http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/85106-Riccitiello-Confirms-KOTOR-MMOG
Speaking about the upcoming Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning from Mythic as well as the new project, Riccitiello said, "We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development. And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about - in partnership with LucasArts, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry, at the point where we get closer to telling you about it." Asked directly whether he was referring to a KOTOR MMOG, he said, "Yes."
OMG
I know this is old, but...
EDIT: Okay, fine. It's really old. But I need hope. And so do you!

according to a date listed in that, that news was posted in July? And they say no dates for anything; just the planning stage? Looks like ill be getting my social security before this one is finished.
Thx for the heads up, but as much as Id like to play this, Ill wait till theres an actual box for this. I wont even discuss it. I dont wanna beta. The last years playing MMOs waiting around for breaking news and then following it, bad betas, getting let down with bad releases.. just too much to take anymore.
Wake me when its over. (the hype that is)
"TO MICHAEL!"
Oldie but goodie. =D
I have hope!
Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV
hehe Star.. Im with where your heart is.. I would LOVE to see this one work; and ill wait for it too. I dont need it next month. Push it out when its ready.
But Im not putting out expectations again this time. Im gonna wait til I SEE a box is on the shelf and actually working before I even let any adrenaline start flowing.
I hope Bioware would be the one company to show that MMO developers can be trusted again (like Blizzard) to put out a good value product that works as ADVERTISED.
Kinda weird but we wouldnt accept a half cooked sandwich from a restaurant, or a partially built house or buy a ticket on Amtrak to go from NY to FL only to have the conductor slow the train to 5mph and say "yeah, we are still working on it, please be patient."
But we accept half built MMOs routinely as a "natural" part of the process, making excuses for the developers ("its hard work. why dont YOU try make a game?"), coders and the management who watches them all the time. Very little accountabilty in the gaming market.
I swear, MMO devs are getting like Washington politicians daily. Promise you the world, but they just want your vote (dollar).
"TO MICHAEL!"
Sorry to say but this is old news from July and nothing is fully confirmed until there is an official press release. I am a Star Wars fan and nothing would make me happier than hearing that another Star War MMO was in the works. Plus theres a rumor that the name of the game might be "The Old Republic". So if that title is true, it could mean KOTOR or it could even mean The Clone Wars. Due to the fact that anything before the Empire is considered "The Old Republic". So we all have to wait and see what the official word is, when it truly becomes official from BioWare and/or LucasArts.
Edit: Sorry I didn't see your edit, but what I said still is truth.
When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!
Hey Star.Buck
Feel free to check out all the gathered information about the BioWare MMORPG by clicking the link bellow my sig - or go to the 'Unofficial Kotor Thread' to discuss the prospect of the game there and keep KOTOR MMO discussions in one place where with the other hopefuls on the site thanks!
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
As you say OP it is old news but worth it and brings hope to KotOR fans and Star Wars fans alike.
The thing i find amusing is the pleasant posts in response to this, i myself posted a link to the article on another thread and recieved nothing but flames and hate posts about it, so grats on getting good posts for responses m8. hope it stays that way.
That's part of the reason I made the Unofficial KOTOR MMO thread mate. We see a KOTOR MMO thread pop up like twice a week [two on the front page as we speak] and many of the community members don't care to be mature about it but would rather flame someone right away. So by localizing the discussion in one place, that kind of stuff should be avoided while getting people in touch with like minded folks
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
I hate to be negative...but, I have to admit that I cringe every time I picture another great IP getting hacked into little bits and crammed into an MMO box. I guess you could apply this (to an extent) to all gaming genres that take on big IPs, but MMOs have to be , by far, the biggest butcher.
On a lighter note, I do think that the KOTOR era, rather than the "classical" era, would be a MUCH better choice for an MMO. More freedom, more possibilities, and more mystery...as long as they don't paint themselves into a corner by plopping the game right in the middle of an already established piece of the time line. Actually, when I think about it, why not take the game even further back in time where theres little to no history?
I agree with every point made. It seems the MMO is the new pinnicle of gaming, so everything that has been done, must now be done as an MMO, which simply doens't work... However, if it must be done, do so by giving the players a new story/theater that is loosly related to the IP but far enough from it not to be constraining. I'm almost thinking a Star Wars meets Eve type story line. A system gets cut off from the rest of the known universe and evolves it's own new story with only hints of the old.
