As far as i know fellowship has been abandoned and wont be implemented. Standard is as you would think, a standard guild like in most mmorpgs. As for family im not sure.
Yeah, fellowships have been tossed, as far as I know.
As far as the difference between standard and family, I can offer an overview (and you can also check out stuff like the quality 5-part writeup about the game in general that Kunou did on this site).
Standard guilds are the more competitive power structures in EQ2 society, vying for prestige in their home cities. Guild members can be designated as patrons (apparently up to 32 or so is an optimal number) which means they can go on special quests for the city to earn prestige for their guild, which can go to maintain guild property, earn special titles, gain access to more prestigious non-instanced guildhalls, etc. The other type of guildmember is known as a follower, and cannnot earn prestige for the guild, but can still do so for themselves (which can be used to purchase cool things like prestige mounts if your guild is influential enough to provide you with the option, something like that).
Families are not part of the prestige social structure, and are not competing with anyone, they are just groupings of players indicated by a shared surname chosen by whoever leads/starts the Family. This can also be used to link characters who are related via their backstories, get married, or just want to be connected in some way. It is possible to be a member of both a Family and a Guild, since the two types of organization are not in competition. I'm assuming they have their own Family chat channel they can keep in touch on, similar to a guild chat channel.
That's it in a nutshell, I'm sure you can get more details by reading up on the fansite info related to this topic.
