TOO MANY people judging the game off Tier 1

Jeff Hickman Quote from new article on mmorpg:

“I just don’t agree with it,” he answered. “I think what you find is that, and this is perfectly understandable... I’m not calling anybody out for doing this, is that what we’re seeing is a lot of people judging the game in Tier 1 (which is again, perfectly fine, you SHOULD judge the game in tier 1), but I think everyone needs to keep in mind that that’s the first ten hours of gameplay for a game that is hundreds of thousands of hours of gameplay out there over the next couple of years. As you move up through the game, you’ll find that the mix of players starts to even out.”

I COMPLETELY AGREE. They should have stressed that tier 1 was a starting zone in all the post previews and dev diaries.

The worst part of it is that tier 1 really isn't the first 10 hours of gameplay, but just like the first 4 or 5.

I haven't seen any complaints about the game yet that apply ONLY to Tier 1 and not the other Tiers. Why play 10 more hours of the same game if you didn't like the first 10?

It took me about 10 hours to get to level 12.  But i'm taking my sweet time too.  4 to 5 sounds pretty fast.  I would be 7-9 is probably the average time.

Either way, even 10 hours isn't time enough to really judge an MMO.

well if you look at all these retarded post ike how the game is linear and haorrible small enclosed enviroments, obviously they poster is talking of tier one. i got to tier 3 and i get lost, even with the map. once you uncover most of the map it becomes easier, but i hardly call tier 3 linear. if it is linear, then it is about as linear as WOW.

Then why should we play any MMO other than Guild Wars? Why would I want to make a level 1 dwarf hunter on WoW (for example only) and hunt small animals with 1 skill instead of starting out with a max-level pvp character and jumping into instant action?

Sorry, this argument is old and just makes you look dumb.

I tend to just ignore all of the idiots raging on the game. I honestly dont care if some billy in south florida hates WAR. I just want more people to make accounts on Kragg so I can pvp more in T2 :D

shouldn't a game grab people from the beginning to the end? i hate when people say  "you need to be at this level to really experiance the game"  now how does that make any sense? you mean i should suffer through a crap beginning just to get to the fun part? so how about i don't start paying till i'm whatever high level is supposedly fun?

(not complaining about the game myself i'm actually having some fun at low level...barely hit 12 yesterday, just making an example)

Yeah I 2nd this. I was about to say the same thing. A game is spose to be good from beginning to end. When you meet a person do you not judge them by there First Impression. Thats Teir 1.

I found T1 the best part of the game frist half of T2 was ok but after that it just turned into a cc zerg fest not that much different to wow.

NO, to experience all the game, you must take all classes to 40/80 to be able to say that! :)  Games should hold you from start to finish.  In fact, if they can't hold you in T1, I say they have a real problem on their hands.  The begining should be the honeymoon period.

QFE. i hate that as well. The game should catch me at the beginning just like it catches me at the end.

True, but there are a lot of people out there that are shy and only let you know how they truly are once they get to know you.

Yes but if we judge it by first impression and tier 1 = first impression, the game is great. Tier 1 is my favorite tier so far, mid tier 2 it get a little boring imo, i find myself watching my toon and waiting for scenario more then anything. Yesterday's patch was great tho, cross scenario queue cut the wait time tenfold.

T1 in WAR is by far (in my opinion) the most engaging, epic first 11 levels EVER.

as a dark elf, around level 2-3 your first PQ is a epic dragon fight, chaos? I giant demon...you feel epic, your gear looks tight and its a slower leveling process then most, the quests are meaningful and you feel your there for purpose.

    I play all ghame

Odd, i'm the complete opposite and have many friends who are the same. The first tier was great, the 2nd tier onward we're kind of wondering if we enjoy as much. Maybe its the hype wearing off.

I have to disagree.  People that post on this forum are average users.  Above average users know better and either quit or continue to play where below average people are still trying to figure out what a browser is.

  • No he is 100% right there are many features that get expanded in t2 and t3.  From better armour, to tome unlcoks, to cosmetic customization, to mounts, to keeps, to keep with outer walls, to much larger zones, much more varied PQs.

No it is quite obvious many people have played 3 hours seen 3 PQ and then extrapolate the entire game incorrectly.

This is possibly the largest occurence of people speaking out of scholl that I have seen.  Even in AoC which had tons of hatred and people making stuff up, at least half the meme  the idiots picked up had some grain of truth.  For WAR a lot of it actually fundmanetally wrong.  Just look at bodypass' posts they are almost all 100% wrong but appear to have some merit in t1.  He actually think travel in WAR is quicker than WoW.  I mean that is just objectively false not a matter of opinion.  Try getting the the keep in Ellyrion to defend it from an attack.

Sadly there are tons of people making very bad assumption based on T1 and then there are people like bodypass only too happy to spread misinformation based on those bad assumptions.

T1 war is the best MMO early level experience i have had.  That is not really a huge thing to say.  I think almost all MMO have extremely boring first 11 levels including WoW.  I would descrie WAR t1 as pretty fun rahter than just plain boring.

But the thing is this is not about fun per se.  This is about people saying thing like all PQs are the same (which is completely wrong) or saying that combat abilities are shallow or people saying there is no customization when you do not even unlock your thiord trophy slot until level 20 or saying WAR has nothing special when in T2 yclasses start to get knockback in PvP and differnt classes knockback for different distance (only exists in CoX).

The fact is I could list 20 things people have said that are wrong purely because they did bother looking for them.  They simply assume WAR is WoW or whatever.

Edit: also realize the itemization wise it is rather hard to even find a trophy pre-20s
