I'm doing a report on the online gaming market regarding security and protection and I've literally been searching over half a day and can barely come up with anything. Can anyone help me find out the following things?
-How big is the online gaming market? As in, how much revenue does it make per year?
-What are the largest revenue generating companies and how much do they make per year? (2007 earnings?) - I know Blizzard made around 1.1 billion last year.
-Could i find individual revenue values per game?
-Could I find a listing of how many users there are per game?
As far as companies losing money on fraudsters, hackers, private servers, farmers, etc... how could I find out how much companies lose to each type of scam?
What are the biggest problems facing the online gaming industry?
If you can answer any of these or point me in the right direction that would be amazing! Thanks!

The company thats the most up front with sales and revenue is NCSoft.
They publish revenue, sales percentage and sometimes exact subscriber numbers(usually once a year) for all games.
Other companies(like Blizzard) are owned by larger companies so finding reports on revenue and sales can be hard.
A few companies are very secretive and try not to have any reports on anything leak out, Turbine and Sony being well known offenders.
Most companies who have those kind of figures made public if and only if its worth showing in the public. Bragging rights. If you ever owned an MMO with an income of only 5k dollars per month, would you dare show it to the public? So I am suggesting that finding these information would be next to impossible. The closest thing you can get to real thing is an expert opinion.
Don't believe in anything that you see the first time.
I'd love to own something that netted me $5k profit per month!

It'd only be worth that amount if A) it was a hobby game for a group you made it solo
Otherwise you'd be making more on a job that would require the same skill set.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Thanks for all the posts... what about the fraudulent activities that hurt the online gaming industry? Which ones cause the most loss of profits? Such as fraudsters, hackers, private servers, farmers, etc...
And can anyone guess as to how much companies lose to these types of problems?
Thanks
