Down to 2.3million; around a year and a half ago they had a little less than four million.
Mabye JaGeX has finally learned their lesson..

Considering their last update added shields which, according to Jagex themselves, are designed specifically with raiding in mind, I seriously doubt it. With every month that passes by, this game is plunged deeper into a hole, and only Jagex can bring it back out.
I won't hold my breath.
We just have to sit a watch. The rate is growing faster.
Their rate of loss is ever increasing, yet they cannot even make a decent update...are they even aware of their losses?
I am sure they are fully aware, and have been. I do not think they care, I have felt for a while they were driving that game into the ground. I think they are too preoccupied with Mechscape to care. Though that will never draw the numbers runescape did simply because "mech" games has a very limited target audience.
They are aware, but are determined to write the losses off as "casualties of necessary change" or as people who ultimately left for other games. I don't think they have any idea how many of those people actually left over the direct actions of Jagex themselves.
Hmm, too sure about those figures.
If you type in worldofwarcraft.com it gives only 1.2 million visitors which is half of Runescape numbers yet we know how many people play wow (alledgedly spl?)
did it for war too (which i am playing) and it shows only 10k when they have announced 750,000 members?
try it yourselves, there's something wrong there.
No, for WoW you don't have to go to the site to play the game. Because it is downloaded, you can just open it up from your desktop, click that little icon, log in, and begin playing. RuneScape, on the other hand, you have to go onto the site to play the game (due to it being browser based); therefore they are losing players.

Hm good point didnt think of that,.
It still seems strange because i occasionally pop back into runescape and it always seems very busy (much busier than other mmo's i've played).
Well I bet theres actually 1.5mil players because all of the alt accounts.
Its counting all the people that go to the site, so it doesn’t matter if they're playing on an alt account.

Yes it is counting all the people that go to their site, not necessarily even players. Many visit sites for various reasons, not to even play the game. Look at the number of hits on sites that have hardly any players and it is always much larger than their actual player base.
So what is it with you and bumping topics?..
?
Sometiumes it takes me a while to go back and read the posts I missed while I was gone. I get there .. eventually. LOL
A saw in a newspaper last month that they claimed to have had 100 million unique players :P
I'd be suprised if they really had 2 million ACTIVE players, including free ones.
Someone should look them up at companies house, since all their bonuses etc have to be declared as they are a LTD company
Yes, lol they have a habit of " stretching the truth" . LOL Jagex = elastic man! Would have to be to be able to " stretch " that far. LOL
devil, all you do is rant about runescape, you been doing the same thing for over one hole year, which means you are still playing it and probably enjoying it they way it is.
Actually, I do not play they game anymore, but have friends who do. I only go on now and then to assess updates and such, but no, I am not an active player, and no I do not enjoy the game since they put in the trade limits and targeted children.
Well if you don't play it, you have an outdated image of the game which makes you an unreliable source of information.
Personally i am looking forward to their next game.
Considering I just told you I Do log in to assess updates and player opinion of the game, I am kept up to date on the current aspects of the game. Just because I do not actively play the game the way it was meant to be played, does not mean I am not kept up to date on the new aspects to the game. I not only check up on the updates periodically, I also ask current players for their opinions and input. I am not looking forward to their next game, which is called "mechscape". I am looking forward to a better company making a competing similar game that does takes the opposite direction Jagex took with this game. After giving them a decade to polish their game, I have given up on Jagex correcting their mistakes.
Well, MechScape - the project name not the actual name, is designed in a way not to copy cat every mmo out there... So i believe MechScape will bring some fresh air on the MMO scene, maybe we will both play it, who knows
I do not think that a company that has had a decade to work on a game wnad still comes up short would be able to produce a quality game in the short amount of time they have been working on this that will not be outdated by the time of release.
I do not have confidence in this company after seeing what they were able to accomplish in 10 years.
FYI Runescape has a client that can be downloaded.

The Best New Sandbox Game Out There.
Yes, it's just a stripped down browser window.
If "mechscape" doesn't do well (most sci-fi MMOs don't) Jagex will be in for a hard time with their only product in steep decline.
It's been scrapped. They have a new unannounced project in the works
Check out the MUD I'm making!
