AMD versus Pentium

Ok, I'm looking to build a computer but not sure which way to go.  Pentium seems to have more speed but most gamers prefer AMD.  Can anyone clear this up?

    amd 64 is faster than any current pentium period.

    The AMD64 is the best CPU out there- beats the P4 down hard.

    I agreee... AMD is much better, especialy for gaming.

    +1 to the AMD count for me as well.

    AMD here too.  I have never owned a Intel CPU and never will (And I have bought quite a few)

    Tom has been about for alot of years now and I believe Intel or AMD don't own him.  Unlike most of the magazines about today.

    If you have the money go for a 939 socket with 1Ghz Hypertransport.  This should (the word, not fact as yet) take full advantage of EQ2s new technology when Windows XP finally goes 64 bit.

    Well, the 754s with the 1mb cache will be better suited to Windows 64- as the extra cache will help.

    i myself like pentium... right now there is nothing that uses 64bit processor so for scaleability i would choose AMD... but right now its more brand preferance. intel will be comming out with a 64bit proc, AMD just got to it first

    Wrong, many linux and  microsoft XP 64 OS uses 64-bit- Unreal tournament 2004 and other video games are coming out in 64 bit. AMD64s are currently the fastest CPU at 32-bit code and you will be able to use 64bit code a year from now. If you've seen the latest review, the amd 64 3400,3500 running at 2.2 beat the shit out of 3.6 intel with PCI-E. Intel is crap, its all about the ghz and not about effective design. Anandtech also has been saying the intel 64 prescotts will not be as good as the amd64s.

    The AMD-64s are faster than the P4's.  Check out all of the benchmarks and do a lot of research!! image
