if you look at how many people are playing the game, doesn't maple story beat WoW hands down? if you look at hardcore fans, doesn't EVE beat out WoW? its hardly the best at anything. I remember 2-3 years ago lineage2 claimed to have 13million people playing. the markets in Korea and China dwarf those over here in the US or even in western Europe.
WoW is a giant in the industry, but to label any game as "best" is just silly. its a game, its about fun, i'm sure plenty of people enjoy Monopoly far more than any MMO, doesn't mean its the "best" game, just different.

WOW is a fun game, I'm not sure I would call it the best mmo, but still a blast to play. EVE is excellent as well. I think Vanguard in the state it's in now, is the best mmo imo at the moment. DF, tho I want to be great, I have a feeling it will be release to early and have a Vanguard / AOC release. But i repsect the posters opinion and agree it's a fun game, the mechanics of it were made to be simple, basic and fun. Hardcore players wanting more, look else where, but it doesn't make WOW less of a game.

No one makes you read the stuff that is posted on this site. I personally like to read the posts because I sometimes find them to be insightful, and often times, entertaining. And for the record, if I may ask, are you a WoW hater?
WoW is easy not better, Wow is more solo friendly thats why people play it.
The majority of players that play WoW never played a mmo before.
Some people say Wows graphics are better than most and some people say wows combat is the best out there.
Personally I feel Wow has a nice little art style and I did enjoy the FPS type combat in the game.
Hell its cool to strafe around a newb and own them with 2-3 macros in battlegrounds with my old Quake skills.
Does that make WoWs combat superior? no. It makes the player that can spin his character around the fastest OP.

I share the same sentiments as the origional poster. I played ac for a yr UO for 7 years, and daoc for 3 (some of this over lapped) and ive tried vanguard, aoc , war, lotro and none of them are even as close to good as wow. Lotro wasnt horrible it was actually a decent game but population killed it. War i was so pumped about and after playing the beta, and for a week fo release i got so bored i uninstalled and and canceled it already. My buddys in wotlk beta and it rocks he says so thats what im waiting for.

Terrible community ( Wow is MMO high school Ive seen F2p games with better communities)
Limited Instanced Pvp (4 bgs and a couple craptastic Arena maps after four years)
Crafted Gear is worthless at endgame level with the exception of a handful of items
Rep grinds are horrid in WoW and the gear is next to worthless at high level
Limited character customization (normally one-two good specs for each class and If you go outside the box you get laughed at and riddiculed, Ever see a melee hunter or Firestone warlock?)
Bait and Switch ( wow sucks you in with a nice little leveling game to turn into a gear grind that forces you to que up for BG's and wait on raid schedules, might as well play diablo since WoWs world is non existent at high level)
Solo gameplay that turns the majority of its players into Anti-social gimps that spread out to other MMOs, 80% of wows community might as well be bots, Look what they are doing to WAR)
so theres your 10 If I really think about it I could pull out about 20 more reasons why WoW isnt the best MMO.

I stopped playing MMOS for a while, and recently came back to try LoTRO, WAR, and AoC... After playing each of them for a long while, they still don't compare to WoW.. They are not even close to as fun, creative, and diverse... So, I'm playing Burning Crusade, and pre-ordered Lich King..WoW is king.. Can't wait for a real contender.. But I have a feeling the oly contender to WoW will be WoWII

if you look at how many people are playing the game, doesn't maple story beat WoW hands down? if you look at hardcore fans, doesn't EVE beat out WoW? its hardly the best at anything. I remember 2-3 years ago lineage2 claimed to have 13million people playing. the markets in Korea and China dwarf those over here in the US or even in western Europe.
WoW is a giant in the industry, but to label any game as "best" is just silly. its a game, its about fun, i'm sure plenty of people enjoy Monopoly far more than any MMO, doesn't mean its the "best" game, just different.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
WOW is a fun game, I'm not sure I would call it the best mmo, but still a blast to play. EVE is excellent as well. I think Vanguard in the state it's in now, is the best mmo imo at the moment. DF, tho I want to be great, I have a feeling it will be release to early and have a Vanguard / AOC release. But i repsect the posters opinion and agree it's a fun game, the mechanics of it were made to be simple, basic and fun. Hardcore players wanting more, look else where, but it doesn't make WOW less of a game.
WoW killed casuals by making Arena points required for PVP gear in WOTLK.
This is the reason I am done with this game. I loved battlegrounds.
Now I like scenarios even more
Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, you get more bang for your buck in wow over any MMO on the market.

Anyway we are discussing REAL MMO's here. Lineage 2 was brought up.
Lineage 2 was the #1 most played MMO on earth until WoW.
WoW is #1 and Lineage 2 is #2.
This isn't up for debate it's a fact. This is based off the sheer numbers of players. No MMO recently brought out has even scratched the surface of WoW. Only thing that can compare to it is Lineage and that is because Asian gaming market simply has more gamers, Lineage caters to the asian grinder style. Until NCSoft brings out another game to top Lineage 2, It will always be WoW and Lineage 2.
It doesn't matter if you do not like wow, it doesn't matter if you think it sucks, simple, shallow, and heartless.
The majority of the world is against you in this instance. The majority of MMO players play WoW as it has more subs and players than 10 MMO's on the market right now combined.
You may not like it, I may not like it, but WoW is the king of MMO's at this point in time. Regardless of anything.
You can call WoW a failure pile of shit when it drops down to 500k subs.... which is a long time if ever going to happen.
Because other than Lineage 2 no other MMO can top 500k and maintain it.

No one makes you read the stuff that is posted on this site. I personally like to read the posts because I sometimes find them to be insightful, and often times, entertaining. And for the record, if I may ask, are you a WoW hater?
WoW is easy not better, Wow is more solo friendly thats why people play it.
The majority of players that play WoW never played a mmo before.
Some people say Wows graphics are better than most and some people say wows combat is the best out there.
Personally I feel Wow has a nice little art style and I did enjoy the FPS type combat in the game.
Hell its cool to strafe around a newb and own them with 2-3 macros in battlegrounds with my old Quake skills.
Does that make WoWs combat superior? no. It makes the player that can spin his character around the fastest OP.
You wanna tell me it's the best due to Subscriptions is that all you have? I can give you atleast 10 reasons why its not even in the top five in todays mmos.
All you newbie wow players can go back to playstation and Xbox once you get tired of WoW the real mmo players will be right here and continue to play the good MMOs like we have been for 10+ years.

I share the same sentiments as the origional poster. I played ac for a yr UO for 7 years, and daoc for 3 (some of this over lapped) and ive tried vanguard, aoc , war, lotro and none of them are even as close to good as wow. Lotro wasnt horrible it was actually a decent game but population killed it. War i was so pumped about and after playing the beta, and for a week fo release i got so bored i uninstalled and and canceled it already. My buddys in wotlk beta and it rocks he says so thats what im waiting for.
First of all, lets get it out of the way that I don't play WoW. I don't like WoW. I also don't hate WoW.
Now the arguement here is that WoW is the best game in the MMO market. WoW is a very popular game. For the content it does posess, it is well done, polished and of good quality.
The numbers WoW has though...why do you suppose it has so many people subscribed? Is it really the quality of the limited amount of content it has or is it because it's a Blizzard title? Quite frankly, millions of copies of SC, WC RTS series and Diablo have been sold world wide and has made Blizzard a very popular title world wide.
Does that make WoW a good game? Yes and no.
Honestly, if you really don't have much experienece with MMOs and are a hardcore fan of WC RTS series, you'll think its a godsend.
Even if you are a WC RTS fan but have truthfully played, enjoyed and were able to successfully advance in games like UO and EvE. WoW is just flat out boring and really going backwords as far as advancing the genera.
Like I said, WoW is a well done, polished game. To me though, it lacks a good player driven community and economy. Playing WoW feels like paying monthly to play a single player game with a chatroom.
But lets cut the bullshit. WoW is not the best game. Like a previous poster said, it's not up for debate. Populairty doesn't equal quality. It's not a bad game though, especially if you're new to the genera. The only problem is, people choose it as their first and see everything else out there as a copy. Hell, I'm sure there are people out there who claim EQ1 is a rip off of WoW. Thats one of my major issues with the game itself. A new crowd of MMOers who really don't know a damn thing about MMOs and take any and every opportunity to elevate WoW through their own ignorance and curse every other game on the market.

Terrible community ( Wow is MMO high school Ive seen F2p games with better communities)
Limited Instanced Pvp (4 bgs and a couple craptastic Arena maps after four years)
Crafted Gear is worthless at endgame level with the exception of a handful of items
Rep grinds are horrid in WoW and the gear is next to worthless at high level
Limited character customization (normally one-two good specs for each class and If you go outside the box you get laughed at and riddiculed, Ever see a melee hunter or Firestone warlock?)
Bait and Switch ( wow sucks you in with a nice little leveling game to turn into a gear grind that forces you to que up for BG's and wait on raid schedules, might as well play diablo since WoWs world is non existent at high level)
Solo gameplay that turns the majority of its players into Anti-social gimps that spread out to other MMOs, 80% of wows community might as well be bots, Look what they are doing to WAR)
so theres your 10 If I really think about it I could pull out about 20 more reasons why WoW isnt the best MMO.
This is the stuff thats just off the top of my head.
Edit: the Players that play WoW don't even relize they are playing a sub standard MMO since they are new to the genre.
