Atlantica Online is a new MMO from NDoors Games. A lot of people have been wondering what it was like and so I thought I would post a review for some people to judge whether or not they will like the game.
A lot of people have been saying the game is like a combination of WoW and Final Fantasy. Is it like World of Warcraft? I haven't played that game so I can't draw any specific similarities, however, the multi-player and teamwork aspect you hear about in WoW is present in this game. I have played Final Fantasy games before and I can say that while the combat is somewhat similar it still doesn't play out exactly the same as games from that series. I'll explain in more detail in this list of features I like about the game:
- Unique turn-based battle system -- The battle system is sort of like Final Fantasy, as I said above, but is still very unique. There are two phases: The Player Phase and the Enemy Phase. Each character has a number above their health and mana bars. This is known as Action Points and when the number is at 100 or more, that character is allowed to attack or use magic during the Player Phase (keep in mind that magic and scrolls cannot be used on the first turn). What skills or magic the character uses determines whether they get to do anything on the next Player Phase or not.
- Advanced guild system -- Players may form guilds to make new friends or have allies during fierce boss battles. Guilds can take control of towns through economic means and all guild members will gain experience points based on how well the town prospers.
- Friendly and helpful community -- The community is very helpful and a global chat system (labeled Peers in the chat box) allows you to quickly ask a question that everyone will see and be able to reply to. There is also a mentor system players over level 30 can participate in to help newer players with the game and they get rewarded when the newer player reaches level 20.
- Responsive and helpful GMs and admins -- Like any free online game, you are going to see bots and gold sellers spamming up the chat box or sending you messages to your mailbox. This can be solved by simply posting a screenshot of the offenders on the game's official forums (by the way, screenshots are saved to the screenshot folder where you installed the game when you hit the Print Screen button, so you can take multiple screenshots in one session without the need to open an image program).
- Nice graphical quality -- The game looks pretty good with the default settings, but you can raise the quality to make it look even better. Just be careful when doing this because if there are a lot of characters on screen at once, it may slow down your computer. Here are some screenshots to judge the graphics for yourself if you like:
Well there's my basic review of the game for people who were wondering what it was like. If you have any specific questions about things in my review you can post here if you like. If you need help in the game and play on the Mycenae server, my character's name is Arkon.
