In all seriousness The 2 cant be compared. War is a complete mmo (with a few problems yes) thats a ton of fun. I had a lot of fun in AoC also in the begining but it turned very very stale right around level 48. It only got worse at the end game. I remember alot of us got to 80 at the same time and after we were done we all stood around and said "what now?". Right after that we all pretty much quit a week or so after. There just isnt anything to do. Now I havent reached the endgame in War yet but it looks alot more promising than AoC did. p.s. Who is gonna be the first person to figure out the undertone in the above comparisons
You have aboviously not read what people think of WAR. It's boring, no fun, outdated. So complete (which I really think many people would dispute) or not a boring game is just useless. A game is supposed to be fun. AoC wins hands down just with simple stuff as fatalities and weapon arcbased damage. If you want to bring in the cannons, AoC blast WAR away with it's PvE content, graphics, atmosphere, combat system in general, characters and so on...
I guess thats why so many more people are playing AoC than War.
WAR has a PvP and RvR system in place that is actually meaningfull and working. Renown Ranks reward you with Armor and Armor Sets. Guilds can take over Keeps which gives everyone near the Keep Buffs, give bonus to Guild experience (yeah guilds actually level up in WAR and you get rewards for that). Guild Standards add to the tactical aspect of RvR/PvP. Scenarios are quick PvP mini games that reward you with rare drops, experience and renown. Open RvR you take over objectives to get renown and give the whole Tier buffs and bonus to exp/merchants/renown. AoC is not even in the same league if it comes to meaningfull PvP RvR.
Some corrections as there still seem to be many people that haev no clue what they are talking about: @Azrile
PVP - Considering both games are supposedly pvp games.. neither is really that good at the moment. Warhammer has a better pvp system in place, unfortunately because of their reward system, players are flocking to the least fun aspect (minigames) and avoiding the meat of their pvp (RvR). AOC suffers from population problems ( seiging doesn't happen, so the only real pvp is pointless skirmishes in a very small area). If you really like mini-games (bg/scenarios) then Warhammer wins. If you don't like them, then neither game is really that great. On my server there are daily sieges and battle onbjectives in open RvR. Some of the best Armor/Weapons come from open RvR. The rewards are just the same as for Scenarios, you actually need to do them both to complete Armor Sets. @CobraSolidus
When that is said I also want to comment on WAR as I have tried that. That game has just the same amount of zoning. Whenever you try to enter RvR you have to zone (lets not forget RvR is supposedly the core of this game). Thats ok, but graphics here again is not that hot. And, there is in general a lot of waiting before getting into RvR (either because there is not enough people, there is too many people or because the whole thing is just terribly imballanced) You do not have to zone every time you want to PvP/RvR, just to join the Scenarios. Scenarios pop within minutes, some are not fun however and will pop very rarely. I have waited a maximum of 5 minutes to join a scenario. They usually pop within 1-2 minutes after i queue up. (Volkmar Server) @Kanemura
The thing is, when a player can run Crysis at a very playable framerate, play COD4 on damn near max settings for hours on end with no issues, and run Oblivion and Bioshock flawlessly as well, then a game with subpar graphics like WAR should run even better...right? WRONG! I run WAR in 1920x1080 highest seting with forced 4xAA and 4xAF at 60fps. The only time i have to switch to fastest framerate setting is in sieges with 100+ players. I take that compromise for the pure fun these sieges are. I have a Q6600@2.8GhZ, 2GB RAM and a 8800 GT Superclocked. No fancy SLI or super gaming PC. The system is however clean of any useless backround tasks or crappy software. Only thing that runs in the background is Virus/Firewall software and Ventrillo. Oh and it is XP, on Vista i never get 60 FPS and trust me i tried.
I agree with this guy 100%.
I am having a blast playing War.
AoC was fun, but not close to being fun as Warhammer.
What Warhammer has is a team feeling aspect that AoC will never have.
Had AoC divided the countries for PvP AKA Bane, then it would have been top notch.

I havent tried WAR yet due to my experiences with AoC, Im far more gun-shy when it comes to spending money on any MMO.... WoW looks like the place I will land again. I left a day or maybe a week after the BC launch and so I have all that to do, all the while knowing its a solid development team behind the game.

WAR's problems are less on the technical front and more on the community side. Sure there's reports of bad performance (hitching etc...). Most of the reports are about RvR being a no show, while scenarios reign supreme. From a content/game-play standpoint WAR is okay, it offers possibly to much in every tier, creating a rift between players and their choice of whats more fun to do.

AOC is flashy , while WAR is going to be epic (a classic)? Or something along those lines?

i love AOC, but dont find teh endgame very fun, with teh low pops and teh half a pvp system. Just all there is to do is pvp right now, and that gets wack after a while.
WAR??? i tried it in open beta and after 15 hours of play, i cancelled my preorder. It was just too much cloning in that game for me to openly appreciate it.

Dude you are not supposed to wander around in the countryside by yourself. You are supposed to join a guild and Siege, either to defend your city or to kill and rape in other cities.

Is there a reason why you are telling someone how they should be playing the game that they bought with their own money?
Did the game box state that the only way that AoC is playable is when you join a guild and seige/defend a city?
Not everyone is into large scale PvP combat, some people just like to solo and wander around the countryside and explore the game.
However, if you are indeed correct and that the only thing left in AoC to do is largescale PvP seiging then it is no wonder that the game is practically dead.

Practically dead, WTF are you talking about? I think it is time some people here pull it out and try sample some of AoC's servers before they are making a bigger fool of themselves. Remember most guys in this forum, exept a few haters, play the game and call your BS. May I ask what server you are refering to as dead as in low population? Is it those 4 servers (probably to be merged) with the other 24?

While the game may not be dead, I think its settled into its player base at 50-100k and will most likely hover there for the rest of its life span. I think the server merges are an absolute must at this point. Not only for those still playing but for those that actually do decide to try it and having any chace of them staying.

The numbers are not really that bad, the servers are still fuller than Turbines in LOTRO. On the other hand is AoC stable now, WAR is starting to go down so who will know where they are in year.
While it is true that WAR didnt go down as fast as AoC for the first weeks, AoC sold more initially so don't laugh to much, it might well be that the majority that quited AoC and went back to wow are the same players trying WAR now and will quit soon if they havn't already. It might not off course.
There is BTW a petition for server merges of WAR here on this forum also. And WARs sales are way down now. One thing is certain, WARs players will not be more in a month than right now.
And it is bad that the new MMOs have problem holding their players, might be hard to find investers to new ones if it continues like this. This is actually bad because both AoC and WAR are really good games even though they both released to early.

WAR reported 500k accounts in the first week, no idea what you are talking about AoC selling more than WAR. Mark Jacobs just announced 750k accounts created (see source below).

They had to clone 4 Servers within the first week because they where full. Servers still report queues all over the place. There is no talk about server merges, there are actually trying to balance out Order vs. Destruction on some one sided servers with a reward program that gives people incentives to move to a different server (currently a 20% exp and renown Bonus). Please stop spreading lies or inform yourself before you post.
Thanks guys. The bottom line is this, WAR is either #1 or #2 in terms of fastest selling subscription-based MMOs to date and one of the fastest selling PC games in history. So, no matter what, we have already earned a place in PC game history. This is one of the reasons we are using our current approach of turning on the exp firehose toward the selected servers.
As always, this is only the first step but WAR has, as of now, exceeded my initial projections for WAR when we were first acquired by EA.
We thank you for your support and patronage and we'll continue to work hard to deserve it.
I'll be delivering some more good news later today.

Good job, but tell me why did WAR drop -26% in Xfire activity as well as number of players from last friday till this friday?
I don't know anything about XFire to be honest. My guild uses Ventrillo. The only thing i can say is that if out of 750k players 11k use XFire then this is a very small sample group. Usually the first 2 weekends are the most busy for a new MMO, i am not playing as much as i did the first week/2 weekends. I probably play 30% less now simply because there is also real life on weekends and i rather cut down my game time than my 'playing' time with the misses.
"Give players systems and tools instead of rails and rules"
taus01: AoC did sell 850K the first month. that still more than 750K, the 500K was the last I heard a week or so away.
Still we are so far in Off topic land now that we all should be edited and the thread locked, read the original post again...
I never said WAR is a bad game, I actually think that Both games are good but I do see them easy fall to few subs because the Wow players the attracted wanted wow. Check all the negative posts here on why people is quiting WAR, they are going back to Wow again. As they did from AoC.
I do hope WAR keeps it's number and I also hope that AoC recovers but I fear people really wants Wow and don't like the newer games because they ain't wow. If that happens the whole MMO business will come to a standstill because almost all players will play the same game, I am not saying Wow is a bad game either but competition is good and without it nothing will happen on the market.
Both AoC and WAR have many nice ideas and maybe if someone actually steals all the good things of both the games we would finaly have a real winner that feels different from all the current games and could be the next big thing.
AOC at the same point in time had 800k accounts created
per their 2nd quarter financial report
"So far the game has sold-in (to retail and digitally)
over 1.2 million copies and has sold through over
800.000 copies (i.e. customers that since launch
have bought a game client and entered their game
client key and payment details into Funcom’s billing
database)."
So comparing apples to apples, AOC did better initially then Warhammer is doing (800 to 750). Of course we all know that AOC bombed after that. But there is pretty compelling evidence to show that Warhammer is having a similar dive (maybe not as steep). Warhammer has fallen to #62 on the sales chart, xfire shows about a 40% drop in play time over a two week period, and more and more servers in warhammer are showing low/low or low/med type numbers and fewer and fewer servers have ques.
I don't think there is much reason to believe that Warhammer will have more than the 415k number that AOC had at the end of it's free 30 days and it still has to contend with Wraith on Nov 13th.

Where do you come up with your numbers????? lets see...sept 26th 54765 hours played. October 3rd 51135 thats a difference of 3630 hours. Thats a decrease of 15% for just 1 day. I could go through and throw out xfire numbers that show the numbers are up. Not sure where you get 26% from but I guess we can discuss your math skills at a later time. Of course you fail to mention the fact that the servers were down for part of the day last Friday as they were today (4 hours to be exact).
Why dont you mention that on several other posts you say that xfire numbers mean absolutly nothing. I can always go through your posts again and prolly find 2 or 3 more that say you hate "xfire threads" and about how they mean "nothing". -26% is the worst development from one week to the next. If we take a more fair average we can perhaps take a monday to thursday week average. Lets take last weeks monday to thursday and compare it to this weeks monday to thursday.
Last week: 52661+52021+50847+46742=202271
This week: 42130+45059+43831+37808=168828
168828/202271=0.83 which is a -17% reduction in gametime as a sliding average. If weekends also are included the playtime reduction is getting even worse (so no use for you even trying that). Also if you compare number of logged people it is showing some of the same trend. Stop BSing us. Anybody that look on that graph can see WAR is loosing interest from Xfire players bigtime and it will just be more and more evident for every day.www.xfire.com/games/who/Warhammer_Online_Age_of_Reckoning/
Therefore if we are going to have a AoC vs WAR thread here ,stop trying to BS the AoC forum that WAR have this bright future populationwise. We have to wait and see WAR as for every other game because guess what it drops pretty rapidly RIGHT NOW. Therefore, lets rather discuss the games themselves as in systems, animations, etc.. if there is interest for that.

/sacasm off
I agree with this guy 100%.
I am having a blast playing War.
AoC was fun, but not close to being fun as Warhammer.
What Warhammer has is a team feeling aspect that AoC will never have.
Had AoC divided the countries for PvP AKA Bane, then it would have been top notch.
undertones makes zero sense to me, sorry.
Extremism in the defense of Liberty is no vice.
Some people are like slinkies, they dont really have a purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Everyone on the right is dead, extinct or gone
me wubs you, hamrtime2.!

Give WAR some time, it will be nice to see 3 months and 6 months mark.
@OP
AoC : great but unfinished game.
WAR : quite finished but mediocre game.

And Mark Jacobs answer (Mythic VP):
Folks,
Thanks guys.

Good job, but tell me why did WAR drop -26% in Xfire activity as well as number of players from last friday till this friday?
www.xfire.com/games/who/Warhammer_Online_Age_of_Reckoning/
I don't know anything about XFire to be honest. My guild uses Ventrillo. The only thing i can say is that if out of 750k players 11k use XFire then this is a very small sample group. Usually the first 2 weekends are the most busy for a new MMO, i am not playing as much as i did the first week/2 weekends. I probably play 30% less now simply because there is also real life on weekends and i rather cut down my game time than my 'playing' time with the misses.
taus01: AoC did sell 850K the first month. that still more than 750K, the 500K was the last I heard a week or so away.
Just to clarify.
Warhammer just announced 750k accounts created
There is no comparison.
Failcom v Mythic - your choice.

Don't make me laugh..
OrionMan....most people come on these boards and discuss their opinion on why or why not they like a game. You sir flat out lie about facts. Hypicrisy at its finest.
