5% of wow's players alone is plenty, thanks :)

WAR (while a great game has some issues that are starting to bother me - mainly a disjointed and separated playerbase) and other games as well.

At this point I will believe it when I see it. And just remember that, while it may be "all that" when it launches, if the game does not do well (in terms of subs), then the devs will make changes to bring in more. I do not care what they say and the promises they make, they WILL change the game if needed to bring in sub numbers to at least cover the development and maintenance costs.

What happens when one huge guild takes over the server? Won't happen - well it has happened before. I can see a huge griefer guild parking 5-10 players outisde every newbie area and constantly killing every new player in the area. Even if the design is different then you get a huge guild of max players and go to the lower levels. It will only take a few times of theis type of behavior to drive players away and there go sub numbers (and revenue too).

On the other hand if the devs do something (rules per se) to prevent this, then the playerbase who wants such an anarchistic world will freak out and complain that the devs are selling out and breaking their promises.

I believe that Darkfall is caught between this rock and that rock. I do hope that the game succeeds and I will be sure to try it and maybe there will be some safeguards to keep players around. If there isn't, players will flock away from this game faster than you can imgaine and this game will go the same route as Shadowbane and Ultima.

Oh and you say well look at old school Ultima as the fact players like this type of hardcore environment? Sure I can agree with that but let me counter with that fact that when Ultima was big, there was little to no MMO market competition. Now players have many games to choose from and it they are getting griefed in a game they think they may like, then they will go back to another game they do like. Well, the game isn't for them you say? Truly, how many times can one say that until there are no subs left and the game is going down the proverbial financial drain? That is my concern for Darkfall and until I see serious evidence that this is not a concern, I will be worried.

I can see your point when it comes to regular pve loving mmorpg players.

However Darkfall is very different from the standard mmorpg and I think it will attract players from the regular gaming population which is much larger than the mmorpg population.

A lot of people do not like sticky target, cooldown type gameplay and will not play mmorpgs because it's too slow and bores them.

Darkfall is a fps mmorpg hybrid and will probably attract people from the fps world which is much bigger than the mmorpg world.

We will see when the game is launced and starts to establish itself but I would expect a much wider player base than is normal for an mmorpg.

My question is with no health bar or level type system(which is great), How do you know your opponent is not cheating? For instance in WOW weapons looked alike so if you wielded them you know what they can do dmg wise. A skill based system was in Neocron, Basically what you wielded is what exp you gained I.E. sword melee exp, or pistol was light weapon exp. Guess what I am saying is if you know nothing of your opponent then how do you know it was a fair fight? Always a question FPS games and todays abdunce of hackers! This probably off OP topic but fanbois flock too this thread and probably get a quick answer!

WRONG wrong wrong AND WRONG!! I am sorry to say this to you or burst your bubble but mmo's has a greater number of people than FPS games.  Why? Because it targets a lot of different players than just those fps players.  I am sorry to burst everyones bubble... But PvP is in the minority.  There is more PvE players than there is PvP players.  I am going to say right now.  The the amount of subs for DF will be low...It will come no where close to anything that is currently out.  Maybe come close to EVE maybe...

Also YES there is nothing new about this game... It is basically all the good ideas of other games jammed into one game.  A lot of other companies do this also.  Take ideas from other games out there and use it in there game.  So don't go all out and say this game is revolutinary or has some great ideas that have never been used before.  Because than one you are making a fool of yourself because they have been used before.  two SO WHAT!  It is just ideas.  The real test comes when it is out in the market and everyone can play it.

P.S. Beware of the overhype killer!  It can destroy games as a whole!

Is it me, or does this game have many similarities to PreCu CWG?

    Are you serious?

Halo 2 on it's own has sold 14.5 million copies.

    GTA IV 10 million copies.

    COD 4 7 million copies.

There's only 1 mmo that is even in the same ballpark WoW.

God knows how many copies of Counter Strike have been sold but it must pwn wow by significant margin.

Really you know it's all speculative at this point.

That's irrelevant really, some of them probably do play mmo's but certainly far from all. The fact is the fps market is bigger so Darkfall could potentially have a wider player base than traditional mmo's.

I really, really hope this game will acomplish everything they offer. But I just don't see it.

10k pop per server in a seamless world!!  Horseback fighting, ship vs. ship battle. Fast paced fighting system, just to mention a few features.

How are they going to to it? What server technology do these guys have, that the other developers (with far more founding) do not? Is the tech. out there? What will happen when hundreds of players mass up to fight eachother? Lag feast galore??

Call me a pessimist, but I fear it will be another Vanguard.

If not, this will be the ultimate MMO for me, and you may gank me anywhere you like

Chess, monopoly, card games, trivial pursuit, sports.

There is a pretty big market for pvp games, really.
