Dont see how it takes that long one of the more casual players in our clan is level 16 on day 2 and only plays a few hours a day. We have two clan members sitting around level 30 after a week and some maxed out already. So if you can max out toyur level in under a month there is no way you can call that a grind fest. not to mention you find any game where people who are such low levels who actualy know how to play their toons properly. I am pissed off at warhammer right now, because they gave me faulty disks and I have to DL the client though bit torent lol so 24+ hours and still over 2 GB left, but even still everything I hear from my clan as well as 90% of most other scorces are good reviews. I think you need to give the game more of a chance.
1-2 weeks after release people complain about the game and leave like rats fleeing from a sinking ship.
I guess the 1 mill sub to WAR has finally been proved wrong, and yes Warhammer IS a niche game, if it wasn't it would have had a lot more customers.
When do we finally see the end of pretenders?
At least AoC looks now to have a small chance coming back into the fight after the doom director is gone but Warhammer online without official tech forums and such = Big trouble.
Warhammer will probably have same to twice the number of DAOC subs, since it's simply DAOC2 with warhammer IP painted on it. Had warhammer online had faster combat dynamics/pace then i am sure it would ahve been a lot more popular not to mention i myself would have bought the game. mmorpg companies should start look at what makes games good, bad combat animations/dynamics/pace does NOT make a good game! And before i forget to mention it, PERFORMANCE, don't release a game with lots of memory leak and what not of problems!
Subs will decrease greatly, when WotLK hits the market and that is a not me guessing BTW!
Somehow i'm glad to see Warhammer not even making a tiny dent in WoW's subs, it shall be the second exsample that companies should drop the whole thought of making pretenders. However their efforts have made blizzard absorb their few but good features into their own.
Next mmorpg left for the potential list is Aion, it actually building up to be doing it's job proper, since it's being polished greatly(endgame testing began in july after long cycles of 1-10-10-20 and so on phases) compared to AoC and WAR.
AoC sold 700k copies Warhammer online sold 500k copies. 1-2 weeks after release people complain about the game and leave like rats fleeing from a sinking ship.

Um, WAR sold more copies in the first week then any other MMO ever.
AoC didn't sell 700k in one week.
You're trying to mislead people or you're just illinformed.
WAR was never expected to gather more subs then WoW, that's your expectation, not the devs.
WAR is everywhere but certainly not for everyone. More and more the game seems more geared for the casual players and niche rvr crowd. The hardcores will get bored really fast unfortunately. A nice game but definitely not appealing to the large masses and many thought.
yeah my thoughts exactly, I think people who loved Frontiers in DAoC will love this game more than people who come from other games.

Can I have some please, you know, the dope you must be smoking. You type all that to say...
I didn't like it so it must be bad, DEVS suck.
You mock "pretenders" but you are one yourself. You pretend to talk for the MMO fanbase at large, as you state;

That quote is YOUR opinion and in no way fact. I do not find the combat slow or the dynamics slow. If you have indeed played this game sure lvl 1 combat is dull, as it is in WOW.
yea, i havn't heard of people hitting max lvl on this game yet, which is a breath of fresh air. What turned me off from WoW is that you can hit max lvl in two weeks, thats just sad. Seems like OP just wants this to be like WoW and hit max ASAP so he can sit in a field and wait for the other people.
Also, if anyone is familiar with warhammer, its not a nice game, just playing the fantasy roleplay (pen and paper for those who don't know) you were pretty much stopped from advancing as soon as you made your character. So if GW is making Mythic make you lvl slow, then i will be a very happy warhammer fan.

totally true.
The problem is the casual crowd is NOT "really" a niche, it's the majority of the players. I'm afraid.
And that's basically where Mythic's marketing wager is, They hope there's a LOT of casual tards out there to make 'em stinking rich.

First 500K accounts created on servers is NOT box sales (I explained that already long ago). We will see the final stats as EA will publish the revenus from Sep 18 to Sep 30.
Secondly the makers made a bet they would go for 3 million subs in two years time. One million subs after the first year. We will see.
I think the analist of last week who predicted 250-350K after 3/4 months is better placed. It's his job and wasn't excalty contradicted by EA.
WAR not for everyone. I guess it will find it's niche eventually. The pve'ers will leave the game in mass and return to whatever mmo they came from, but the pvp'ers will stay.
The brainlessness in scenarios is a curse from WoW I guess. People think they can play WAR's battlegrounds as they do WoW's but fail to realize their toons ain't solokings as they are over in WoW. That will fix itself in time as people get more used to WAR.
To be honest I think you started this game with the wrong expectations on what to expect. This is a pvp centered game with a pve afterthough, excact opposite what WoW is. Don't even expect to get the same experience in WAR as you get in WoW as they are two completely different games. Only similarities is the world it's based on(Warhammer) and the usual mmo setup stuff, as in core classes/similar hud and that they are both fantasy.
The animations blows though and the bugs are plenty. Just had a new one today. Game wont start. After a bit of research I found they shipped their dvd's with buggy code and that I needed to replace a file. WTF is up with that? Don't they test their crap before they ship it? Honestly, games are getting more and more buggy nowadays.
PVP balance sucks yes, but if you join a med or high server you avoid that problem most of the time in my experience.
The leveling speed you complain about I just don't get. What is the joy in playing a levelbased game when you start at max level from the getgo, or use one week to max your toon? Level speed is fine. It's a little too fast to be honest, but I'm used to the speed to level in Anarchy Online and that is slow WoW's speed to level on the other hand, is just retarded. WoW almost too casual now.

The problem is the casual crowd is NOT "really" a niche, it's the majority of the players. I'm afraid.
And that's basically where Mythic's marketing wager is, They hope there's a LOT of casual tards out there to make 'em stinking rich.
Out of curiosity, why does being a casual player make someone a "tard?" Are you implying that people with less time to play video games are fundamentally less intelligent than people with more time? Even when some of those people with less time have less time because they're in college, and busy applying to Ph.D. programs?
Not that it matters but i left War 2 days ago .... havent logged in in over a week. I can see some ppl will stay in War, but im gonna bet it turns out like other mmos, and a very small fan base after a year . Its not WoW, and most ppl would much rather have WoW.
The game is a horrible grindfest, after Level 10 its already stupid and dull, the quests are just alot running from place A to B then to C and and and. I couldnt get one class above Level 13 in 2 weeks, mainly because not one single class fit to me or was fun. The Grafic animations is one of the worst available today, but i got over that and kept playing. The PvP is stupid at low levels, either you are lucky and get a server with a winning site or like me you loose 95 out of 100 battles because you took the wrong site on your server, that sadly happened to all my characters on 3 serves. I am always on the looser site. (it cant be just me) Poeple are mostly retards, to stupid to heal and to stupid to teamplay. I played a Zealot for a few hours and outhealed all other healers from Level 1 already, the people are simply to stupid to understand their classes and every healer tries to Solo DPS. How hard is it to understand that your Tank needs a healer backup ? But my Main concern is PvE, its simply to slow and boring to level also i wanted some huge RvR, big battles with many many players, i wanted to play a Ranger to shoot from Walls, i wanted to play a Tank class to crush into battle, i wanted to be a firemage to burn enemies down, but i dont want to play 3-5 month just to reach Level 40 to participate. I played every single class to at least level 11, i know thats not high but i couldnt find a class to stick with until i played them all and still found no class i liked. The pet classes are broken, the Pets dont /follow , they just keep attacking never mind if in passive mode or not otherwise my Squig herder would have been a nice class, but with pets that dont work its no fun, also the 30 sec timer on the pet recast is far to long in PvP. a nice game, a nice try, but it looks like 2004 and it feels like hard work and not fun at all after a few days. Give me a L30 starter class to play PvP and i might come back, but i am not playing month to reach 40 and another few month for the next class that interests me. I think the times of DAOC are gone thats why there are only 1500 players left, nobody wants to level 1 year to max anymore. i am out and i wont let the door hit me. my stuff remains on my chars no need to ask. thnx
(no native english, no need to flame)
If your playing war for pve... then your playing the wrong game. WAR is about pvp. There is pve in it, but that is not its focus.
Now... about the pvp. Your bumping into the whole pugs suck deal. Simple solution... STOP PUGGING! Find a guild that runs nightly groups. Get into said group, and you will experience the exact opposite of what your experiencing now. This isnt a luck thing, its a co-ordination thing. You need folks working together and your just notgoing to get that often in a pug.
As for the leveling taking a long time. If your actually doing the scenarios and doing the repeatable quests with those scenarios your going to be leveling fast as hell.
My brother just recently went from 1 - 25 in 3 days while capping his Realm Rank.... so it can be done and rather easily. Just change the way your playing a bit.

It's not about time at all. I have little time to play too but i still wanna play something intense when i can.. It's just about how you wanna employ that time. Do you wanna do something intellectually gratifying or something mildly entertaining just to chill out? That's being a casual tard.
It's basically a difference in conceiving videogaming. It's either cultural discovery, spiritual exploration, or morphine for your primitive mind.

You should know by now anyone who doesn't spend all day playing video games is a "tard" Forget the Ph D. and play video games all day so you can be smart now.

.. An AOC troll..
Sorry dude, but your game failed. Bug ridden over hyped launch. Drab game play, almost 0 reroll value (how many times can you go through tortage??)
Some people are born to complain whatever you give them, so I don't really care if OP leave the game or not.On the other side the game is still young,2 weeks for Christ sake and some are complaining about using the same 3 or 4 skills.I wonder if that person complain about using the same 3 fingers in his/her hand.
If you want to play WAR like an FPS with a 1vs1 mindset, you'll get your ass whooped and bitch slapped like a w&^%*.Play the game as it was meant to be....Tactics and Warfare
Leveling is fast in WAR,the devs already said reaching R40 will be quick but it will be difficult to master .
I`m a R23 RR16 WP and happy playing with guildies and Alliance guild
In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals...
Well no the game isn't perfect. At the very least it's a pleasant distraction till something better comes along.
T1 was fun. T2 which I am currently in not so much. For example, I dislike the T2 scenario. And Order seems to always lose. Losing all the time is not fun, far from it. What it actually does is discourage you from playing.
They need to put some bad assedness into Order so people will want to play that faction. Otherwise many people will get discouraged. This may not be a concern for people who rolled Destruction and are having a blast steam rolling Order. But it will be a concern when people who play order either quit or decide to reroll destruction and there is little to no one left to play with.
Yeah, someone didn't think through faction balance enough.
This is pretty much my feelings as well.
The fun factor is certainly diminishing for me as I go up in levels (highest character is a 24 swordmaster). I was loving the game when I first played it (newness factor, etc), then it quickly started the gradual slide downwards when I saw each Tier was basically the same as the one before with simply higher numbers (stats, levels, price of things, etc). The game is a nice distraction as you said, it's certainly not horrible. However, I can see it will have no real staying power with me, and maybe be one I return to every few months to a year to see if anything has changed for the better.
WAR is everywhere but certainly not for everyone. More and more the game seems more geared for the casual players and niche rvr crowd. The hardcores will get bored really fast unfortunately. A nice game but definitely not appealing to the large masses and many thought.

Its just the teenage mentality. He thinks everyone should play video games 50+ hours a week killing the same PvE mob over and over until he gets enough points to buy that pair of boots. I'll let other form their opinions on how he has so much time to spend playing a game.
There are plenty of games that require you to have no life or future goals to be the top dog. WAR isn't one of them.

Oh, that's rich. Playing a video game is intellectually challenging for you? I just feel very sorry for you. Good day, genius.
I can see RTS game being slightly challenging, but sorry no MMORPG on earth is challenging they are all the same. Grind, kill, grind. Even the wildly over-hyped EVE.

Had to giggle at that! i love it too when video games players try to pretent they are something else haha.
But saying that i go to work as a prodcution technician in local firm. I manage the maintenance team and manage product improvments. my job is very challenging and often stressful. i do very well at various IQ tests and have been mensa recomended, while none of this makes me intellegent it does make me above average at least. But when it comes to games i am simply average, many people play games to the death and know everything there is to know about them.
Me, i am a casual player. yes i play to win whenever i am on, as i do in everything but i am still a casual and imaginative player. i would love to be put in a common sense situation with the hardcore types that think casuals are lesser beings and see what happens...hey they might even suprise me
But could i just make sure i am not misinterpreting? i am taking the word "Tard" quite offensively, it is something lesser isnt it?
Yes i hit level 17 last night and about to hit 15 renown and i have to admit that's WARs most redeeming factor, levelling has slown right down. it's great, finally devs listening to old timers like me and realising that we want a game not a quick run to max level. i find myself actually joining groups and friends again in an mmo...lol it's like something new, grouping in an mmo? unheard of, and thats not being sarcastic either. it's the first game in a long time that i feel compelled to group in. Most modern mmo's mean if you group you will level way to fast and the game will be over faster than sonic the hedgehog! finally a game where i have to put time into to max...GREAT! keep it up folks. Oh ye and for anyone looking for a Ranger class, Shadow hunters after 15 are Rangers

i got to level 13 in 7 hours. learn2play.

totally true.
The problem is the casual crowd is NOT "really" a niche, it's the majority of the players. I'm afraid.
And that's basically where Mythic's marketing wager is, They hope there's a LOT of casual tards out there to make 'em stinking rich.

Its not WoW, and most ppl would much rather have WoW.
just my opinion tho.
You sir, are in the wrong genre of games.

Awwww wont perhaps reconsider letting us have your stuff ........

Great post
