"Yet another band is complaining about John McCain's use of their song to promote his campaign. This time, it's the Foo Fighters.
The rockers sent out a missive telling the Republican presidential candidate to stop using "My Hero." They said they learned it was being use through news reports.
"The saddest thing about this is that `My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential," the band said in a statement. "To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song."
Funny, this has happened to both OBama and McCain. Shouldn't they have to get permission from the bands first, before using their songs?

What other complaints have been generated by other bands? Kind of curious. This is interesting though.

You'd think that anyone running any political campaign would know that they need to secure the rights to play the song at public events before doing so.
This is pretty basic common sense if you're poltically tuned in.
I would think. It's pretty presumptous to use someone's music, even just to entertain the crowd prior to the event, let alone use the music as part of the campaign itself.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

I agree. It's one thing to just play it at an event prior to a speech or something, but to use a song and have it playing in the background in an attack ad on another person, without having permission, is just wrong imo.
Yah it's wrong. It's copyright infringement. It's worse than downloading that same song off limewire.

sue them! lol!
they can make millions out of those presidential candidates. haha!
I guess McCain isn't cool enough for the Foo Fighters... or they want to vote for Obama. Being a presidential candidate though, you should be smart enough to ask permission for things like this, especially since you're high-profile in the media.
Also the song Barracuda (the band ended up sending everything they got from mccain to Obama though)
Also he bought the licensing for the songs, and since the artists signed a contract declaring they turned all the rights over to the publishers... The only thing they can do is make bad press.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Legally speaking, you don't have to ask the Foo Fighters. You have to ask thier Record Label. The Foo Fighters probably don't keep up with all the people that are licensing use of thier song during these deals.
