I am getting bored with PvP in WAR.
My background is in Guild Wars, which in my oppinion always has been and still is the number one PvP MMO. Best thing about GW is guild rankings. When we did GvG battles, it meant something, our rankings either went up or down. There was risk and reward, it was challenging and fun.
However in WAR I've slowly become bored with PvP. Scenarios were fun at first but now they feel just like grinding because leveling is so slow. Good Item drops (for you) are rare in scenarios and same items can usually be bought cheap at auction house. I just don't find scenarios rewarding, only grinding for xp.
Open world RvR, which a lot of people have been praising, sounds much better in theory then it actually is. Again the rewards are bad. Who cares if Order can take a keep? In a few moments Destruction will take it.. then Order.. then Destruction.. it never stops so there is no point. It's a never ending loop and all I get is some xp and a new shiny belt I don't really need.
I haven't played endgame yet but I believe the system is the same. You attack the city, get some loot, the thing restarts and the whole thing starts again like nothing happened. Sounds like grinding to me.
My main point is: Where is the reward in PvP?
I really hope there would be a guild ranking system like in GW or something like that to keep me interested. I probably won't continue my subscription after this first month. I need to go check out real life while I wait for GW2. Those of you who are staying - have fun and good luck.

well the scenario thing can probable get a litlle boring (not to me cause i like lvling lol (call me a weirdo)) but about the keep thing when proper guilds will start then there will be keep war u have to wait a litlle for people to get to know the game i dont know one or two months should do it... in the mean time go do some pq s
The rewards in PvP in WAR? Here it goes, though I think I'll be missing some.
+ Get Reknown Points from it. The more RP's, then you get Reknown Ranks. With higher Reknown Ranks, you get access to different, improved gear.
+ Most obviously XPs, at least for me. If your team has their act together, you can reap outstanding XP rewards. I like mixing up my XP gains between questing in PvE and doing marathons of PvP, especially in Scenarios. If I want a change in Scenario maps, just find the Flight NPC and change areas.
+ You can get chances for getting nice loot in PvP, even in Scenarios. For Scenarios, every now and then you get a chance to roll for an item looted from a dead enemy player. Some of those are pretty desirable equipment. At least we're not doing Corpse Looting, which I despise to no end. If you're one of those lone wolf PvPers in RvR, then if you get lucky for a chance to loot from a dead enemy player that you dispatched, then there's no need for rolling. It's all yours!
+ Gaining control of RvR regions. If your side has enough control of an area, your side will receive the following bonuses in that area: XP bonus, Influence earned bonus, Reputation gained bonus, bonus to sell / buy from Merchants. If you want those bonuses, then you better do something about it and fight for it.
+ From what I've been reading the overall objective is to get a chance at the opposing side's capital. Supposedly it unlocks the opportunity for raiding that capital with new, high level quests / missions. Stuff that you need to bring all "Da Boyz" for.
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
If Scenarios are becoming a grind for you, stop hitting the button. Scenarios are only one way, or option of play in the game.
Try some world PvP. Get a guild.

You've obviously never had the pleasure of taking a keep with your guild, have your banner put on it and defend it from anyone trying to take it. That's okay though, takes some time to reach that point.
But hey, enlighten me. In GW, you gain points, reach a rank, then lose points, only to regain them (or try to). How does this NOT seem like a grind? I mean, compared to WAR? The gameplay itself? The fact you are battling with other players? Sounds to me that all you want is a statue erected in your honor for reaching 1st place. How's that for reward, hm?
Anyhoo, if the fact that winning a scenario or skirmish isn't reward enough, what is? Epics? What?
Got game yesterday... havent start my pvp stuff yet... but so far i create one of each to see that strange mechanic in the top of the action bar lol...
so far my favorite characters to play is the goblin shaman or healer... and the dark elf ...... oh.. range dps... Sorcerer or Sorceress.. lol...
anyone my roots are also in GW
The rewards in this game are just as satisfying as Guild Wars. The PvP in this game is exactly the same as DAOC. People still religiously play DAOC to this day and have tons of fun trading keeps over and over. Age of Conan has even less rewoard for its endgame PvP.
The whole purpose of a PvP game is the challenge of facing other players. Winning the battle is the real reward. WAR just adds a lot of other junk to motivate you to win. You don't need Guild Rank in this game because if your guild kicks ass, they will own nearly half the keeps int he game and everyone on the server will be singing your praises.
Sounds like GW2 for you then. the World PvP of WAR, and structured PvP of GW1.
You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.
Its a feeble last ditch attempt, but I have to apologize. I started this post in an attempt to stay civil, and I fear that the vitriol has founds its way into my words anyhow. I'm sorry to have taken such a heavy handed approach to my reply. I truly hope that you enjoy your gaming experience on GW.

It couldn't have been that slowly, WAR's release wasn't that long ago!
I don't love the scenarios...they get to be a lil bit repetitive, but, there is kewl loot drops off of enemy players, which is very kewl, imo.
the open rvr I like. I ganked my first player!
I think the beauty of WAR is that is does a great job of MIXING pvp and pve. seemlessly. You can goto a pq area and do pq and pvp all at the same time.
Guild Wars is the best PvP, but Warhammer shares more with it than people realize.
I am not sure how you can really think destro just quickly retakes a keep from order and vice versa. Are you calling a control point a keep? Because dedicated keep defense can stymy an attacker that is twice the size. If your side is on the ball you can hold keeps. Not all the time a quick strike can be hard but meh.
However RvR leveling outside of keeps is not that fast this is true. But its good renown to take points and kill people and PvE has no renown at all. And renown is very rewarding. It gives stats, gear and up to 5 extra mastery points. Definitely important.
As for guilds that is about reputation not numbers.

And by all mean, I wasn't there to get renow gear when we had a keep... curse you bechafen!!
I can tell you very easily why there is no reward for your PvPing. There is no risk. For a real PvP MMO, there needs to be a risk, and there needs to be a reward.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
Ok I need to clarify something since my first post was insufficent.
What I mean by a reward? Well lets put it this way:
If I compete in the Olympics and my team wins gold, we will get medals. We then put those medals around our necks and walk around feeling superiour and people will respect us. Also our winning will be put on a record where people can later check who won. All this makes us feel good and makes us feel my hard work has paid off.
There is no system like this in WAR. We are all just a part of a machine called Order or Destruction. If my guild fights with great skill and take a keep, guess what? Tomorrow nobody remembers and nobody CARES. Past battles have been forgotten and there are no records that they even existed. So basically I got nothing from taking that keep.
Scenarios are just xp and renown grind. It doesn't matter that much if I win or lose. Sure I usually get more xp when we win, but not that much really. And I said usually because I've been to a scenario where Order lost, but since I had the best damage output with my Engineer, I got the most xp, even more than Destruction team members who WON. To me that is just redicilous. If my team wins 100 times in a row because of me it doesn't matter, I just level up a bit faster than some other guy. I'm never like: "Yeah, we won!". It's always: "Ok, we won. Next!" or "Ok, we lost. Next!".
To me WAR is like the movie Groundhog Day. We keep doing the same thing over and over again, waiting for that next reset and starting from beginning.
In Guild Wars when my guild wins most of the GvG we move up the ladder, we get to face tougher competition and get the respect of fellow players. This kind of system is very important for me as a hardcore PvP player. Winning is fun but I also want RECOGNITION. I want that gold medal around my neck!
That being said I do like many aspects of this game but I guess it's just not for me. I believe most people love this game but to a veteran GW player like myself this feels like a step back.
No need to apologize, you didn't hurt my feelings
I never really did pvp in guild wars didn't play that game very long. But keeps will be more important once guilds are able to own them and then their will be people defending them more. I spend 2 hours deffending a keep last night from destruction and it was the most fun ive had in WAR. RvR will only get better with time.
You rank up, you get gear, you have the satisfaction of besting another player. What are you looking for? PvP is not going to end world hunger you know. As far as the risk goes, it just does not fit in this situation. With the large number of people participating in RvR it would make the already imbalanced population even more lopsided since the underdog would be even less inclined to participate.

You wouldn't understand
Guild Wars is not a mmorpg, because it was never marketed as a mmorpg. DAOC is the best PvP.
No. Guild Wars RPG mechanics destroy other games when it comes to PvP to such a degree that the rest simply pales. A GW GvG match is capable of being far more interesting than DAOC. The fundamental mechanics of combat are just designed far better for PvP. DAOC used a PvE combat style because that is what most of these things did at the time.
I am not including WAR in this since it is quite quite obvious to the discerning eye that they made WAR with an eye on Guild Wars. The counter system is not as elaborate but its there and AP is not old-style mana it is CoX/GW style power resources, more CoX than GW.
Its easy to tell the jobbers and the ignorant. They think WAR is most like WoW and they think you zerg people and swing your weapon around randomly at people.
It is actually fairly impressive that Mythic paid enough attention. Most of these guys take the easy way out and go to the old instead of looking at the games that really have innovated on the RPG level. And its good that Mythic was smart enough to understand the old mana model is terrible for PvP. Fundamentally crippling. Anet is still the best online development house but its good that Mythic saw the fundmentals and applied them right. That is the most important thing.
Its actually rather funny to see all the people who are so unperceptive and so easily dismiss these important differences. They think Mythic is stuck in the rut when it is them. The irony is delicious.
You seem to be stuck on official records. You can be sure that when the enemy sees a large number of a certain good guilds they know what is what.
And isn't the taking of a keep and claiming it as your guild's plus being a mover and a shaker in the campaign to take the capital basically what you are talking about?
Yeah there is not ladder and the observe ffeature to watch the top 5 guilds duke it out. But you assume everyone just forgets. That is BS people are not that stupid and good guilds have enough impact that paying attention to who is there is pretty darn important.
Yeah no one pays attention to crappy guilds but so what?
the only thing that would satisfy what you want is a tournament and match play. Fine you could have that in scenario I suppose. But for RvR you can't. Maybe mythic will put in a ladder and ranking and a "pro-league type thing" I dunno. Not much reason not to. As long as they do not give gear for it.
yeah, it's boring...Warhammer is an outdated MMO that should have been released last year, the stupid delay, morons
Get yourself in a guild and do mass RvR, if you don't like PvPing in groups then WAR will not be a game for you.
Enough with this 'give me loot because I PvP'd' WoW mentallity, just because you killed someone or did a PQ doesn't justify you getting an immediate reward for that. This isn't WoW where you're guaranteed loot if you PvP for a week, if you can't handle that then WAR isn't the game for you.
If you're unguilded or in a small guild you will be missing out on the real fun of the game later on. Once most of the servers reach Rank 40 and everyone is in Tier 4 zones you will begin to see the real game unfold. You will learn to hate Guild X because their keep cannot be taken or never has. That is where WARs PvP is at, community based PvP that is not limited to a 10man scenario like other games.
Syno, we already read you saying you're not into western-style MMO's at the moment. Wouldn't you accept that yourself too and not spread your frustration all over?
I get what I need from WAR-PvP. I get same kind of adrenalin rushes I get from FPS like BF2, but with better community and a chance to alter ego.
Someone says scenarios don't get you anything. That's absolutely not true. Scenarios add to the area domination. And what's most important, you know you have smashed the other side to the smithereens. At least I can enjoy my achievements even it's not shouted to the entire world.
And when you can't stand scenarios anymore, get into group and take back a keep or just go brainless Open World RvR.

Following isn't pointed to you, Gestalt. I didn't want to say this, but it has been pointed out too many times. World of Warcraft has things that way and some other MMO has things this way. Warhammer Online has things this way and you have to learn the new way or stick to the old game. That's it, plain and simple.
