How do I turn off one core in Vista?

ArndurArndur Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 2,202

Ok im running a AMD dc if that makes a difference. TO run NWN I need to set the exes to be compatablity with xp sp2 and turn off one core. Ive set them all to xp sp2 but cant figure out how to turn off a core so I can run it.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

Task Manager - Processes tab - *.exe (right click and select 'Set Affinity')

    *****Rephrase*****

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and then select 'Task Manager'

On the Processes tab, right click on the exe you want. NWN.exe if I recall correctly

    Select 'Set Affinity'

    Uncheck CPU 1

    Hit OK

    Send money to Darwa

    Just had a thought.

Have you installed the AMD dual core driver?

It's a pretty nifty thing to have, and I'm not sure if windows update includes it or not.

I was afraid you were going to say that.

I just asked someone I know that plays NWN how he got it to run in vista, and here's what he did:

MAKE A BACKUP OF THE FILE BEFORE CONTINUING

He opened up nwnplayer.ini (found in the main game directory) using Notepad and turned off affinity, so it looks like this:

    Client CPU Affinity=-2

I gotta head to bed now mate. I hope that worked.

If not, here's a copy/paste from an IM I got on the subject (yes you had a few geeks on the case)

    [QUOTE]

1.) Run the setup.exe file for NWN as administrator (with the shield icon, you know?)

2.) Do not update the game via the installer

3.) Navigate to your NWN folder and run nwupdate.exe as administrator

    4.) Update!

5.) Run the setup.exe file on the expansion disk as administrator

6.) Do not update the game via the installer

    7.) Run nwupdate.exe as administrator
