It's a nice wish list let's hope all goes well. I have faith in BioWare to make an excellent MMORPG.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

All BS aside, I am hearing it will in fact be the Largest MMORPG ever built.
What? From who?
Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV
That's my dream too.
See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
ITS NOT CALLED KOTOR ITS NAMED THE OLD REPUBLIC NOT KOTOR!!!!!!
Isn't that what they told us about SWG? And SWG largely delivered that until SOE got seduced by WOW profits and decided to ruin the game with the NGE.
As an ex-SWGer, I have yet to find an MMO I can call home. They are all WOW clones now.
That said, if what you said is true, I am looking forward to it.
I hope they don't go cheap side with the graphics. I mean, I don't have to have the best thing ever, but I surely hope they don't go for the WoW/WAR effect, where everything is slightly cartoonish.
Yeah, yeah, I know "But WAR doesn't have cartoon graphics!" To be honest, they look like the step up from WoW graphics, which is indeed cartoony.
I would be happier if they kept a strong art design, with lots of smooth, rich animation over total photorealism. But if they can make both happen, then I'm game!
Anyway, I don't know where in the world the OP got that information... but it seems to me like someone spouting off what they wished SWG would have been. That being said, I personally don't beleive half of what's on that list is what the game is truely about.
I forsee lots of planets to explore, but I don't expect them to be fully realised. However, on the other side of that coin... it's been confirmed that they are using the Hero Engine for the game, which makes level design and overall level production crazy fast. It takes less than half the time to develop a level with the Hero Engine than it does through conventional means. So, it could very well have a crap load of planets to explore, all fully realised. We shall see, though.
So then it is just "TOR"?
Thats cool....

That's exactly what they told us.. lol

Real as Reality Television!!!
what do you all mean by "largest MMO ever" ?
Are you referring to land mass ?
Maybe budget ?
The OP just descirbed the dreams of dreams when it comes to a MMO.
Hauken Stormchaser
I want pre-CU back
Station.com : We got your game
Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
Kotor Online will be on the console and it's using the Hero Engine so the game is going to be all instanced up which is a shame.
The article on Portfolio.com, where EA's CEO mentioned the fact that BioWare's MMO is the LEC/BioWare project, also included him mentioning that BioWare's MMO would "sidestep" the consoles, which I take to mean it is being developed specifically for the PC (and/or Mac) market.
Source of this info? Link?
Due to WoW, MMORPGs have all but abandonned the sandbox, roleplaying features and interdependancy aspects (which some call downtime). It is hard to argue against a game which has attracted 10 million subscribers. My take is that it will still take a few more years until a MMORPG company re-introduces the features SWG had. It is all about PVP, raids and "balance" nowadays.
Helios portrayed the new mentaility in his epic statement: "so you just sat there and it was fun? This is an honest question..." when referring to camps in SWG.

I hope so but Bioware these days have developed for the Xbox first then the PC and they even did this with KOTOR. So it would suprise me if they didn't do anything console based but then again it's harder to do a console mmorpg so we'll see.
Still doens't mean it wont all be instanced tho.
wishful thinking... but the new star wars mmo will be more like wow than swg. bioware will want to make money so the game will be a casual mainstream mmo, guaranteed.
The hero engine has been designed specifically for use on PC, if they had planned to go multiplatform they'd have built it ground up, or possibly use something like the unreal engine. Not saying a console version isn't apossibility but initially it's first and foremost a PC title.
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.
What i hate is when developers mix the two, SWG is a classic example. Like your character vs a squill, to me squills seemed to be from some other game. Or take the darktroopers they are so cartoony and lame compared to the regular stormies. i really don't mind what graphics the new game has as long as they stick to some type of continuity between your character and the rest of the world. Wow graphics can actually be quite nice if you max them. i know i wasn't a fan either till i played it, and the cartoony graphics kind of grew on me. I think they are quite nice now.
I want to see the old Pre-CU game Re-Made in the KOTOR timeline. Minus all the Bugs and Exploits of course. To me there has never been a better game ever made. I loved that game. I would call in sick to work for that game. That game almost made me enter a 12 step program.
I will never get over Pre-CU SWG....and there are about 250k people like me. They should think about that before making a new SW game.
I would love to play a game that fits that wishlist... but I don't think it's going to happen with the Bioware MMO. Whatever this game is, it won't be aimed at 250k customers... it will be aimed at million of customers. To that end, it is almost certainly going to resemble the KOTOR games far more than it resembles a virtual world.
I predict that I will be sorely disappointed.
Note that I am a pessimest by nature...
if it has a great space game, good pvp, and crafting in it, i will be a happy camper
thats a great wishlist, and i wish the game would have those elements and more. but dont get yoru hopes up man, just be openminded. But they did say it would be the largest one to date!!
Whenever you see the worst possible outcome it makes it that much easier to cope when it does actually happen. Plus when something wonderful does happen it makes everything that much better.
Ahh the life of a pessimist.
