I am not gonna fall for some BS hype again. I will not buy this or anyother MMOs other than a Blizzard product until months after launch After the huge failures that were vanguard, Conan and Warhammer. I do hope Darfall is good but I will not beexcited until it has come out and has been a success.
Warhammer just isn't a good game, it's more than playable though. AoC I cannot say the same for. And for today's consumers that expect everything to be perfect and polished upon release - good for you. That's your call, but games only become polished if people play them and give them money. If the game is playable and the concept is what you want from an MMO pay for it even if it's not that great yet. If it's not, don't.
I almost always pre-order mainstream MMOs, I rarely subscribe after the free month for 3-6 months more. SB I did, and I'll probably do it for darkfall, pay to test. And make no mistake your precious WoW was a pile of shit the first few months too.

So, you just called one of the best MMORPG starts in history a failure (Warhammer). I hate to see what you think when this pile shit comes out. Might as well go with World of Warcraft being a complete failure, oh wait; you're a World of Warcraft fan. Sorry, but you aren't considered a Blizzard fan when all you did was purchase WoW and masterbated to the instruction manual in the bathroom. mmmkay?
I hate R-Tards.
It is wrong to say Warhammer is a failure, it was pretty much feature complete when released ofcourse there are still problems, bugs etc but no company is perfect so i agree with you that that poster is wrong. To say though that Darkfall is going to be a pile of shit is just complete speculation and utterly ignorant when you look at the facts. The fact is that yes the game could possible fail but there is also a very good chance that, given what the company is trying to achieve, it could be an extremely good game.
Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...
As a not real big Darfkall fan but someone gaining interest i can tell you something about the community of Darkfall.
It is a bunch of people who on a daily basis get told that the game they want to play is an epic fail and vaporware.
They constantly get people coming onto the forum for the game they want to play saying that nobody wants a sandbox game, and nobody wants a skill based game, and no boday wants a hardcore PVP based game, etc etc etc.
They come on with ideas of how Darkfall should be more like this game, or that game, and dont care that there are actually people out there that are hoping for a game that isnt just like WoW or LoTRs or whatever flavor of the month game tha just came out.
I dont know if i will play Darkfall or not as im not a big pure PVP fan but i really hope that the Darkfall fans get the game they want and it doesnt turn out to be just another clone like most everyone else wants. And i can understand how the Darkfall fanbase can be a bit defensive and ticked off.

Nice post safwd. Pretty much sums up the feelings of a lot of DF fans.

Yeah good post safwd, the reason i made this post is partly because of the fact there are alot of people who are misguided on the game. Im hoping and i gather from following darkfall for quite a long time that the game isnt just about the pvp, even though it is obviously a big part of the game, the ammount of pve aspects in the game suffice enough for someone who dosnt perticularly want to pvp, to enjoy the game. We will just have to wait till more information is available but this is what i gather about the game so far.

Keep preaching the word but sadly you are not going to get many people to give it a real look.
Far to many are completely happy with the stagnant genre that MMOs have become.
There are still some of us that remember the good old days when a successful game had a few hundred thousand subs and you could have games like EQ, UO , AC and DAOC that were all popular but were all a bit different. Back then every game didnt have to cater to the masses and you could actually have some diversity in the genre.
I really hope that Darkfall is a success so developers see that you dont have to make a game just like WoW to have a loyal player base. Then maybe people will start making games that they actually want to play and not just ones that will make them alot of money out the door.
Well its the difference between making lots of money or making a game specifically for the gaming community to enjoy. I think that Aventurine think that Darkfall is a game that will get enough subscribers to be a success story but its also a game with features that alot of people will enjoy. Aventurine are definatly pretty strict when it comes to what they want in the game and the game is based on principles from older games such as UO.
There was a recent article posted on these forums from the developer and they stress that the game isnt conforming to the design of most commercial mmorpg's such as WoW and is specifically trying to keep what they enjoyed from the older mmorpg's while adding some extra elements to enhance the fun factor.

I hope that your right because hearing those things about Darkfall is why i am here now. I cant make myself play the new style games anymore and i cant go back to EQ again (I tried and failed) so im hoping for a new game with that old game feel.
I tryed EQ again and UO again aswell but i couldnt stick to them properly, i still play UO now and then though. Darkfall should in theory have the old game and the new game feel but the new game shouldnt be tedious and unoriginal like alot of mmorpg's out now, there are quite a few innovative mmorpg's in development though but Darkfall is the one that tingles my ornate skepticism.

As i see it, no there wont be different ruleset servers, this would sort of break a hole in what the whole universe is about when considering factions etc. The game is made to be very player driven from the economy to the polotics of city's and landscape ownership. Yes there will be FFA pvp but there are also factional hits if you decide to just murder anyone, so you gain a little but you also lose some aswell. There are consequences, the concept allows for people to be free to kill and do what they want but also there are benefits to not just destroying anyone you come in contact with and also certain races have different reputation with each other.

I love Faction and think that that is something that has been truely missing from newer games. WoW has it but it is only 2 sides so not very exciting.
Though i dont have a ton of experience with PVP i like the idea of PVP with a purpose.
My race hates your race so if i see you i can kill you anytime, anywhere. This makes sense to me and i think that would be a very fun way to play.
A level 20 sitting outside town killing newbies as they run out doesnt sound all that fun to me. I got my share of that in Lineage 2.
PVP should be in game and it should be a challenge, i.e. risk / reward. There is no risk in a character who has been playing for awhile and has gotten some excellent skills (notice i didnt say level this time) attacking a guy who started playing a day or two ago and is far weaker then them. No risk should get you no reward.
But again, if it is FFA all day then cool, perhaps i will play and perhaps not.
I'm wondering if for example a bunch of misfits decided to pk their own faction and end up k.o.s by the city guards and general populous. Could such a group thrive as a bandit type organisation? (Potential for some real rp for once, maybe?).
Just kinda making a point really, for this sort of game an organised team of players using vent/teamspeak could wreak havoc and maybe form an entire faction of sorts. This is my take on ffa, the game already has 3 factions, with some semi-alliances, the developers say you can kill your own faction members but at heavy cost.
I'm just wondering how large the game world would need to be to allow such groups to effectively carry out hit and run attacks on various "civillized outposts" and also be able to run to ground, when the big guilds decide its payback time.

I dont see why not, considering this is a skill based system if you have a really good team i dont see why you could not get a reputation for yourselves atleast, as for attacks on outposts, if your talking siege theres no way of knowing how costly it is or if it would be effective to use as a small group but im sure you could attack a settlement and do some damage, kill guards and who knows, if some siege is reletively cheap maybe destroy building.... depends on the defenses if it was a new city without much defense i dont see why you could not do a bit of damage.
Still this is pretty much pure speculation but from what i gather something like this in theory should be a possibility.

I guess something similar could happen in DF the first weeks may be few months. After that i believe the consequences, guilds and so will play its role and like in L2 (at least in my server) things will get more calm around starting areas.
Really the thread shiould be called "Hype Hype Hype Hype"
Oh Nosss! Its Df I'm sooo scared!!
Please get over yourself its game, and a game no one has even played. So lay off if I don't go along with the "OMGDFISTHE GREATESTFUCKINGTHINGEVERINTHE UNIVERSE!!!" Fanboism. You got facts i'll be happy to read them but the "Its the greatest! Its the greatest! Anyone that doesn't believe that this game is the greatest is soo scared!" crap you all spew is really getting old.
All your doing is trolling, and trolling really badly at that. Go back to your hole.

This was a simple quote about FFA PVP scaring people away from the game, which it does. It was no love fest as you seemed to make it.
Perhaps you should put down the red bull and back away from the keyboard for awhile, you seem to be very excited.

Carebear question for you, and again i in no way want to change what the devs are planning for Darkfall.
Will there be different ruleset servers? As i said before i am not a huge PVP fan and i have not had much experience with it.
FFA PVP is a bit of a turn off for me so i was wondering if there are different rule sets like Race war or similar.
If not then i may have to give FFA a try because this seems to be the only game i can find that reminds me even a little of the old days.
As i see it, no there wont be different ruleset servers, this would sort of break a hole in what the whole universe is about when considering factions etc. The game is made to be very player driven from the economy to the polotics of city's and landscape ownership.
