Shield of protection?

How exactly does this work?I've heard way too many conttrasting informations.
a)Does it protect the monk only?
b)Does it protect the hero?
c)Does it protect the whole team?
And what exactly is it's effect?Heal after every damage?

I got a monk recently and i found out that the Protect skill is passive and automatic.. but it only works for the hero or main character... same as the shield of protection... i believed it only protects the main character.. bnecause it says there the USER.... it is just my thought... i ahvent got that skill...
