I'm going to start building the server client and I'm looking for input from fans. It's a long way away, and a labor of love, but I don't think it should be too hard (talk about the under statement of all time :P )
Any inputs and ideas are welcome, make sure to go to the facebook page and suggest the stuff you want. The more input I get the more I can make it what the fans want.
I thinking an OpenGL client based on libSDL so it will run on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux / Unix.
And I want to write the server from the ground up in C, so it's ultra portable and fast!
I don't know if there's much to work with there in Macross for an MMO. It would work much better as a single player action/adventure title or a 3rd person multiplayer shooter. But for an MMO, you need variety, and the world and parameters are just too constraining.
First off, you typically need a multi-faceted panoply of villains. Macross is just too monolithic, being that there's just one enemy (the Zentradi). Furthermore, there isn't much variety in how you fight Zentradi; you typically board a 50' tall mecha and just duke it out. There is no "classes" per-se, no specializations and no way to make your mecha pilot unique from any other one in a meaningful sense.
The one place where it would be cool is the roleplay aspect of hanging out in Macross City and the SDF-1 (and other places), falling in love, having interpersonal dramas with bridge bunnies, falling victim to Meltrani assasins and spies. However, that kind of roleplay isn't something we tend to enjoy anymore.

3 directors and two studios later movie is still in the planning phase lol. Yeah We may never see anything to do with Robotech, and Harmony Gold who owns the rights, is ****
Yes not only that it's has a lot of dispute of copyright with battletech, and with macross too because it share a lot of similar robot assets. and yeah a robotech mmo won't see the light of day. I think a gundam mmo would probably a better possibility than a robotech one. (and I mean real gundam mmo that is not arena)

Hi all...
I too am a HUGE Robotech fan, and I have searched high and low for MMORPG and found nothing, so.... I've decided to write one.
Check out http://www.robotechmmorpg.com (under construction so pardon the dust!)
