So I started off hearing about this game because my girlfriend loves the band Within Temptation. The band has alot of talent and played with a full orchestra. From that I heard they have some songs in the game, does anyone know if they actually sound good in game? Also I heard the game has gone the "Heavily Instanced" Route, is this a rumor or is it confirmed? Last Alot of people have been telling me I should not get the game because of Acclaim, Why is that?

yes within temptation made some music for that game. about instances that game is not instanced so heavily, whereas there will be some instand dungeons. and the acclaim only confuse people about free-to-play stuff. all think that game will be f2p while the truth is only first 10 lvls and zone will be accessible for free and if u enjoy it u can pay to play more
cheers
The involvement of Within Temptation with The Chronicles of Spellborn is purely promotional. There is not a single note to be heard by that band in the game. When that changes, that would be news. The music in the game is by Jesper Kyd and fits the game much better than any music by Within Temptation would fit in a game. So, I hope it will not change, but then I a not a fan.
It is one of the developers that stressed the fact that Spellborn will make use of instancing alot. I am in closed beta and I am not allowed to say anything about it, but I think the developer must have been talking about some other game.
Acclaim, I never heard of them before, but I knew about some of their games. Never played them, since I do not play f2p mmorpg's. Spellborn does not fit in their present portfolio and publishing such a game as Spellborn conflicts with their present mission statement. I think they are still learning their trade and so think many others that have a healthy mistrust against such a publisher. Seems they have blundered in the past and some expect them to do so again.

Check out Within Temptation's song called "The Howling." It was written for TCoS. I love it.
In the most bizzare twist of all time, I've actually heard of Jesper Kyd. He did the music for Hitman: Bloodmoney which was an awesome game with pretty good music. This pleases me.
These temptation guys I've never heard of. Lydon says they made a song for the game though, yet you say they didn't. I've crossed paths with Lydon a few times before and he has some wacky ideas about some subjects which we won't go into here, but he hasn't ever lied to me as far as I'm aware, so I'm tempted to believe him on this one.
Alright, tell me more about this instancing.
If "Guild Wars = 100% Instanced"
And "Asheron's Call = 0% instanced"
Then TCoS = ...what?
As for Acclaim, I said this in another thread, but their problem is that they haven't developed a game themsevles in about 10 years, since the end of the SNES era. They probably employ about 50 press release writers and no gamers, so chances are their boner with the press release claiming the game was F2P was a result of nobody at Acclaim knowing anything about the game or MMOs in general.
On the one hand this could be a good sign as it may mean that Acclaim has stayed out of the way and allowed the developers to maintain creative control of the project.
Or on the other hand, it reminds me of many similar slip-ups made by other MMO publishers... and most of those games turned out to suck. (Example: When Ubisoft released a press release with a vastly different release date for Shadowbane than what the developers had already told the community.)
So I can go either way on the Acclaim thing. Honestly, I'm just shocked that Acclaim is even still around after all these years. I think the last Acclaim game I played was a crappy Mech Warrior knock-off on the SNES.

1. Lydon and I are both correct, but you misread what I said.
2. Concerning the amount of instancing. I told already that I am bound by NDA.
3. The Acclaim you are talking about went bancrupt a few years ago and no longer exists.

The Acclaim (Acclaim Entertainment) you know went bankrupt a few years ago. The current Acclaim (Acclaim Games) is another company who bought the rights to the name and who have been trashing the good name of old Acclaim by releasing crappy f2p mmos.
Lmao, we have? The involvement of Within Temptation is more a marketing tactic. Their songs have and will continue to be used as promotional content in the form of music videos etc. For example, you'll notice in the music video for The Howling, it features in-game footage. Both sides win as 1) Within Temptation get to release a new song and 2) TCoS get to market themselves to a large fanbase and beyond.
Anyway, I find the official FAQ very helpful in answering any questions a few weeks ago.
Yeah, my bad. After I made that post I surfed around the wiki for this game and saw on the music section where it explains that the music in the game is by Jesper Kyd but that these temptation guys have some sort of bizzare business deal with the developers of TCoS... here let me just quote it for you:
spellborn.wikia.com/wiki/Within_Temptation_The_Howling
"In the end of 2005 Within Temptation started a corporation with game developer ‘The Chronicles of Spellborn’. This is the first time in history a rock band and the developers of a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game have announced such collaboration, marking a new era in the fusion of the arts of music and making games."
Started a corporation? What? This all sounds pretty weird to me.
Comeon, give us a hint about the instancing? I'm not asking for hard data here, just a rough estimate from a guy whos played what I'm going to assume is a small portion of an unfinished game.
Besides, check out all the information on that wiki. Its obvious this NDA isn't keeping much secret at this point.
The FAQ was written by the developer Lydon. And you KNOW I don't trust MMO developers. I think we talked about this before, didn't we?
The History of the Order of The Golden Shields
"More unique corporations can soon be expected."
Sounds like a bad translation to me. They probably mean cooperation.
Actually that would make sense. Somebody at this new Acclaim probably did that translation.
