Err.. hate to bust your bubble here, but the goldsellers are just getting warmed up.

Unless Mythic has done something different than their previous games for dealing with goldsellers/spammers, their current track record will be about average for the market. Which means if War is really really a success, youll see more and MORE of them. LOTS more.

Goldspammers can make spams faster than anyone can ban them. Mythic didnt really ban 1k goldsellers.

They banned probably a few auto programs, made by one guy or something.

Id say about the only thing with days numbered is the relative peace/calm now before the goldsellers REALLY hit Mythic unfortunately.

I am glad to see WAR making WAR on gold servers. After my third day of playing I see a gold spamming message and I yelled at my computer "damm it did not take them long " I am not that far into WAR yet but from what I have seen I do not need vast amounts of gold in order to be competitive. I hope they chopp'in em up!!

I read the blog Mark made on the gold seller issue and it was refreshing and reassuring. I hope they keep focussing on it like they do now.

You yourself even said that you have not made it that far yet which suggests to me that WAR will probably show you like most mmo's have there is some "money" specific time sink down the road, and as long as there are things in game that will take players countless hours to gain/achieve there will be gold spammers. I'd be willing to bet that they are probably some of the first to "join" the game especially new games which create plenty of buzz like WAR has.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I am sure you are right there will be some need for money. However, the mechanics which war seems to be based on especially in later content is working with other to achieve your goals which is simply killing your enemy and sacking their city. Even if my weapons are the uber best I can still help my side out with tactics and team work. Yeah, it is nice to have great stuff  but really is there really that much difference between a green or blue item as in WOW? From what I have seen which I admit it not much at this point since I am still trying out the different classes you can get nice stuff just by doing the public quest. Even in WOW they seemed to have countered gold farmers by being able to get epic items just playing in BGs. I think what will be big is the powerleveling part as everyone seems to be in rush to get to the end .

The only way to effectively and permanently get rid of gold sellers is to cause the market to dry up.  If nobody is willing to buy, then it's no longer profitable to to work the game.

The only way to dry up the market is to take an approach that I doubt any company will have the guts to do:  very publically announce that if you buy gold, you'll get banned and then follow through on that.

Gold sellers don't care about the accounts that are being used.  It's just a numbers game to them.  Players, on the other hand, make an emotional investment into the game and their character.  They're not buying gold because they don't enjoy or don't really care about the game; they buy gold because they enjoy the game a little too much.  If it comes down to continuing to play or buying gold that they'll never get to enjoy, they'll choose not to buy every time.  And once the market dries up, the farmers will go to greener pastures very quickly.  They can only afford to absorb the cost of banned accounts so long as there are profits from enough gold sales.

Hehe, well you are missing out on xp.  I unlocked a new title yesterday after I added my 5th gold-spammer to my ignore list.

I am now Ohatro, The Snob.  I got a good laugh out of that.

  • If it wasn't for the spam, I'd be rooting on the gold sellers (as I strongly support RMT).  But I hate spam like the rest of you, so gogo Mythic.

Way back when in the days of Ultima Online and Everquest, gold sellers were mostly players who had too much gold and were selling their extra.  From there some people started working on making gold, but it remained very small, a real cottage industry.  At this point, I had nothing against RMT.

Today gold selling has turned into: how to exploit the economy, how to steal accounts and strip them and then use them for spam etc etc.  There is nothing nice and cute about it any more.  A significant part of MMO companies budgets are being used to find ways to combat this,  I would much rather they be making new content with that cash.

So through the years I have turned from someone who saw nothing wrong with RMT, to a major opponant.

Somehow they decided to test out the Ban messages on my server (phoenix throne) not sure if the rest of the servers are getting the global messages yet but they are quite amusing!

Huh? Ballsy of you to admit this. May I ask why in the fuck would you support such nonesense? Are you a fan of cheating? Do you have stock in some cheeseball Asian MMO company?

People who engage in RMT = fucking worthless, cheating scum. They don't deserve to be playing games with other people. Earn your shit in the game, or go play single player games.

Maybe he is on the other spectrum of the RMT business.

    The selling part.

Also, RMT doesn't only cover the questionable buying and selling of gold in western mmos but also the so called item markets most asian mmos use.

I've said pretty much the same thing in another MMO board regarding gold sellers / spammers.

I too agree that no company has the balls to do that.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Aside from the account hacking side of things which is completely unethical, I am fine with RMT.

Why? Because these games are too much like work. So much so, people are willing to pay more just to skip the boring parts of the game (like grinding for cash). People don't pay for level 50 Halo 3 accounts or for 10th prestige Call of Duty accounts. Why? Because even if it is a grind to get those, the games are fun to play even if you don't have those shiny useless titles.

Fix the mechanics, make the game fun all of the time and do away with silly grinds, and the RMT won't exist because there won't be any need to pay people to play the game for you.

I gotta tell you, today was the first day I ever encountered gold spammers, and I encountered 2 of them spammin tells at me about gold and PLing.  I'd get messages every 30 seconds.... soI reported them for harrassment.  I got them pretty consistently still for about another half hour before they stopped.  I tried a return tell and they were logged off, both of them.

Were they banned?  I don't know for sure... but reporting them got them off my back for awhile.. unless this was just some crazy coincidence.

OH and this must be the first time I've logged into these forums since I've started playing the game...  I didn't think when I first started I'd be a big fan, but I'm really into it.  Awesome game.

  • Yeah and cockroaches days are numbered because of exterminators.

Mythic needs to make the ignore function more user friendly and quicker.  They also need to fix the ignore function which gets broken sometimes.  Otherwise the next one that spams me ten times in a row and all ignore does is tell me they are on or off my list and do nothing, I will track them down, fly to where they live and give them the most viscous beating of their entire lives.

As someone already mentioned, the gold sellers/bot'ers haven't even got warmed up yet an this is only a week into release, come back in 6-12 months time and lets see where Mythics tactics have got them. I have mentioned in another thread on another forum that all these strong arm tactics do is force the sellers and bot'ers to get smarter, faster and that will lead to Mythic having to dedicate more and more resource to tackling the problem. Unfortunately this can only be to the detriment of the game players themselves as more and more resource is directed at this direct action and less and less people take notice of the background noise that is the banned warnings.

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
