Recruiting mercenaries?

I've noticed that there are random playable characters roaming about in some towns. I believe we can actually recruit them, right? How? What's with the dislikes/likes question? Also, what is the difference between recruiting from an NPC and personally recruiting the character?

The way to recruit wandering mercs is by giving them "gifts" for me i tend to just toss em 20k a couple times then they join me. there is no diffrence from recruiting them and buying them from the NPC except some Mercs like Artilleryman cannot be bought from the NPC and can only be recruited. Also Vikings and Monks cannot be bought from the NPC, you can get them from recruiting or by a quest. also they can be sold at market, they are called "sealed orbs" in market.

Also, I think the minimum level for recruiting these wandering mercenaries is level 30. I gave 20k to my artilleryman to join my party. Even higher class mercenaries can be bought from the market, but more often than not, they are pretty expensive. I recommend doing the quests to get them, since they save you money, and gove you experience by doing them.
