I did a search through the forums and found something like 2-3 posts threads about this, all woefully out of date for the most part. Figured I would see what I can find here, maybe get some answers.
I don't care if it's free or P2P, I just want a good one. I've tried...well...tons of them. Most can hold my attention for a week or two but then they get old, which seems to be a problem with most games for me. Sometimes I find one (like WoW or City of Heroes/Villains) that manages to hold me for months, close to two years now on Cities, but sometimes I just like a change you know?
I'm not going to list the anime games i've played for the simple reason that I don't want to "taint" your opinions. If you list one I've already played as being really good it could just mean I didn't give it enough of a chance, so I want to see what people come up with.
The biggest thing I think I tend to look for is customization with character appearance, and the ability to keep yourself looking fairly unique throughout the game. Relationship systems are a big bonus as my fiance almost always tries any game I get into. Oddly enough even grinding I don't mind to much, as long as it's not so excessive that I'm only level 30 and wishing I could chew off my fingers to stop myself from touching the game again.
If it has open PvP of any kind it's an auto-no. PvP is fine, good PvP is even better, but any game that makes ganking an option is one I won't play.
Dunno, any ideas out there? The only one I'll say I don't want recommended is Mabinogi, or however it's spelled. The combat system is a little too touchy for me, half the time it doesn't seem to want to respond correctly.
[edit] Blah...I thought my search was over when I found Concerto Gate, but no...still not into the next beta phase. Always seems like the best games I want to try aren't available :P

Grand Chase is anime style. Can't be ganked either. Played as a 2d side scroller. PVP are actuall arean you join. Can join at any lvl if you get bored. Not my kind of game but many do enjoy it. Give it a shot.
Zu Online is kinda anime style, but its a longshot. Try it if you haven't.
Enjoy : )
Oddly enough Grand Chase is the game I'm in the process of installing right now. Never tried anything like it so who knows?
I'll take a glance at the other game if I have a chance, but just from first glimpses of it's website doesn't seem like something I'll look into to deeply.
Yeah, Zu is a longshot.
As far as Grand Chase, forget everything you know about MMO"s and open up. Its not a bad game at all (as long as you don't start comparing with others, then it may seem bad)
Enjoy : )
Wait for Aion, in the meantime, if you don't mind cell shaded kind of graphics, you can fool around in Mabinogi I guess...there's lots of customizing you can do and you can re-do it wihout deleteing your character but its not free in that sense.
of course not... but i wish there was. Anime style rules.
Anyone seen the graphics for full metal alchemist on playstation 2 ?
i want an mmo with those graphics.
Its easy to pee in the toilet, but most of us dont.
LOl aion isn't anime style, i would say try out maple story and ROSE online
I tried Maple Story and ROSE actually. MS is one of the worst games I've ever had the misfortune to waste time downloading. ROSE was fun though, at least for a little while. There didn't seem to be to much to do.
Aion I actually am waiting for, but the more I hear about it the more it seems to be a PvP centric game...so I'll more than likely avoid it. Need to get Concerto Gate's beta now That or they need to translate Tales Weaver into English >>
Well all the 2D games i know are the same grind till cap as most anime games are from korea and korea focusses there games on grind mainly so just play a game you like even though it's pointless
Flyff
Fun anime style game, at level 20 you can fly around anywhere you like with a broom or surfboard type thing.
Dragonica looks pretty fun http://dragonica.iahgames.com/CBT/Registration.aspx
