I can name about 4 US newspapers and I don't even live in the US. Is this stage fright, or just not being able to name one?

To be fair, I don't really subscribe to any Newspaper or Magazine either. I'll read whatever one crosses my path, but most my news comes from the AP on the internet, or television news/Radio. With that being said, I think Palin is an airhead. If I was involved in politics or especially a Governor and Vice Presidential candidate I'd subscribe to a least a few national papers.
most politicians recieve summary documents with the most pressing news gathered from many sources, very few actually read a whole paper , they just get the articles that apply or have an impact.

Seriously, think about how hard the media would have blasted her if she said "Vogue, Sports Illustrated . . . ummmm . . The Enquirer . . . . .umm, all the important ones really".
I think she may be coming around after all. Perhaps she's learned that if you only have stupid things to say, then it's best to remain silent.
Honestly though, it was a rather pathetic question. I think her answer could have been more eloquent, however.
Does Couric think the President and Vice President wake up every morning and get their news from an uninformed media? Wake up Katie, they have advisors. George Bush may pick up the paper every morning, but it's to read the funny pages while he drops the kids off at the pool.
And, Couric, who thinks she is all knowing, failed to realize Biden was incorrect when he said FDR went on live TV to discuss the stock market crash.

The VP debate will be broadcaster live here at 3 AM but i'm so going to watch that, No comic can compete with Palin.
Who ever made this post you should look at it on a critical way. I live in Belgium and I can name some American newspapers.
Probably she didn't say the name of a newspaper because she can't just make free commercial for a newspaper... if you look at it that way it's a pretty good choice not to name a newspaper, and I think she didn't answer to the question because she was still answering on the previous quesiont.
By the way, I might talk good about Sarah Palin, but that doesn't mean I'm for McCain. I think Obama should win, I really DO.
It's obvious she chose to not answer with a specific organization because there was OBVIOUSLY a gotcha intention from the question.

Pathetic Couric was always getting hammered by O'Reilly and Fox News. She just saw her chance to take out frustration on a Republican. I've never watched her pathetic news channel since Rather's disgusting attack story on Bush's service history without a source and glad I can say I watched both CNN and Fox this year.

The NYT would like you to believe that they are THE authority on all things important. but their subscribers are going south south south. they are having to cut back every year now. but there is certainly no connection to the level of liberal reporting that goes along hand in hand with that...nooooo.
If you asked me what media I read, I'd say Drudge report. (for those that think it's a news source, think again....all he does is provide LINKS to other news sources.. "All of them" --kinda like what palin said) ...and how is that biased?
But as for NYT. 6 front page hit stories on Palin the week she was announced. NOOOO..no relationship at all to NYT failing subscriptions
NYT doesn't consider their subscribers as local, but nat'l.

why doesnt she just say that though? Instead, she bumbles around words and becomes incoherent? It makes her sound completely out of touch. If she was afraid of being affiliated with a specific news carrier, she could have said that too. People refrain from plugging markets all the time during interviews.

Just like owning 12 or 7 houses, these guys think the public are idiots and if you condone answers like that guess what that makes you?

The New York Times is for the "whole" of New York, not just New York City. I should point out that you can find copy's of the times in other parts of the county as well. Infact one of my friends who also moved out here to AZ from NY gets the Times.
And Newspaper subscribers have been dropping for YEARS now! It has nothing to do with what they put in the paper, rather it has more to do with the times we live in. Subscribers started to drop (infact one New York Paper went under) back in the 1990's. At that time you had 24 Hour Cable News Networks, CNN was the big one, MSNBC came in after along with CNBC as well, and then lastly you had Fox.
Also what has been dropping Subscribers? Well you are on it and posting your views on it right now... The Internet!
Go to Papers like the Times or other Newspaper Websites and you can read the same things they print online. There is no mess, no ink getting on your hands. Infact in the next few years your going to see other types of printed media head online. Marvel Comics is now offering a system for most of their Comics online.
Then we have Cell Phones and yes this plays a big part in all of this as well.
Right now with my Blackberry I can bring up the latest headlines from a number of papers. The Times being one of them, USA Today, Bloomberg, CNN, MSNBC. Along with those I can also get for $10 dollars a month TV Channels via my Cell Phone.
Now for someone walking around this means I have less crap to carry. Now I'm not carrying a paper that can fall apart on me or get ripped and is somewhat big. If I want the latest headlines all I have to do is pull out my Cell. Hell last Sunday I was getting real time updates on the Jets vs Cardinals. It is also safe to say that many people can also get online with their Cell Phones... Hell I can get online with my Sony PSP, my girlfriend can get online with her Nintendo DS.
I'm not going to say Printed Media is dead or even about to drop over and fall in the grave. Your going to still have people buying Printed Media like the Wall Street Journal. However more and more people are going with the latest in tech now.
Saying "Oh it's falling cuz the Times is a Liberal Paper! And no one wants to read what those dirty Liberals have to say!" is for the most part wrong.

Why you think Rather reported that piece on Bush's service history without backing it up with sources? If you don't a news organization does this go look up Obama headquarters on NBC. It should be your favorite channel after all if you're for Obama.

I have to agree that as I watched the video, it was crystal clear that Sarah Palin was purposefully not answering the question. I can only surmise that it was for a good reason. Possibly, as others have said, that she felt that it was a 'loaded question' meant to set her up. I also do not believe that she looked foolish or unintelligent. I mean, c'mon....some of you honestly believe she can't name any american newspapers or other news sources? Seriously....she can't name one? R--I--G--H--T What makes more sense....Sarah Palin cannot name one news source or Sarah Palin purposefully didn't answer the question? Use your brains people! This is common sense stuff here!
