Casual Friendly?

Hello fellow MMoRPG Forums members,

So I have to ask the inevitable question here...is this game casual friendly? I swore off many MMO's because of the time sink they turned out to be. I just want to be able to jump on for an hour maybe kill some people in pvp and feel like I've accomplished something. Does pvp help you level or is restricted to killing rats and whatnot.

I have been unable to keep up with this game due to grad school so I appreciate everyones responce in advance.

Thanks

As you have stated no MMO is ever completely casual friendly due to their nature.  With that said you can in fact log in, que up for a battleground or run to the RVR part of the zone you're standing in and fight it out for XP, PVP-XP (Renown Points they call it), and even drops!

This is one of the more casual friendly games out there and I have played a lot of MMOs.  Now in the battlegrounds you could run into a few players in great gear but I'm finding acquiring "good" gear isnt that difficult either.  Renown gear is solid as is Public Quest reward gear.

Anyway I'm having a blast in this game and look forward to seeing you online.

    I'll put it this way:

I originally rolled with a good guild and friends of mine on Skull Throne, had a blast. Got tired of the ST server queues, hit up Averheim (which has pretty full populations, and minimal queue times in prime time). I'm having just as much fun guild less.

Scenarios you can queue up anywhere regardless of what you're doing. PQ events I've managed to run into and there's usually always an open group around. Believe it or not, the open groups aren't as wank pug as you may think. I've had a great time and have met a lot of good folk just running in Open Groups, and when the big RvR raids hit there's usually a shout out on /Chan Order for any peeps who want to tag.

Mind you this experience may be unique to the Order side on Averheim, and experiences will vary across different servers/populations/factions etc.

I think a casual player will always have something fun to do and will always be able to contribute to an open group here. The way it scales your levels once you hit PvP makes a big difference: I was in tier 2 at level 11, had my stats balanced to 18 and was easily going toe to toe with level 20's.

If you roll on Averheim, give Antonious or Killroi a hollar.

Most casual friendly PvP game I've ever played.

You do NOT need to hunt for gear, you do NOT need a lot of gold to buy your gear.  You can level via pvp as well as buy gear (and killing players gives you money).  You can hop in, queue up, spend an hour and do a little pvp (depends on how big your server is, sometimes you can hae 4 matches in the hour time)

Yes, WAR is just about making everything user friendly... except for the hours demanded to be any good.

So put plainly WAR is a LOT of hours of dumbed-down user-friendly playing

Pretty much.  It's the ultimate casual-friendly MMO, much more even that WoW.

Everything is easy, quick, & simple.  Of course, that also means non-challenging, trivial, and shallow.

    It looks pretty, though.

MMO's by nature are time sinks. However, I feel you can log into this game for an hour and still feel like you got something done. Like others have said, definently more casual friendly than most MMO's.

Eh I'll say! Pretty gfx are the key-element! Without "prettiness" there wouldn't be "affection" out of the player that makes him relish controlling his damn character... warm, pleasant, clinically studied palette of colors to aid relax and enjoyment.

WAR is a nice bowl of steaming water under your feet and a mosquito bite to scratch.

And you can pretty much throw your brains away.

This is mass market, gentlemen, We're all slaves of its rules.

OFC i disagree with those who say that the WHOLE genre MMO is sposed to be like it... MMo's can be compelling, engaging, and no time-sink, the only GRIND you would hear is just your brain usage.

Yes the game is very casual friendly :)

As for the dumbed down thing.. Well its a money marketing endevor.. created for the massess.. The more people able/willing to buy/play the more money they make.. Hence making it a complex difficult mindbending excursion.. Well you get the point there..

But thats entirly off topic.. :)

Its a fun and relaxing game that you can play for a couple hours to unwind.. If you want a challenge... Go play Eve.. :P

  • It is on a high population server.

On the lower ones not really as scenarios are unreilable if they exist at all and doing a PQ will take a helpful guild or serious recruiting.  It isn't that game is not casual friendly but youcan't expect to login in for 30 minutes and do whatever you like.  You could grind quests but that is all.

On Skull thron I can log in and do 2 scenario in 30 minutes very casually (without Qs).

Basically your options become limited on the lower pop servers and a burden gets places on a number of things that require population or through put.

What i REALLY fail to understand, tho, is, if you want to have a good old chill out then why not play some plain battlefield type/no monthly fee game?

There's Counterstrike, quake wars and what else... why play WAR if you wanna relax for a couple of hours after work? Would you really waste 15 bucks for a game you're gonna play for nomore than 10 hours a week?

Not really true.  People assume that because most quests are brief and that scenario are well the typical match play that has existed for going on 15 years that everything else is that way.

RvR is not that way.  Especially the keep battles.  There are people who think that.  But that is because they zerg like mindless dumbasses and then assume everyone is as dumb as they are.

Have fun ggetting oil poured on you!

You fail to understand because you are laboring under the false assumption that is all RvR is.  It is a meme that is starting to develop on these boards.  But it is wrong.  Actually it is a very good way to identify people who never played or just plain suck.

Imo, this game is casual friendly.

RvR (the PvP implementation) helps you to lvl up, yes.

And RvR will allow you to get gear which is as good as the one you will get in PvE.  So... you can only RvR, only PvE or a mix.

You wont need to raid for 8 hours just for the chances of getting some uber gear, without which you wont be able to compete.

Hardcore players will have more chances to defeat you, as in any game.  This will happen for several reasons.  For example, more you play your class, more you will know it.  But still the casual player can compete.

Of course, this is all my opinion and you will have to see it for yourself to decide.

hehe I agree.  I found that oil is a good tool to make people learn what RvR is.  LOL.   Thanks for the laughs and thanks for letting my mind remember a lot of things of DAoC ;)

In time, people will learn the complexitiy of RvRing.

Hah for pity sake... oil. RvR is just waiting until your rabble has more peeps than the other rabble and then gank the crap out of 'em in a good ol' charge. Keeps are appearance and zero substance, truly it's just about ganking someone when He's out of buddies.

    Yes...

And I spend more than that to go to a movie that lasts for 2.. So why not ..

What I fail to understand is how in this day and age.. People can think that their opinion is the only one with merrit and all others are illogical?

I can agree with this to a certain extent. Strategy can have some effect, if you have some people who can actually follow directions.
