Ok this is getting quite strange so I thought of starting a discussion on the subject.
Please can someone explain to me how is it possible that WAR has an awesome 8.83 user rating on this site, and that it is holding steadily for more than 3 weeks after the release and yet if you would go only by threads on this site you'd think that it is the greatest PoS since Vanguard's release?
This is not a slight discrepancy or a glitch. WAR's user ratings on this very site are a full point above the next game and yet the majority of threads are begun with extremely negative views of the game.
Metacritic ratings, which are considered the best and most objective measure of a game's reception are very favorable - WAR is rated as one of the top MMOs, both in critic and user ratings. In fact from its compound score you could argue that it is the best rated MMO at the moment.
So how is this possible?
I mean many other games had ridiculously high ratings and great reviews initially but a few weeks would be enough to expose their weaknesses and ratings would start falling to reflect the true state of the game. With WAR I don't see this happening yet which does say something about the game's quality. I'd be safe to say that we won't see any large or sudden drops in ratings - after 3 weeks they should be pretty much stabilized. So what's with all the constant stream of hate?
Comments
i do not see streams of hate i see people disappointed in a long hyped game that ended up not being
what it was hypes to be
i see in the pod cast as war is every where (i think world pvp is everywhere) i get the game war is in
scenarios and rvr lakes not in the actual world of the game
Hmm...RvR lakes are in the actual world of the game.
Hmm...
Critics of a MMO are ALWAYS more vocal that supporters.. Suporters will happilly click the buttons to vote on what they like or if they like a game.. But take the time to post? Hell no.. We have High Elves to kill my god! LOL
Whereas critics arn't playing.. Dont get how Anyone could posibly like the game they dont like.. and are bored..
Funny thing is.. Most of the people playing the game dont read their posts anyway.. They only get a few posts from folks who happen to be on the forums who are playing.. Or support from others who equally hate the game..
And that would be why the rateings are better to go by.. Of course.. There will be someone who will say that its actually because the game rateings system cheats or is bought off or is scewed in some way I am sure..
Oh and Hardcore member means you log in to this site regularly.. Doesnlt mean you post alot..
Hmm...RvR lakes are in the actual world of the game.
Hmm...
how do you see the rvr lakes as the world they are large empty zones with timesink objectives in them
they are not where the towns, warcamps pr even where most of the players are.
would someone please explain Mythics purpose of the RVR lakes as all they have been to me is a place
to go take an undefended keep undefended objectives and to chase down ( or flee after them) the rare
enemy i see im them (also wonder why warcamps are not capturable if we could kill or kidnap the quest
giver that gives the quest for scenarios i bet we would have some pvp)
edit- also wonder why i get a death sickness in rvr lakes but not in scenarios just seems anotger way to
make rvr less fun example would be running back to a keep halfway there i realize i didn't heal now do i go
and fight and die quicker or turn around and go heal i would rather do a damage hit to gear and repair
after i am done having fun
Beside the posters here there is either Trolls, othergame- fanboys or just plainly misinformed posters we have the hardcore gamers.
chances are if you have something truly against WAR you are a very hardcore player. One that have grown used to expect certain things in a certain way in "your" mmo to satisfy your need to be serius commited to that one game. It's strange that the "war is not for everyone" statement that was used alot prerelease in topics here actual now describe hardcore players.
One thing i have realised about WAR is that it is maybe the most causal friendly MMO yet to be released. Causual friendlyness doesn't come without a price. The price that hardcore players is telling in alot of topics. One of guild wars creators said something along the line about that you should not be afraid of having angry players as that showed that people actual did care and was deeply involved in your game. What you should do was listen to them, but accept the fact that you can't make everyone happy, because then you might have a borring game . I think mythic do deal with that pretty well so far.
From a causul players point of view War is a very very good game! And I think that whats the ratings reflect right now! If you disagree fine with me, but i think you then don't give credit where credit is in order. If you are a hardcore gamer that for some reason did not fit perfect into the gameeksperience WAR do give, chances are that your frustration is about a good game that could just have been that much better for you if just.... x was different! And thats a very good sign, shoving a healthy game, hopefully getting even better as mythic manage to "not make everyone happy".
I have moved from being hardcore to causual simply because time don't allow me the luxury of long hours gaming that much and that often anymore. And taking my "hardcore" glasses on there is plenty things that is driving me nuts in this game. Mainly because of the potential of it being even better. But as a causal player I don't care because I am looking forward to the fun I know I will have in the next gaming session.

My brand new bloggity blog.
Some people can't stand that another game is popular and thus feel like they have to pretend their "enemy game" isn't good. There's also an influx of inexperienced MMO players (often people who've only played World of WarCraft, and weren't there at launch), who are genuinely surprised that the game isn't as polished as a game that's been out for years, and think their own game was any better at launch, though it was actually horrid.
Because every gameboard on this site has 3 or 4 rabid haters with atleast 2 or more alts and they will stop at nothing to badmouth a game. The right which they think comes along with the 15$ month sub.
Its called nerd rage.
A lot of the early voting was based on the 'hype' of world RvR and things that were planned, but did not really turn out that way.
Everyone thought RvR was going to be the dominate part of the game, with PVE and scenarios as little 'side events'.
The actual gameplay is completely different though. On most servers, the majority of players pve while waiting for scenarios to proc. The additions of 'que where you are' has made scenerios the easiest and fastest way to level. It takes much more effort to run to the 'lakes' and find them empty. if you que for a sceanrio, you will get to pvp rather quickly and it's more convenient than having to run across the map.
There is also the problem with imbalances. On most server, one side completely dominates RvR... which makes the losing side not even try (just que for scenarios, you are guaranteed an even match). The new addition to help balance the sides will not help RvR.. instead it will just more greatly reward players who que for scenarios. They still aren't going to RvR..they'll just level in scenarios even faster.
I think that everyone that are really enjoying the game are too busy to take the time and write good comments about the game.. They are playing !
Of course, all the haters aren't playing WAR, neither do they play AoC or WoW cause they're bored with every other games as well... They're waiting for the next big game that will make them happy... Which probably won't come in a while since all the major releases are done for the year... So meanwhile, you can find them here posting about their emotions and feelings about a game they probably didn't even gave a real chance..
WAR is awesome and deserve the positive ratings.. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a shot, and AFTER your free month, you can come back on the forums and flame on it if you didn't liked it.. I think a month is a good amount of time to decide wether or not you like the game, classes, content, community, etc...
SOE listened almost exclusively to its "hardcore" playerbase after it took over EQ and we all know where that led them. One thing I will Blizz credit for is making a game that is actually a ridiculous hardcore faction/rep, etc grind and make it appear to many as tho it is a casual friendly game.
Bottom line, the majority of gamers prefer games that lean toward casual as opposed to hardcore. That is where the $$$ is folks. Like it or not. I am a casual gamer, so I love it.
I too was disappointed when I crossed an invisible line and the sand. All of the sudden my face meltage stopped working, and I was getting a message saying I couldn't attack.
Apparently I'm smarter than you. I rerolled on an Open RvR server and it was MIRACULOUS. Problem solved.
Call me Capt. Obvious, but maybe you should give it a try.

Quite simply.. I cbf writing 'defence' posts to each an every rage post here. I'd rather just play the game and have fun with other likeminded people.
