I almost always pick out a female and name it a female name if at all possible. (In some games, all knights are males LOL) I do that because I think its more fun dressing up a woman than dressing up a man. I know that a male knight usually looks cooler as it gets stronger, but female characters usually wear skimpier outfits as you progress LOL.

This, particularly in City of Heroes.  Some of the guys have the Flanders' Skisuit deal going on, what with all the Spandex, so I tend to play women more often.  My main is a guy though, a big hulking Brute of a character.  I don't really bother with acting like a female though, since I tend to be a little clueless about how they act to begin with.  I play them like I play any other character of a given class.

Why is this?  For men, more armor = higher armor class whereas for women LESS armor = higher armor class.  Maybe they should change the name from 'armor class' on female characters to 'persuasion'.  Then at least it makes some sort of logical sense.

It is persuasion. Of course wouldn't it be wierd to change something like a Divine Armor Set to Divine Persuasion Set. (Divine Persuasion huh... That sounds a little...)

i always play females. for the same reason already listed - if i got to stare at a butt al day it might as well be one i enjoy looking at.

As for names i try to make the first name for my characters reflect what they are. The last name (if avalible) is always Winters, because the name of the guild i belong to is called Winters Knights...

Ranger or hunter = Nature or Feather Winters   Necro or undead = Dark or lifeless Winters    Warrior = Gina Winters (Zena is always being used LOL)    Ele or mage = depends on what school of majic but Freezing Winters or a name that means Fire usually    healer = Healing Winters  in requim = Nightmare Winters      and in any game if availble i'll use Lyssa Winters (name of one of the Gods in G.W.)

    so on and so forth.

Some where up above it says i'm a cross dresser... oh well been called worse,... normally right after i miss a heal

mmmm, maybe that was more info than needed...

It's pretty sad that people play females to look at their asses while they play... you shouldn't be getting all jacked up on pixelated cheeks

I play a male because i'm a male. It leads to less confusion, less guys hitting on me, and something feels morally wrong about playing a girl to me.  Meh

Of course, i think it's a shame to limit oneself to only one gender..i don't really understand the real difference between playing as an orc, tauren, whatever and playing as the opposite gender.. it's all in the game anyway.

I say play as whatever you want as long as you have fun, it's a game after all..

Can't say i've ever noticed any different attitudes towards any female characters that i've played, and i've never expected any either. I just play as whatever i think fits the class or my mood at the moment, in fact i actually prefer female characters as in most games i've they've had more fluid animations, and it's always fun seeing a female run around chopping things down with big-ass two-handed weapons.

Nope, feel no need to play a woman.

To me it sounds rather lame to roll a female cause "she's hot", sounds like some people don't get much laid...

I'm male, play male, and am very comfortable with that.

As for women I enjoy them in both in RL and ingame, - and that doesn't allways mean sexual

I'm far too vain and play only copies of myself in MMORPG's - or at least as close as I can get a character to appear like me through character customization.

Even in Star Wars Galaxies where you had all sorts of different looking races running around, I created 'myself' in that universe despite loving the feeling of being surrounded by other races.  I want to 'be there', not be someone else completely per-se.

Very rarely do I deviate from that - and generally only through actual role playing.

I don't play female characters.  No appeal or interest to either.  Many friends do play both sexes but it's just not for me.

Interestingly enough, the female friends I have who enjoy MMORPG's don't play male characters.

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

It's an interesting social study both in the games and this very discussion.  If anyone is looking to write a paper for Sociology, Psychology, or even Expository Writing, here would be the place to get source material.  The reasons why guys play girls and girls play girls are quite interesting, I think.
