Wasn't it 3rd person view for melee and 1st person view for ranged ?
Yea i was under the impression that this was the case...specifically a very tight third person view to allow for people to sneak up on your back.
Yep you are both correct. 1st for magic ranged and when you have your weapon sheated. tight 3rd person for melee and free look 3rd person when on mount (Means you can move the camera independantly of your body)
Mods are an essential part of the gaming community. It allows for customization of your UI, group bars, and countless other things that give the players a sense of freedom with the game. It also helps the developers know what would be a good change to the game from the majority of the playerbase using certain mods. If you are all for freedom in an MMO, and in Darkfall, than why would limiting mods bring you said freedom.
if it keeps the game fair, and the minimal ui works, not being able to use ui mods is not that big of a deal in my opinion.
Im sure if enough people petition for some UI feature, the developers will try to make it happen.
keeping the client as unhackable as possible is very important to keep the world fun and immersive.
The inventory could use a mod, Its not very well organized as it stands right now. Granted it is still in beta and not the final product.

If you have played UO then you should know the functionality of that unorganized mess. If you have something valuable in your pack for w/e and are transporting it, you cover it up with as much junk as you can. The reason for this is in the hopes that if your killed and looted you may have a chance at getting it back due to the ammount of time it would take to move all that junk off the top of it. We use to use ore and other heavy items to keep from being pick pocketed. They would have to move it first which with how heavy it was alerted us. And if the skill sets anything similar to UO there may be a pick pocketing skill. I hope there is lol we don't have the skill list though so no idea.
I got a bit scared when i read Stayontargets post about the inventory. Is there still people not knowing what kind of game this is? Or is this gonna be exactly as when the Wolverine fans went and saw Hugh Jackman on Broadway.....nothing as they expected?
Myself hope that Darkfall will be a major wakeup call for many people. There is more then WoW-clones to MMORPGs.

Relax daarco, I just pointed something out and I got an answer for it being the way it is. Just informing me on why the dev's desided to do the inventory in this manner.
Because I question the direction and style of the game does not mean I want this game to fail....If DF becomes a big hit, then the big winners will be the gamers.

This one is clearly a 3rd person view, fixed near the character, but 3rd person. They will probably have 1st and 3rd, being the 3rd like this one, near and fixed so we can't cheat with it.
The reason for the first person veiw (everything but melee) and the close (over-the-shoulder) view (melee), is in order to enhance the natural stealth. If your character is facing one way, than someone behind you knows that you can not see them. Thus, they know that they can try to sneak up on you. In a game that wants to enable sneaking, without a magic invisibility button, this kind of view is essential. Edit: if you want to see your character so badly, view your character in your equip screen. You can't see yourself IRL so seeing yourself in game detracts from immersion, imo.
For it to be fair, then you should be able to hear movement. Twigs snapping, underbrush rustling that sort of thing. Now thats immersion.
I'm sure there will be an equipment screen. You can see yourself there. Or you can ask your boyfriend if your butt looks to big in those leather chaps.

Yes I agree with you there. That would truely be whicked. It's small details like that, that can make a game truely epic. You can hear footsteps in DF but I sadly doubt twigs snapping and underbrush.

I think it would be very hard indeed for any mmo game to code something like this in. but in large groups the sound would be unbearable.

I am totally against player mods.
As others stated it opens the door for cheat mods and then there is the fine line between botting and actually using your skills and applying a thought process to your actions in a timely fashion. Mods are a lazy way of completing tasks and not everyone has access to the same mods or possesses the ability to create sophisticated mods so it becomes an unfair advantage.

Yeah I agree there, but it would still be bad arse lol. I mean your out chopping wood or something. Suddenly a twig snaps you spin around just in time to parry the assasins blade and decapitate him with your axe. That would truely be epic. But with large groups as long as it isn't to loud shouldn't be to bad and it would be awsome sitting around chatting with a bud to suddenly hear an army marching through the woods lol.

I wonder who is gonna have the better reflexes, a lumberjack, or an assassin, hmm.
