Yes I added this to some of my topics before, as it was just one of my few issues. But I have to add it as a headline because, it is everyones problem. It's the underlying problem for most bitching on this forum. And the only REAL complaint I have.
I see topic after topic such as:
Is the chat broke ?
How come no one uses chat, is it the community or Warhammers fault ?
Here is why RvR fails !
I know EXACTLY why no one communicates. This is the first MMO that I know of ( played most all of them ) that you need leadership for everything but solo PvE quest. It is close to impossible to expect someone to take charge with typing chat !!!! or people to bother following type chat leaders. I know what many would say. Type chat works in other games, but PQ's Scenarios and even jump in RvR is too fast for anyone to randomly lead. I belong to the largest guild on my server and we use Ventrillo, BUT 80% the average guild member is doing things on their own, finding at random groups.
Warhammer is a good game with lots of content, has an end game ( not there yet, but I'm sure it does ), few to no bugs.
If I ever quit Warhammer it will be cause I'm sick of this style of MMO or no voice chat. It I quit I will not start hate topics and I have to admit i've done it, It has only one flaw !
We need VOICE CHAT AND NOW !!!!

You fail, problem is because Guild only use Team Speak or similar they cannot be bothered to use the normal chat.
So the problem is the opposit, people should use less Voice chat and use the bloody text chat.
Voice chat is essential when you are raiding and doing sieges, but now people use it even for normal chit chat, and don t feel the need to comunicate with people outside their guild through the old and trusted text chat.
The wide avaiability of voice softwares is ruining the MMORPG immersion and sense of comunity, and WAR is a classic example.
Sorry the OP is right: I haven't played WAR but I can tell you right now that inbuilt Voice for any type ofplayer versus player combat.
It just reduces complications, and CHAT text is just too slow.
Argue as you will but voice chat, specifically inbuilt supported voice chat is a must in this age of gaming.

you do realize, that it's possible to include voice chat in the mmo's client... right?
off the top of my head - eve online. but i'm pretty sure there's a couple of others out there that do it as well.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
No in-game voice chat for me thanks.
Awful idea and I'm glad they decided against it.
OP:
One big NO!
If you add voice chat to this game it will be like XBOX 360.
You all know what that means right?
If you want to talk during a scenario, first get a grip, then a guild, then ventrilo or team speak. Now stop complaining over no voice chat in game. I do really not want to listen to 12 year olds scream on top of their lungs or people farting in the mic

built in voice chat is lame.... look at D&D online as an example.
My guild uses Vent and it is CHEEP to get a vent server.
the reason most people are not typeing in game is there are many guilds that know what the hell they are doing and already use voice.
why do you need an ingame voice chat, when you can use Vent, Ts, Skype ??
Because it's more convenient than having to download/install/setup some crappy 3rd party program.
LOTRO uses in-game voice chat for raids (see monster play) and it works a charm.
War should have in-game voice for warbands.
I don't like voice chat so much. They just make me anxious.
This is the best signature ever. Well, it is really up to you to decide. :x
Hrmm sorry but that would get really annoying chatting in vent with guildies and have people in warbands and scenarios screaming and being childish.. sure add it.. i would just turn it off.
Yea because it's SOOOOO annoying and SOOOO time consuming ...

Ok, I commented here to point out that a player versus player enviroment where you won't have immediate access to a 3rd party voice program will work as well as one with inbuilt.(Hello your not gonna be doing RVR with your guild every time you do RVR, hell I bet 90% of it will be random people from your race/alliance that you joined in a rvr scenario on the fly) None of them are going to throw out their TS/Vent address + pw/etc Why would they? They are only ever going to see you that time if they are lucky. This is where the built in client works and exceedingly well.
I'll put in my major experience - I'm your eve-online player (don't fling you poo at me, I play it so what) And we have come up with a major problem within my coalition - which resides over Voice Communications. Vent is in the opinion of most of the players a better 3rd party for sound, but not everyone has the information for the 5 major alliance vent thats within the coalition, TS has larger number capabilities for a much cheaper price but again this isnt small groups of 15-20 this is over 2000 Accounts (you can't get rl people number on this) within the coalition. The ONLY effective voice communication that ALL members of the coalition can get a hold of and fast and have no joining issues is to join the GANG (party for most other MMO's) inbuilt voice channel. no passwords, no screwing round with 3rd party clients. It works, its there, it is FREE and it reduces mucking around by a fwnomanol amount.
If you keep flogging that yeah Vent or TS or even Skype (what you can have max 9 people on skype "conference" or did they finally increase that?) where your going to have to setup the address and details out of game. time consuming and does not always work (a % will always have issues) is better then ingame, maybe MAYBE if you never do anything with those not in your guild. But otherwise inbuilt voice communications will make life easier - but the basic restrictions should apply.
No World, No automatic voice join, you can block/mute anyone that spams, it joins by channel/party/group only.

I have voice chat now.
I have a vent server that myself and several friends use, and we maintane for the WoW guild we left behind.
The guild I was in also had Teamspeak so I could go on there and chat with them.
BTW. TS took less then 3 minutes do DL, instal, and use. I didn't have to do anything other then bind my push to talk button.
well I guess no one likes voice chat, so I guess you guys like RvR free for alls and no leadership outside guilds.
I think it sounds like a great idea but people will abuse it. I rather have a team speak or vent that is managed. Plus its just weird to hear voices coming from the game itself.
Ditto.
I hate voice chat. Get's on my nerves more than anything ever put into gaming. Bleh!
===============================
use vent. I am too also on one of the largest guilds of my server and we have no need to ever get random groups unless its just a few in a area. We use text hat when it isnt all guild but we can get all guild most of the time.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

Vent is nice in guilds but not necessary for a game. It is a nice bonus. I never used any voice chat until warcraft and I lived through UO,AC,GW,CoH,EQ,DAoC and others without it for years. Voice chat is like cell phones they are nice to have but not really needed.
Yeah, WoW added voice chat after not having it for 3+ years....and we all know how THAT turned out.
Epic fail to OP.
Well, I have to agree with the OP. In this day and age of modern gaming voice chat is the best way to communicate. Games like SWG, Lotro, D&D etc. all have in game voice chat now. The option is simple people who like to use it have an option to turn it on. People who hate it have the option to turn it off.
The problem with AoC was the barrens chat that went on in game. The problem with WAR's chat is no one chats period. If mmo games added in game voice chat TS and the rest would likely go out of business. The problem with TS is that you have to have a IP and password which restricts casaul un guilded gamers from joining in.
Did people even use it in WoW? Ventrilo is 100x better than any ingame.
I'd rather stab my own eyes out then burn my ears off then listen to random X player bitch about something. I don't even bother with Guild Team Speak unless we're doing something big and need to coordinate. I talk to people that join the public groups / warbands that I open up and people seem more than able to coordinate without a whole lot of talking during PQ's. For Scenarios thats a whole nothe rproblem since people have the WoW mentality "woo lets get highest DPS bs" instead of concentrating on the objective...or worse the whiners that complain about not knowing what to do in the Scenario when the instructions are right there when you hit the button to join the queue.
The biggest bitchers over community are the people too lazy to try anything.
Sorry guys, LotRO spoiled me, somewhat to my surprise. Lack of built-in voice chat is a game breaker for me. You can avoid most of the problems cited with appropriate filters and by only using it for grouping. You can use vent/teamspeak (I have them both installed and am familiar with both) in a guild-oriented situation. But for casual play (read: pug) there's no substitute for built-in voice chat.
I played DAoC for years as part of a large guild and valued TS but for the type of low-level pvp i'm seeing well it's just a big clusterfuck with no skills, no leadership, no tactics, no strategy. Maybe if I find a reasonably competent and organized guild i'll change my mind. Right now though I find it extremely difficult to break away from what's occupied my attention for the last year and a half, and that's LotRO. With voice chat.
QFT
No thanks. I don't want to listen to "that guy" in scenarios. Bad enough I have to read his crap.
