Atlantica Online

I came across Atlantica Online while looking on some MMO sites for a new game to play. Everywhere I looked, there were ads about this game and it seemed to have a great hype on it. When open beta started, it definitely did not disappoint me. Although, the character selection at the beginning was limited to how diverse you could make your character.

One of the most unique features in Atlantica that I have yet to see in any other games in the turn-based combat. With such a unique way of play I thought I may be a little lost but the tutorial at the very beginning explained very well how the system works.

You may be thinking why would they have turn-based battle for just one character, well it's because you can hire mercenaries to fight along side you with the maximum number allowed being 9 mercenaries. You will unlock more party slots as you progress in levels as well as many more mercenary classes such as the witch, exorcist, beast trainer, spartan, and many more.

While turn-based combat is a very nice feature, this game has a semi-grindy feel to it. The basic way to level in the game as well as many other games are quest and grind but thankfully, Atlantica allows more of the quest portion then the grind portion.

Besides the turn-based combat, one of the other things that you will notice as you step into the game is where you are playing. As you open up your map, you will notice that Atlantica takes place in Asia, Europe, Africa and theres also the possiblility of them adding the other continents. As you walk through this game, you will notice monuments with detail as they are in real life. You will be able to battle in the arenas of Rome, see the sights of ancient China, and experience the terrain as if you were actually in the past civilizations.

Some of the unique features in this game are crafting, mentor/apprentice, guild control over city and free league. The crafting in this game is one of the most in depth I have ever used. There is crafting for everything that you will need from armor and weapons all the way to licences and books. It is very detailed allowing you to actually learn crafting levels from another player in the game with a higher crafting level.

The mentor/apprentice system allows veteren players to help the new players in the game. When your apprentice reaches level 30, the mentor will be given 200K as a reward for helping(or not helping in some cases). This system is easily abused and has flaws but it has good intentions.

One of the more interesting features in my opinion is the ability for a guild to control a city. First off, to create a guild, you have to reach level 20 which is roughly about a day or two of casual play. Afterwards, you can apply for control of a city but must beat other guilds who want the city by bidding for it using guild points. If you can have the highest bid for 24 hours, you will control the city.  Control of a city will allow you to tax people to use your services and can make a guild go from rags to riches.

Of course, virtually every MMO will have a PvP system implented within the game. The PvP system within Atlantica is known as the free league, This will pair you up with people within your division(usually around the same levels but sometimes you get unlucky) to battle it out and test your formation and strength. With each win, you get a little more fame and eventually, you will be upgraded into a higher division. Another aspect of this is called Arena Betting. In Arena Betting, you bet on NPC teams to see who will win. What's better then watching level 100's fight it out to the death while you make money off them....Nothing.

Overall, Atlantica is a great game for anyone ranging from your casual MMORPG player to your hardcore MMORPG player. With some bugs here and there that could use some fixing, Atlantica will not disappoint players from its constant events to its friendly in-game community.

I find this game to be fun, and that's the bottom line in gaming. I couldn't care less if it had terrible graphics, as long as I am having fun. That said, I really enjoy the battle system in this game. Surprising, given that I was rather skeptical about a turn-based MMO. This game is really done well, and highly polished for a game in open beta. I enjoy watching my mercenaries prosper, and I hope endgame content is good as well.

I found this game unique and interesting for about 3 days. Then i soon realized that nothing was in depth and i found travel and locating places confusing.I saw a few things in there that could have given the game a lot of potential but as is ,it's not worth constant play time.I know one poster here says it's fun, that's the bottom line,i found it fun for the first day then it soon became anything but.It actually got so boring to me that i couldn't even bother to continue playing to take a look at some of other things the game has to offer,so i deleted it.

I have still yet to see a F2P game that is any good.I guess i am looking to compare F2p to P2p games,it just seems that it will never happen.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I have been playing this game for 1week now and whenever I log in I can't log out.. it's that fun =p I tought I would get bored of killing mobs but the quests are actually interesting and I want to know what will happen next. besides there are other thing to do. I love finding traveling npcs, trying to get better equipment (I really hate searching for equips in other games) but in AtO the idea with boxes, enchanting etc. is really good and I like it. I love the way guilds and towns operate.

Sure.. The game needs a little more depth but I found that you can do more here than in many other games and it's fun =P

good point! nowadays there are too many games out there trying to win gamers with uber graphics or hyped up gaming style... the best thing i like about this game is it went back to basics.. making the game simply fun... there is nothing quite like it.. in fact there are others quite like it.. the true and unpretentious fun games that unfortunately noe new game devs dont care to understand.. Props to AtO developers for such a masterpiece

Not only is it basic, there something about it that just makes me go back to it. Every time I think about playing it, I pretty much know what I have to do next (kill this, get that, talk to him, etc) but even knowing that, there's something about the game that just makes me play it. Any good game in my opinion can do that.

Maybe because we started playing during the boom of final fantasy series which is the hype of a turn based system... i dont know what's in it that makes us crave for more// maybe because it is one of the hassle free in terms of leveling up.. you are not engage in running while shooting or hit and run to avoid mosnters something like that... and they have the quest that are not so complicated yet not so boring... so i think atlantica has this charisma makes you crave for more

people are also forgetting the the excellent setuo of the market system in the game... with the laws of supply and demand perfectly implemented,, economists will wonder why is it that easy to implement the free hand or laissez fair theory.. bsically anyone can dictate the terms of the market... its amazing how easy it is to understand economics and play with it at the same time...  you can apply the lessons here actually in the real world.. once you know how to understand the interplay between supple and demand, staying in the market will be a game all in itself already
