Just stick at it. Like anything, it takes practice to get used to. If you're not already in a guild, I would suggest joining one as there will be people who can help you out if you're stuck. WoWwiki is also a great source of information and will probably be able to provide an answer for any problems you may have.
Find a good starter guild that you can level alongside, you will learn a lot from some experienced players and level faster at the same time. A few do's and don'ts;
1: Don't - ask/beg for gold as it will only get you on everyones ignore lists
2: Don't - ask/beg for boosts all the time, again it will just get you ignored
3: Don't - take more than your fair share of guild vault equipment/money
4: Do - contribute items that may be useful to other people if you are in a guild
5: Do - start with Mining/Skinning as your first trade skills as they are easy to level while you play and easy to make money from
6: Don't - select 'need' for items in dungeons/raids unless it has been agreed by everyone, otherwise you may find that you are not invited on many runs again
There is a lot to learn, but that is some of the basics you need to know to get you started and will make you a good character to play alongside
Have fun and good luck.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I think the mistake a lot of new players make in any MMORPG is that they beg for help. The main thing to remember is etiquette and patience. It is important to understand that simply because you are in a guild that people are not obliged to help you, rather they do so out of the goodness of their hearts and as such should not be taken for granted.

Well said, Jason.

He's right. It might be a little intimidating if you're unsure of yourself. Just do it!
