A Fresh Start, New Perspective on EVE

CowboyKarimCowboyKarim Member Posts: 15

I've recently started playing the EVE Trial (for the 3rd or 4th time ive tried the trial in a year or two).

I started the trial because I was so completely bored I started looking through MMORPG.com's top gamelist and EVE caught my eye, and I thought, "maybe this time I'll join a corporation, everyone says thats where the fun is, I can't say anything bad about the game if I haven't experienced being part of a corp first."

So I went in not too excited, but actually once I started playing the game I was getting excited about it again. After the tutorial, first thing I did was get someone to invite me to the recruitment channel and from there I ended up in a neat corp called Ser3nity. I have to admit things were getting somewhat exciting now, I had a friendly corp who gave new members access to useful parts of their hangar. Now there were times I started getting bored again and then something would happen like i'd get a new weapon to try out I thought would make the game much more fun and I got excited again. Now at this point, after 7 days, let me list some of the aspects of the game (opinion is a dangerous thing, I'll try to stay more on facts of what the game is like and let the viewer decide if it is really for them or not).

- In this game long travel times are imminent. Especially with bigger,  better ships, your speed will get slower (which you can try and curb by using afterburners but only to a certain degree). I'm talking about traveling from a station to another station 10 minutes away to pick up an item that was not available anywhere closer. (Notice I'm not saying that I favor/ do not favor this because an opinion only gets replied to with more opinions usually and I just hope to list what I've seen and then people, because they are all DIFFERENT, can make their own personal choice as to whether they would like to try the game out or not).

- The economy of this game is huge. Players have  quite the power in deciding where prices lie, and EVE has a system that tells you whether you are buying higher/lower than the average price of a region (a piece of the whole pie). There are tons of items to experiment with and no 'one' item is considered the best. You will not really see an item that has a rating (ie. 7/10) because no 'one' item is considered good against everything, for different missions there will be different types of ammo you will find more useful, etc.

- Lots of tutorials in this game. You can always click on help later and the tutorial lady will come up and explain a different aspect of the game. There is definitely a lot to learn about this game and many tutorials are provided in an effort to provide knowledge. Also many websites out there help out along the way too and applications.

-Learning a skill takes quite some time. In the beginning you will find it to be less than an hour but as you get closer to the max level of a skill (5) you may be talking days or weeks to finish learning a skill. Working oin your "Learning" skills reduces this time but it is inevitable that you will run into a skill that takes a long time to learn.

- Combat.. In combat you will need to know how far your guns reach, what type of damage the gun deals (or missles/weapon in general), it will also be helpful to know what type of ship your up against because some ships you just need to approach, others if you are more tactical you will orbit because how fast a gun tracks you also comes into factor and if you are a fast little ship and youre fighting something big and youre orbiting it (flying around it quickly) you may decrease damage dealt to you.

There's plenty more about this game, but if you want to experience the game before judging it, joining a corp is very important. I must say that the maturity level of this game tends to be better because many players I've run into, at least, have been in their young 30's or so and tend to be less "childish."

That is all I can think of for now. At this point it is a person's personal preference. There are 2d games many people would enjoy more than the highest quality games out there today and when it comes down to it, if you're willing to open your mind to anything it can be fun, and as humans we tend to look for what strikes our fancy right away and can keep us interested.

Take care.

Hi, welcome to EVE!  More than any other game, EVE has hooked my interest for the long haul!  I hope your experience is similar.

For something very different and a lot of fun, head on over to the EVE-O forum, find the Crime and Punishment section and locate the stories of brand new players who have gone to low sec space and started blowing stuff up.  If you are part of a corp that has no objection to this sort of behavior, and you can get low cost or free modules, this is a perfect way to introduce yourself to PvP, one of the things that make EVE such a uniquely enjoyable game.

The trick to EVE is to embrace interaction between players, in all forms. Don't go afk mining, running missions or join some idiot corp that is full of retards and non-effort people. Join an active group with focus, vision and a goal. And remember to interact with people, wether it's friendly or by shooting them :)
