Mythic Entertainment has announced that half a million players have joined the armies of Order and Destruction since Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning launched last week.
The Armies have assembled and the Worldwide WAAAGH! is Underway! Mythic Entertainment, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) studio, today announced that in the first week since launch over 500,000 new players have registered for fantasy MMORPG, Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning™ (WAR), in North America, Europe and the Oceanic territories. EA’s most highly pre-ordered PC title, WAR has now become the fastest-selling new MMO of all time.
“In just one week we have a half a million people playing WAR online, and the ranks of Order and Destruction are growing at a record-breaking pace for a new MMORPG,” said Mark Jacobs, co-founder and general manager of Mythic Entertainment. “We spent years working to provide players with the most stable, epic, and polished online world we could, but it is the players that have truly brought the Age of Reckoning to life.”

That's a nice achievement and grats to Mythic. However it doesn't make much sense to me, how come everyone is complaining that there have been too many servers empty spreading the player base thin? It's a big issue for RVR.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
Good to see some numbers. Hopefully they'll release some one month down the line.
And grats Mythic!
I think what's "spread thin" is players within a server. Since everyone is leveling up at a different pace, that can cause the player base to spread itself out a bit thin, especially if you're leveling up too fast or two slow compared to the others on your server.
Great for Mythic that they've gotten numbers they're happy with. Let's hope they stay that way, and that EA are equally happy with those numbers. :-)
Of course, the "actually playing" number would be about 4000 less than that 500k for sure.
Been a very good launch for them. I have seen very few complaints and those have been minor. Good to see more competition in the marketplace.
Oh so close to my guess of 400K based on beta numbers
Now if only my server would fill out, been at LOW/LOW all week during prime
Very happy to see they are off to a good start. I am playing and enjoying the game quite a bit. But let's face it though, this number means very litte until after the first month is over.
I think the numbers are lower because many were burned with the AOC fiasco... so many players are doing the 'wait and see'. The game is fantastic, and I would suggest everyone try it to level 11 at least. you will get a good feel for the class and will feel strong in RVR battles and Scenarios.
Perhaps Mythic put up too many servers in the US at the launch? In EU I feel it's more a question of servers beeing over full, but GOA has put up new servers that has been cloned from the most over populated ones to spread players around a bit. I haven't seen the results of this yet, but in a couple of weeks I think things will even out, it usually does.
Playing: Xbox360.
Played: NC, WoW, EvE, WAR, LOTRO.
Waiting: Dust 514, SW:TOR, Infinity:TQFE, et al.
I think some of the perception that the servers are empty could be because people are on servers where the majority of people on the server are on at other times. For example, I'm on a North American server and during prime hours here in the US the server almost alway has a wait queue to get on but if I look at the Oceanic servers during that time they are all Low/Low. But late at night the Oceanic servers are all High or have wait queues and the North American servers are Low and Medium. I think some people are thinking their servers are empty because they might be like in the US and on an Oceanic server so it is empty during US prime hours. Just a guess though from what I've seen.
Congrats Mythic! I don't even think WoW had half a million players in the first week. Here's hoping that WoW is not an exception and that other games will see subscribers in the millions as well.
well they can minus me from those numbers, the combat system blows. I wont even continue my one month.

Check out some of the mmo's I have played:

PC STATS:
- Q9550
- Evga GTX 280 SSC x2 (SLI)
- 8GB DDR3
- Nforce 790i Ultra
Hmm Earth years or Mercury years?
Still it's about what I've expected they would haul in. Some people in my WoW guild also play it, but seeing WoW has become more casual they can afford playing both. I usally wait 6 to 10 months for such new mmo's, unless it's something I beta test.
Bottom line..
W: That was wonderful!
S: Bravo!
W: I loved it!
S: That was great!
W: Well, it was pretty good.
S: Well, It wasn't bad.
W: There were parts that weren't pretty good, though.
S: It could've been a lot better.
W: I didn't really like it.
S: It was pretty terrible.
W: It was bad.
S: It was awful!
S & W: Terrible! Eh, boo!
You know when you play too much MMO's when your partners pants have become a rare drop.
I have a level 21 witchelf on Vortex, a few of my guildies are around the same level, I'm just starting tier 3.
I have 2 alts that I will level to ten, just in case we get newbies in guild that need help getting through the earlier zones, but for now they are crafters.
Cend
Warhammer rightfully deserves these numbers, and more. It's competition, of course, to WoW and its ilk. But it does different things and it does better things. WoW is hardly casual.

too much pve grind for gear at low levels and too little world pvp. wars pvp is in scenarios or the box they call rvr but it is not really world pvp as all the world outside of the rvr zones can not be captured and is barely affected by the rvr zones (gee lost the rvr objectives i get no more discounts from the vendor ) just not world pvp it is zoned pvp not much better then bliizard offered with epl towers and we see how long people liked that. wouyld like to see end game but just cannot bring myself to grind pq's for gear or go kill 6 boars and return to gork in this settlement if i wanted pve i would still play WOW much better pve there just not a pve person guess i give up on mmo's for a while
Good for you.

Even then, it means very little. There are people who are still buying the game because it's new and haven't heard anything about it, or people who were so excited they bought 3-month passes and then quit. Personally I think we'll see a big drop after the first month, and a steady stream of cancellations after that.
Besides, didn't AoC make claim to something like 800,000 within the first month? Look where they are now.
AoC just plain failed to deliver. WAR at least has stuff to do.
Last post 'ere, just very bored.

There are many aspects of the game that keep it interesting, fun, and kinda addictive. I've played WOW, LOTRO, and AoC, but this was the best (by far). The gameplay is very fun and the fact that it always has RvR mini battles to join. I'm sure there are larger scale battles with seiges and stuff, but I haven't gotten there yet. Also the graphics may not be better than AoC, but are definitly more enjoyable and detailed than wow. Plus, the artistic aspects of the environments, like the style of trees and such, is much better than the others. Then there is the great gameplay in addition to leveling up, there are many options for where you would like to choose from, including points from RvR, public quests, regular quests and fights.
I think they will further increase their number of active players. Although it didn't really kill WoW, I hope WoW someday loses its spot at the top for number of players. I believe this game is definitely better than AoC, Lotro, and wow.
Its nice to see high sales like this, but we all know with MMOs its a wait and see. in a month WAR could be up to 1million, and then steady out back down at 300k 2 more months later, we just don't know yet.
just hit 20 and am moving to tier 3 now, would be higher but my new job is shift work and i've been way too busy. we'll see how I do on my weekend.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
i know what you mean... i don't really even notice the bonuses from the rvr zones affecting my play.
it'd be nice to know when/where to to go which servers. i've got toons leveling on 8 different servers (including an oceanic one), just to try to have somewhere to play where i can find people with which to do scenarios. i've pretty much given up on people for rvr objectives... maybe t4 will be more rvr-happy?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
i dont understand you people complaining about Populations......play on a different server then.......i play on Red Eye Mountain....always people on scenarios always going and open RvR always a siege or two..worst wait time i had this week was 8 minutes.....
if you play on a low pop server...you are going to have a smaller population.....not rocket science..or a religion...it is easy to figure out
um, yeah, real "helpful" comments there. thanks. grats? gbtw?
