I don't know if this has been talked about.. so I'm sorry if it has. And i dunno if it was common rule of thumb to disable superfetch... while gaming on Vista... so im sorry again if it is.
Friend on Warhammer told me, that turning off Superfetch using Vista... gave him a gain in performance. I thought it was complete bull, but i though it was BS... turning up AF to x16 to gain performance was BS to. But that actually gave performance gain.
So i figured hey... what would it hurt. So i tured off Superfetch and actually gained performance with Warhammer.
So i dunno, i figured i share.. for people who like to see if they can gain some more performance using Vista. And didn't know bout superfetch.
To disable.. click on Start Icon type services in search. Click on the services link. Scroll down to superfetch. Right click and click on properties... then where it says start up type click on disable.
Hope it helps gain you some more performance.

WAR doesn't ever push my CPU over 40% and that's running Vista 64.
Make a difference!
This is an excellent tip and one I always recommend for Vista.
what does Superfetch actually do?
The simplest explanation is that it 'learns' what applications you run often and under what circumstances and gets them loaded in your system memory just in case. An excellent feature if you're lucky enough to be running a Cray
ok,cheers for that another useful tip I'll try it
I thought I'd add a link for anyone that's really interested in improving their windows performance.
Now some of the suggestions on this site are questionable, but these are marked and explained well.

I have been running with blackviper's tweaked services on vista since I was forced to run it because of hardware driver availability; but that is beside the point. In blackviper's suggestions it does not suggest to turn off Superfetch so I had it enabled still. I read this post at work, disabled it when I got home, and it does, in fact, considerably increase performance.
I highly recommend disabling superfetch for any Vista user while playing Warhammer.
Thank you kindly,

Oh wow, you're right!
In fact, he advocates leaving SuperFetch on Automatic.
Oh well, nobody's perfect. lol
Thanks, I'll have to try it!
NICE! it actually works! huge framerate jump. i dont know if it was the superfetch or the AF filtering or both. great tip!
I have a nice gaming system and War was fast...but after your sugestion...holly heck..its even faster.
It works.
