Uh, Oh...

Looks like the new SW MMO from Bioware is going to have some competition at launch in 09.

Interesting, becuse a lot of the appeal of the Pre-CU game system to me was that it was like a lego set, as far as the profession system goes.  You could make pretty much any sort of character you wanted.

According to statements from EA, the Bioware MMO will launch around 2010/2011, not in 2009.

(Edit: should have been 2010/2011, not 2011/2012 )

Could you bring up a link for that statement? Because I've heard various rumors and nothing officially stated......since there has been NO official information on this project.

Guess why we are all looking forward to the 21st?

LINK #1: "towards the back end of the "2007-2011 period"

    LINK#2: "the fiscal 2010/2011"

Both are statements from the CEO of EA. So definitely not 2009, most likely 2011. And we know, MMOs come always later than predicted by the company

    Curious...because I have this: Link 1

So that means EA has asked BioWare to push the thing back? Or they changed their internal target date by two years. Meh. I guess I'm gonna wait for 21st.

Yes, your link is original statement, which said 2009, but they later changed it to 2010/2011. Those, who have followed other games in development, should not be surprised if it gets pushed back still further.

The real long wait starts on Oct 21.

There's still a good chance they can surprise us, they've licensed almost everything from the billing/cust. service tools, the engine and data handling software, there was a quote quite some time ago that one of the BioWare founders said that they had it in a playable state. If it is indeed the mmo, although the Lucas Arts press release was only in 2006, they actually started work in Dec 2005.

Granted there's a lot of if's, but's and maybe's and if I were a gambling man, which I am I'd go with 2010, maybe 2011 at a stretch but I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see some sort of beta towards the middle to end of next year.

I don't realy think it will be in competition from lego universe.

If anything, I would buy The Star Wars game for myself and Lego Universe for my niece. Don't get me wrong, Legos are cool, but I don't think Lego Universe is targeted at us folks who saw the Original Star Wars in the theatres back in 1977. But I could be wrong, I have been before.

    Netdevil...

Why not just mark it FAIL and save yourself some money?

I don't believe Lego Online is going to really compete against KOTOR online.  In short I posted this as a lame attempt at humor.

    As far as dates...

The last I had heard a time frame it was for 09.  If it comes later, oh well.  Of course I hope for sooner than later.  But only as long as it is launched complete and fully funtional.  No rush jobs.

This is LA we're talking about.  They are going to release it whenever they darn well feel like.  Whether it's ready or not.
