engineer in beta I took pride in launching a goblin flying with my lvl 8 morale. Sending them off the fortress in nordenwatch or the hill in STC, I looked forward to every time I used it. And now in live on my IB if I have a choice in healers or ds to kill I find myself attacking squigs and shamans. Can't wait for my knockback.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

Do you play on Ostermark?

STOP WHINING!
"Serves them right" indeed. Hehe. Loved your post.
My brand new bloggity blog.
Funny, but true. For my part, I hate your freaking Chosen with a passion as purple as their auras. Forget trying to be mobile when one's around. You can't get through his armor unless it's six against one, and thanks to that aura you can't get away from him to go after a softer target. If he's got his beady little eyes on you (at least, I assume there are eyes under that helmet), you're well and truly screwed. Your only hope is that something will distract that pea brain of his.
Order my name is Karakgrom and I am in the guild Templars.

Yep they did do a nice of job of inspiring hatred without the 'corpse camping' mechanic being added. I rolled a Black Orc and when you're constantly knockeddown or knocked back by Ironbreakers for a dozen levels you just want to stomp the hell out of those darn stunties. Everything gets peachy at Rank 18, AOE knockback ftw.
LOl same thing happened to me
I was in a small team and I saw 2 lovely favourite squishy targets my favourite Bright Wizard.Suddenly I realised I am a Warrior Priest on this server and I need to heal the damn thing instead of hacking it
Some people play with absolute loyalty on either side so dont have conflicts
RVR scenario1 - Ha ha look at the noob Order players .They deserved to be pawned
RVR scenario 2- Damn the destruction side Those people are way too overpowdered and overpopulated Nerf them ( Second later wait dont nerf I am chosen on another server)
I'm a very calm person by nature, but when I'm playing WAR I turn into a hate-filled monster, and I'm Order!
The guys on ventrilo are forever cracking up and I throw out expletives and question the parentage of my enemy as it's very unlike me.
That's cool? I really hate Destruction. Easy-mode, look ugly as sin and overpopulated. Everyone who rolls Destruction is seeking to further imbalance the sides and go on the easy-mode side, period. Order for the win.
when u graduate kindergarted and start playing a real mmo then come see us.
