The bonus point system.. what hell is it all about?

I have a very perplexing question that could possibly haunt me throughout my whole gaming life in AtO. How valuable are the Bonus points..???

Now if im correct you only get 1 bonus point per level, so does that necessarily mean I have to think wisely on where to spend these bonus points?

See what im doing now is as long as i get skillbooks or growthvials(beg) i just spam my BPs on them. so lets say the maximum level in the game is 120, does that mean i will never be able to max out my skill level since i only have a maximum of 120 BPs to level them up?

Whats worse is like for shamans who have alot of skills, does that mean i have to have my shaman merc focus on a particular skill to reap the full benefits of a skill? Like lets say I want a healer, i will just spam my BPs on heal blessing and whenever i get hex o darkness or others i just trade them away?

what the hell is the bonus point system all about?
