Preorder: Generic vs Collector's Edition

BuddrowBuddrow Member Posts: 28

Hi, if you've preordered EQ2, please post to say if you are getting the collector's edition or not. I am getting it, although in past games I have opted against it. Being that its DVD only, I'm guessing many won't be getting it for that reason alone.

Actually, even if you are waiting til release to buy, go ahead and chime in as well. :)

I'm getting the normal version in CD format.  I don't really think collectors version is worth it.  It gives you talking statues for your house (they are included in DVD version), paintings (they are included in CD version), and an exclusive baby pet dragon, all of those come in collectors addition.  And it gives you a cloth map, some booklet of screenshot.  I really don't want any of those, paintings seem the most realistic and immersive, so i prefer those.  The really only thing i would want is the map, but if the version i preordered comes with it, then there is no reason for me to buy collectors. image

Unfortunately, the idea of a pet baby dragon is just too cute for me to resist image

I have preordered the regular DVD version.

The difference between the regular (generic) DVD and CD version is the in-game items you are offered. On the DVD you get two talking statues. On the CD you get some artwork.

I ordered the regular DVD version for the simple reason of having less cds to deal with and of course the talking statues image

The CE isnt really worth it IMO cuz youre paying 40 bucks for a map, coin, a baby dragon FOR YOUR HOUSE(cant walk around with it kinda lame), Talking statues for your house (get it in DVD version) and screenshot artwork for your house (get it in the CD version).

It you wanna pay 40 bucks more for a pet dragon that just sits in your house all the time (I dunno about you but I rarely visit my house when playing a game anyways) then go ahead and buy it. Its not worth it though seriously.

CD version you just need a CD drive on your computer and it comes with 4-6 CDs to install the game. Comes with an In-game item (exclusive paintings of EverQuest II scenery/screenshots to be used in player housing)
DVD version you need a DVD drive on your computer and it comes with 1-2 DVDs to install the game. Comes with an  In-game item (talking statues of Antonia and Lucan to be used in player housing)
The pet dragon is a house item you stick in your house and it just sits there basicly ... it probabaly has an animation but its just for your house. Its not like you can take it out for a walk or anything to show it off =P

Im just preorderin the DVD normal version, cant be screwed wading through 10 CD's, and think what would happen if the last one was scratched? image, i think the DVDs are the safer bet, and DVD drives are only what, like $20-$35 bucks?

The only reason I wanted the collectors edition was for the pet dragon, but I couldn't see spending $40 for that alone.  Went with the regular DVD version.

Right now I'm debating on whether or not to get the CE or the plain DVD version. One thing that I didn't see mentioned in this thread was that the CE comes with a soundtrack of the game's music. And since the music is supposed to be pretty good (some composer with a decent track record performed by an orchestra in Prague if I read correctly), it might be a neat item to have. Also comes with an exclusive art book (neat for maybe 30 minutes), and a DVD of all the EQII trailers, gameplay videos, and behind the scenes footage. But again, something that will probably be watched once (if that) and never looked at again.

So is all that worth $40? Probably not. But if EQII turns out to affect my life as much as EQLive did, I'll end up regretting it if I don't get the Collector's Edition. Of course, if they game some how sucks, I'll regret paying $40 extra for nothing.

In the end, I think I'm going with the CE just because I'll find a way to not pay for it (b-day coming up~). But I don't think I'd pay $90 of my own money for it.

It would be nice if you could bring your dragon out inside guild housing as well.

Not going to pay for a collector's edition.  While the DVD version would be nice for fewer CDs, I don't like the idea of a talking statue in my house.  Sure, it'd be cute at first, but then it'd end up in a closet or on the curbside.  Paintings sound much more pleasant.   image

I was thinking about getting the Collector's Edition or just getting the regular DVD version. Can't really make up my mind, but I'm leaning towards getting the Collector's Edition. I'll look at the DVD video, listen to the Sound track, flip through the Art book, flip the coin a few times, check out the cloth map, then go in game and play with my baby dragon and talk to the statues about my paitings. Oh yeah and I'll look at the two posters it comes with also. I'm a big Everquest fan so $40 extra for all those goodies isn't a big price. The question is do I want them? I haven't pre-ordered yet, but will soon when I finally make up my mind. Odds are I will be flipping that coin on release date though.image

Honestly, It is alot of extra money for not too much of a bonus. It really depends on how long I end up playing EQ2. If I mess around for a few weeks and then never log in again, well yes that was a waste of money. However, if it ends up like the original where I've played, off and on, for four years, well I think then the extra little goodies will be a good investment. (only if I can invite girls into my shack to play with my fearsome little dragon, of course)

I am such a serious gamer and I just love everything about Everquest.  It is one of my all-time favorite mmorpgs and PC games overall.

I ordinarily purchase the generic versions of games unless I really love it.  I will be getting the Collectors Edition of Everquest II, I already pre-ordered.  Sometimes it's not only what you get in the package that makes it worthwhile, but the idea that I'm getting a limited edition of a game that is boxed differently and is usually alittle nicer.  I keep all of my boxes and contents from the games I buy.

The last collectors Edition game I bought was Warcraft III and it was packed with cool stuff.  I didn't buy the Star Wars Galaxies Collectors Edition and I regret it . . . even though now there are still copies available and it is much cheaper.

Sometimes pre-ordering a game can be good.  When I pre-ordered Lineage II I got to try the beta for a couple of months and learn that the game wasn't for me.

The pre-order for Everquest II allowed me to pick up a character generator CD that let me build my character, although my name is not reserved for the release, so it does me no good (the name is what's most important afterall).

I think for the extra money, pre-orders are worth it for hie-hard fans of the game.

I went with the Collecters, I just wanted to get all the little cool stuff, that and I thought when I pre-ordered mine you would get a bigger in-game house. Guess that's not true anymore.

The Statue is an option...your not stuck with it just because you choose the DVD...if you have a DVD drive honestly I think youd be stupid not to get the game on DVD, I mean its a 6 gig install, thats alot of CD's where as its what, 1 DVD?

PS: No hard feelings, right geeks?

Im going with the CD version.

I brought a Subaru Impreza Turbo WRX STi.
A friend didnt see the reason why to pay more for a faster, badass looking car, when you can do only 30mph on most roads.
PS: Who has the bigger ...

Im no geek, quite the opposite, im a hardcore gamer these days. Geeks spend all their time reading books/inet and know everything of everything that is usually a bore to people that arnt geeks.

Geeks playing computer games, thats deffo something new in todays world..

I preordered the Collector's Edition only because one, I've never had a collectors edition to any game and two, I think this game is going to be awesome. I've blown far more money on less lasting things, especially in the military (women, booze, more women). So splurging once in a while is good.
