Had a blast, but now I don't feel like playing

So I had the best fun I had so far with this game a few days ago. I was roaming Order territory with a Dark Elf and ganking/ambushing players whilst queing up for scenarios.

It was a blast, particularly the 'world pvp', I was doing exceptionally well because I am by nature a very competitive gamer and in one scenario was miles ahead of anyone else in terms of damage/kills. Which made me log off that day very satisifed because I love to be on top.

Anyway the point is I've tried to log in today and yesterday, looked around for about 5mins and just logged off again. I just cant bring myself to play it for some reason. It's almost like I've experienced all the game has to offer and I just don't care anymore.

It's like I know how the game will pan out, sort of when you go through halfway of a SP game and just stop playing because you know the rest will be all the same. I remember moment of intense, exhilerating pvp in WoW in the good ole days, and the pvp in this game reminds me of that and even a little bit more... but to what end? Suddenly it all feels pointless.

Because it is all pointless when your hard work and accomplishments actually have no impact on the game world proper.

You're ready for the next level.  If you want to play a game that has this now, try EVE.  But if its not your bag (and I understand, its not for everyone) then keep an eye out for DFO later this year (I hope)

So you feel like you've done this before? Let me guess, you've played WoW? I got the same feeling.

I was exactly the same in beta.  Played and then...why bother?  The game is so shallow, easy and devoid of anything special it gets stale so quickly.  The clunky combat makes it even worse.

Its the WoW model, definitely, but they dumbed it down and streamlined it so severely that there's just nothing left in it that's interesting.

If you are not trolling and are really looking for something differant seriously...try eve dude. I am liking warhammer so far its fun it is maintianing my interest, have I done it all before yeah..but its still amusing. Not into wow , good game loota fun just burnt out on it, not interested in wotlk expansion. AoC not worth talking about (IMO) TR didn't hook me, the new bioiware title looks interesting though.

Eve is like a fuk buddy, even if you dont love her you will keep coming back.. just something about it and if you can afford to run the 2 games at once you can always kick in some 35 day training cycle and play something else while your eve char cranks out skills. STEEP learning curve if you are a mouthbreather you won't GET eve lol but if you can get past the begining it is a jam, nothing like smoking someone in eve nothing, bar none. If you are competetive and like the fear of losing ALL your shit and having your body sent back to a jar of goo, you might get off on EVE.

GL hope you find something keeps you interested man.

i think all their effort was spent in advertising, because the game play and design is lacking.   melee combat is so slow and dull, spells look just as stupid as they did in daoc, and character models look like some of the repulsive artwork out of a f2p asian game.

How can it be that people need to play for 14 days to come to this conclusion?

I guess age and experience do matter. I would have bet 7 days and getting bored was the max for War.

But apparently people are so desperate to like something new, they don't see behind the emptiness of bashing heads.

Hehe I am not THAT type of gamer that you're thinking of, when I play MMOs I am very friendly and social with the people around me and I never harass my teammates for making mistakes or being 'noob', I just focus a lot on PvP and being good at it.

I'd like to add that I have tried EvE and unfortunately just could not get into it, I have friends who play it/used to play it.

Kinda got to agree a little here ,this has happened to me a couple of times too ,last night for instance I logged in really looking forward to a great session but within 5 minutes I logged off and went and created a new character in Vanguard instead. Ended up playing Vangaurd all night and really enjoyed myself.

I thought when WAR came out I'd found my new Mmo home ... just now I'm not so sure , I really want to love it  though , its kinda strange.

I think what you are realizing is that all mmorpgs are pointless.  Even the best games are in fact just a big pointless waste of time you could be doing something productive.  Perhaps its time for a new hobby.  I have been here before.

Im gessing you were not in a guild? nor had friends on your friends list?, And that you where level what 10-11 tops?..Maybe killing people 5-6 levels lower then you?.. i only ask this beacuse im not sure how after one day of decent pvp you know how the game will  "pan out". If you are as hardcore as you say with pvp then there is a ton of stuff to do But oh well WAR isnt ment for everyone, to each his own i gess.

im 12 rank and as far as i know the game realy kicks in at about a lvl 20 ish i guess.... the game does feel a litlle loney in times thats why u have to go on a full server (they realy have to up and anty the caps for population) the guy that said he played one day well you realy cant get any joy of the game in one day lol (or you can if u play like 5 hours like me lol)

  • ganbeeganbee Member Posts: 233

Everyone keeps saying the same thing, " and you only made it to what level?" Well in very idiotic opinion is a game should be great from the beginning and if it has too tail off at endgame. Lets take WOW for instance(not Fanboi just experience), it was new and exciting levels 1-50. Had me hooked in five minutes! Started several characters from start to finish. Eve, fun till I had to wait four months to level one skill!  Not too mention my corp would not give me a hand cause I started too late! Neocron one of the most inventive till endgame! War needed to be great from the get-go and not wait till your level 25? Well a common known phrase is "everything happens in the first 5 minutes of movie"

  • SlovencSlovenc Member Posts: 290

i didnt say that the game isnt good from the beggining i said that its better at lvl 20 ish (its still good at low lvl)

  • ganbeeganbee Member Posts: 233

Not trying too bash the game, just agreeing somewhat with OP. Played and said this could be cool, and all of a sudden lost the will to log in.  I am the type need something new and this seamed like a grind too have fun, almost like a F2P game.

YEah, I am feeling the same way....hmmm. It's like an emptiness of some sort. Or maybe an anti climax.

Well the thing is of course that levels (or ranks :P) are pointless for mmo's, honestly there is not 1 actual benefit to the player and its only added so that the game doesn't need to have any real depth. The only thing levels are designed to do is make you feel like you are progressing while at the same time reusing the same gameplay over and over again.

I myself am playing WAR atm and quite enjoying it, im at rank 12 so far but having said that I am also an avid Darkfall follower and like others have said here that is where you should direct your attention.

I played EvE back when it released but its probably one of the most boring games I've played but Darkfall is to me the holy grail of mmos.

EvE is a truly fantastic game, but unfortuntely requires unreasonable levels of commitment to truly experience all it has to offer.

I'm kind of in the same situation. It's an amazing game, and I think it will be very successful... but for some reason when I hit Rank 23, RR21, I just kind of got bored. I'm not sure why, I think it's because I REALLY REALLY enjoyed RvR, but having to wait a couple hours to get into a scenerio kind of sucks. I'm a grouping person, I really loathe soloing... I know it's a necessary evil sometimes, but I like to have options. I wanted more group dungeons and more loot I guess... I'm not going to unsubscribe just yet, Mythic is a great company and I have hope. Maybe they can enable cross-server scenerio queuing and add some more group PvE dungeons... that are actually worthwhile to run.

I don't want to go too far off topic, but EVE is a very casual-friendly game... so casual that you can train a skill while you aren't playing it. So, train a long skill and take a few days off, come back... and enjoy something new! It can be whatever kind of game you want it to be.

the thing with war is it only gets better as you level, unlike WoW where all you do is pve 1-70 doing the same dungeon layouts and getting steam rolled in pvp because of twinks.

Great, you figured out how the pvp system works after level 10, but did you figure in that once in a guild you can take over keeps in world RvR? did you ever see a standard bearer drop down his flag? did you ever take part in killing a keep lord?

it seems extremely shallow at first, but you have to open your eyes a bit and see everything. Of course your going to figure out what pvp is like, but you dont even know all of the extra features that are put in for higher levels.

It's hard to find the right balance. You give players similarites to end-game immediately, and they may get bored and think there's nothing new ahead. You give players a PvE quest grind to get to the end-game, and they'll complain that they have to level up to experience the fun.

The thing is, the latter is more successful, in my opinion, because while some players will complain, everyone is working towards the same goals, and it gives you something different to play for and look forward to later on. WAR just doesn't have the same hook as other games, imo. Not really a whole lot to look forward to.
