Hunter's path: Beast mastery, Marksmanship or Survival?

I was wondering what path can I take as a PVP hunter. Can somebody enlighten me?

Depends on which pvp.  If you are talking about AV, Lake Wintergrasp or open world pvp, all 3 have thier benefits.  Survival is probably the more interesting of the 3.   BM and MM are simpler, Surviv is more complicated but more powerful if done well

If you are talking about Arena.. well  I'd spec Restro .. as in a druid.   The new arena maps are an improvement, but Hunters suffer from LOS issues more than any other class... if you do want to do Arena, then survival is definitely the way to go but don't expect to break 1800 or have an easy time finding a team.

Here's a little bit more useful information you may find interesting, here we go...

If your looking to do PVP things are not that different. Survival was, for a long time, considered the ideal spec for a Hunter in PVP. With the advent of the Arena, things have changed. These days it really is more a matter of preference, but overall, Beast Mastery seems to be the preferred spec. With the enhancements to armor and pet effectiveness, most Hunters will tell ya that BM is the way to go. Of course, as with raiding, there are some who do prefer MM with its overall higher DPS output and the fact that it does not rely on a pet, which can be crowd controlled or killed, thus halving the hunter's output. In the end it's more a matter of an individual player's skill in a given spec. PVP especially relies more on how comfortable you are with a given spec since it will require more unscripted actions when playing against another human player.

Hope that sheds more light on things, hopefully you have a little bit better understanding now...

Umm, this advice is entirely false.  Please disregard it, OP.

41-20 BM is and has been for the whole of BC the premier DPS spec for hunters.  You can ask that either on the WoW hunter forums or on any major raiding forum if you don't want to take my word for it.  The dominance of BM for hunter DPS doesn't appear to be changing in Wrath.  Yes, there are very specific raid bosses in which pets are toast almost automatically, but against most bosses, a smart hunter can keep their pet alive.

In fact, marks is the least useful spec on raids.  Even SV is better.  Even if they take no other hunters, most raids with a heavy physical DPS component will take one survival hunter for EW and improved mark.  Unfortunately, when 3.0 hits, EW is becoming a self-only buff, and improved mark no longer buffs melee AP, so SV is losing some raid utility there.  Hunting Party may make that up, as it gives SV hunters a pseudo-mana battery role, ala spriest.

In PvP, heavy BM shines a lot less.  Against any competent arena team, your pet will die within the first ten seconds of an arena match starting.  It will die within five seconds of you raising it, if you can even manage to raise it (which probably won't happen).  This is one of the big causes for arena hunter QQ.  This is why hunters are the new mages, as far as being the QQ kings is concerned.  BM in PvP is mostly seen in BG's and world PvP, where you can get away with pretty much any spec.

Almost all high-rated arena hunters are using a mixed marks-surv spec (heavy on the marks).  That said, there are very few hunters in high-rated arena.  At present, hunters have the lowest representation in upper brackets by a significant margin.  Unless you're damn sure you can play a hunter well, and you have a solid partner, I wouldn't even bother with arena.  Resto druid-hunter is the most popular pairing for high-rated hunters at 2v2.
