Are D&D and AoC similar?

I am considering to start playing AoC. My friend said AoC is very much alike D&D as it has really good fantasy content and fantastic monster animations. Questing and PvE is also beyond anything he has seen before? What are your comments on that D&D guys?

i think your friend is right

i play(ed) aoc and ddo and im continuing to do so every odd month when aoc or ddo releases new content.

i think aoc has better graphics and the down to earth world is refreshingly different from all these dwarf/elf.. games including ddo. also the world is more diverse offering jungles and mountains as well as city adventures. as for the quest there are plenty in conan but my impression was that they are a bit more clever in ddo. ddo is still tmy favourite game when it comes to puzzles and scripted events inside quests.

id suggest you just buy the aoc box and try it out for the free month and maybe you end up like me loving both games revisiting both from time to time

In AoC's current state it is absolutely NOTHING like DDO!

Maybe in the future after they've improved upon the stastics in AoC it might be close, but not until then.  One thing is for sure, the graphics in AoC are vastly superior to DDO's.

DDO's diversity in character creation and tacticle combat is unmatched and AoC doesn't even come close.  On the other hand, combat in AoC does feel more, how should I say, impactful.

??..So DDO just look like DnD but it isnt?... And, DDO isnt dying, its had a steady, but "small" community since launch.

As for AoC vs DDO, turbines game are far superior. Only thing AoC does better is graphic and PvP (not good pvp though). PvE in DDO is on a whole other level competly, since the PvE in AoC is mediocre at best.

Im not the biggest fan of DDO combat, but I find it alot more enjoyable than Conan, which was just a pure failure, both in Closed Beta and at launch. When I say im not the biggest fan of DDO combat, I mean I like this type of combat in DDO type games, but not in more MMO-like games. The large mmo worlds, I need to be able to engage combat AND drink my coffee at the same time

Ohh.. regarding PvP in AoC I read that the patch 3.0 on testlive server now has a whole bunch of new PvP stuff. I did not quite get it, but there will be consequences now. You can obtain status as murderer and criminal. Murderers will get their spawn system, their  own quests as well as their own community and guards will attack them in cities. I think it sounds so cool. It's like an advanced Linage 2 system. So I decided to buy this game, I am waiting right now:)

Another thing to one of the posters above, DDO is not dying it has a strong community even though it is not the biggest. That goes for AoC also. AoC are gaining cuctomers now according to posts in MMORPG and AoC's forum (apparently after the patch that fixed memory leaks)..

I happen to play both games and Aoc and ddo are similar in the fact that they both use non standard combat systems. AoC is has much better graphics imo. DDo has a MUCH better community though. I guess it depends on whats important to you.

I played ddo since release and really thought no game would unseat my ddo addiction, but much to my suprise I rarely log into ddo anymore and I play AoC several nights a week. I really enjoy the pvp, graphics, and gritty adult themed world AoC has to offer. Thats not saying ddo is a bad game, infact its a great game. I believe I just got tired of it. I have also come to the realization that I am sick to death of elves, dwarves, and halflings.

I am now 1.5 weeks into AoC and I can not really say anyything bad about that game. My god I got surprised by this game after all the bitching in these forums.

Your OP asked about content and animations comparison. I answered that graphics were better, but PvE content wise DDO is far superior. How is that bitching? As for the other posters in this tread, I cant see much bitching there either.

I have a question for you; After 10 whole days of playing, whats your opinion of AoCs content contra DDOs?

I think he was referring to the bitching in the MMORPG AoC forum section.

    Dr. Rock;

Yeah, I hope he did mean these forums in general, but it just seemed unnatural to post that kind of post on the DDO section and not AoC. oh well, not important hehe
