Anybody else bothered by Eve jumping to First

Is it just me or does anybody else really botherd that somehoe a game like EVE managed to slip into first on the ratings meaning that these ratings should be revamped a bit ?

Well, I was a bit suprised too. Why?
EVE is, with AO, no doubt among the best MMORPGs out there. It's design and game mechanical structures are years ahead of most currently running MMORPGs and it supports player generated content in a way no other game does. Also it's pure technical design, and one server that is able to run more than 10k simultaneous players in one game world is rather impressive in the MMORPG scale.
What surprises.. Correction, makes me glad, is that EVE is also for a bit more mature and demanding players. I wouldn't have expected the masses to find it as good as it is.
On the other hand, I haven't looked into the changes made in character creation and how the first steps go for a new player. Most games and game companies start really working on making the first steps easy and an interesting path for a noob after the first year. Some, like AO, do it quite a bit later but this work always has a great impact on the popularity of the game.
Overall, if you don't like the game, don't rush into hoping it's just because some mindless hordes or a staff conspiracy is tweaking the numbers. EVE is an *excellent* game, even if it's not for everyone (as if any game is).
OMG you don't like the game so they MUST be wrong?? How lame.
I really enjoyed the game and just canceled my account with school starting up again. The number of players online at all times in that game would suggest that a lot of people also enjoy the game.
But by all means tweak the ratings because the fans of those other games can't be bothered to vote for them.

While I completely disagree with EVE being rated so high, the ratings dont bother me any least bit because they are 100% useless.

I know I wasn't surprised - the reason being that I understand how the system works. Number of active accounts / sales isn't taken in, so it just boils down to whether or not someone feels like filling out the review form. I'd actually be impressed if MMORPG.com was somehow able to figure out which games have the largest subscription base and post THAT number.
Why anyone cares about the rankings of games based on player votes is beyond me.
They have meaning, yes, but they are not authoratative nor are they inherently accurate. They do not represent the game, they are only one of many indicators.
Played it for 20 minutes and uninstalled it. Maybe a thinking mans game but it didnt have that "Hook" that some MMORPGs have that you dont ever want to leave your reclining leather chair unless you soil yourself.. Each to their own I guess...

Well it does not bother me it is up there, is it true, not for me...was in Beta, for about 1 day till I got sick of it. Even downloaded the 14 day trial, played it for 1 day and found out it was still worthless. If you like eye candy, and mining hey it may be for you

Uhm... read these two sentences again carefully, then note the two words I have emphasized from my original post. Also, please return to the game list, where you will discover that Eve is currently the top rated MMORPG here on MMORPG.com, the difinitive website for documentation and rating of this genre of game. Basically, what I'm getting at is that, by residing in the #1 slot here, Eve technically IS the best game currently out. Sorry.

MMORPG.com does not represent any where close to the number of people that play MMO's. I love this site as much as the next man, but calling it the 'definative source for rating' is a stretch. ( A big one )
If Eve were truely the best. It would be posting about having the highest subsciber base of any MMO. Though I don't think it's fair. Numbers rarely lie, and Eve does not boast the numbers to claim 'best'. Call it great. Call it good. Call it excellent, but calling it the 'best' currently out is just wrong.

You're right! All other MMORPGS need countless number of Asteroids so players can go over to them. Attack them. Gather the minerals. Go to a station. Sell them. And do it ALL OVER AGAIN! It's such a mind-blowing concept.

Love the generalization there. of course I pretty much did the same thing with Eve, I don't have ADD, I'm not a pre-teen and the last time I was "angst driven" was years ago and that was called puberty. Maybe it's because... I don't know... I'm human and not everybody likes everything you do and may not like Eve? Naww.
When you hear ppl talking about favorite mmoRPG's you dont hear AO or Eve in there. That's why. EQ, AC, and UO should all be top 5

Because you dont have to mine in this game lol. Please...if someone bashes a game please have the knowledge of the game before you do so.,..it really makes you look bad (uninformative). This goes to EQ, EQ2, WoW, DaoC, etc.
Be somewhat knowledgable in the game before you bash it.
Also, if you hate it...go and give it the rating it deserves. You have just as much say against it as others have for it.

heh.. Eve Online has dropped from 8.3 to 8.2 since this thread was created.
And it would be nice if the rating system would be go to 2 or 3 decimals, like 8.235 instead of just one, since there are 3 games with an 8.2 rating(I know it probably does do this, but it would be nice if we could see it).

Well, the game have tones of great features, but gameplay is extremely boring! Mix that with a more arcadelike EnB style gameplay *blink blink*, and you'll have a winner.. IMO!
