my server is medium/medium as are the majority in the game.  Also a few high/high.  So, I guess I am saying I think there are a good amount of players as of now...maybe the OP is trying to say the game will grow even more in the months ahead.

  • It is simply a fact that a server without a good population sucks.

We realize these things just fine, but Mythic's Catch-22 is not my problem.  At least once I cancel its not my problem.

This is very true actually. I think WAR has plenty of potential. However for me personally I dont think I will be resubscribing when my free month is up. The open RvR aspect just seems meaningless at the moment which was the most appealing part for me. Lack of communication is a big issue to. I think this game could be great in the future though.

That is acutally false, if there's enough people to play and siege altdorf there's plenty of people. Theres TOO MANY servers and it spreads out the population. I think there are ALOT of people playing the game, but when there's so much servers to choose from it makes it seem like WAR dont have so many people playing.

Actually you're completely right and I take it back. The "this has potential" statement can be applied to any faulty or poor product. It actually doesnt mean anything.

The fact remains that the game design itself is just stupid and that will NEVER change. Why make a game about war and then allow the players to teleport into seperate little rooms where they can have little mini team battles? Battlefield 2142 does that much better and you dont have to pay a monthly fee for it.

You need to realize that many MMORPGs have their peak populations at launch, and decline from there.

    Just sayin'.

And to support this.  Warhammer has dropped to #72 on the sales list, which means it's not likely that new players are going to be coming any time soon.

AOC, AC2, LoTRO and just about every game besides WOW that has been launched in the past 5 years has seen it's 'peak'  at launch.  The only game besides WOW I can think of is EVE that has increased in populations.. but that's because it didn't have a big, hyped launch.

Besides the history above, Warhammer also has two other things going against it.  The industry average is about a 25% drop after the free month, and again,  new boxes aren't being sold right now so there aren't going to be players replacing those departing players.  The other big thing is the release of Wrath on Nov 13, which will have some impact on Warhammer.

I understand why some have to make excuses for a game but Warhammer is not going to get anywhere successful. The first numbers might look good but the drop rate will be HUGE and I can understand why.

Making a game today is not like it was 3½ years ago when WoW came out and had to battle a few other MMOs. Games today HAVE to be spot on! No bull... not too many bugs... no boring areas... no useless quest logs or pointers. You see, Warhammer is going up again some very good games and you don't get many second chances anymore. If your game sucks you lose and people won't come back.

I know I won't because I feel Warhammer fakked things over. They promised loads of things which are nowhere near the game today and that sucks.

If it ain't dead you're not pressing 2 hard enough.

    Which sales list is that?

I don't doubt it but I am interested to see where you can check this.

Also there is a large crop of AAA titles being released soon, some of which will most likely be of exceptionally high quality (due to the sheer number).  That means there will be serious competition at Christmas for peoples money.

I agree with what Mike_L says.  If any developer wants to gather a large amount of repeat subs then they had better make damn sure that their game is 100% finished at launch, almost completely bug free and has really good and diverse gameplay,  This should not be an impossible task but it means that they can't release it too early like all the recent mmorpgs have done.

  • UrrellesUrrelles Member Posts: 574

I believe Warhammer will be just as successful or even moreso than Guild Wars.  It has all the PvP depth that guild wars has with an open world feature.  Guild wars was free, but sitll required people to by $40 - 50 dollar expansions every six months just to stay up to date.

Warhammer is not here to compete against WoW.  That is what the devs have been saying many times in interviews.  They are here to provide a different experience or focus in gameplay.  It focuses on PvP.  They are competing against Guild Wars.

This game is successful, no matter how much people want it not to be.  age of Conan is also successful right now since they have people resuscribing.  Both WAr and AOC will not die out and shut down their servers.  If Vangard can still survive, WAR can too.

    Not sure why it matters.

Anyways yea MMO's always explode at launch I think thats logical. War had TONS of hype and thats the ONLY reason its seeing these sub numbers. Problem is War does not have staying power, the numbers will be dropping drastically

  • melmoth1melmoth1 Member Posts: 762

Actually, it doesn't matter as much if the server reads med/med or high/high; what counts if the actual feeling of being part of a buzzing server, where there is constant activity and the feeling of being part of a large mmo community (NOT JUST YOUR GUILD I emphasize in bold).

I had to re-start WAR twice because their idea of med-med played like a dead server.

Now I am on high-high and that's better, much better. But it still doesn't feel "buzzing" because of the way the game has been set-up with scenarios etc.

I still like the game for now, but the critics of this game do have valid concerns regarding the way that the scenarios seem bleed the game of players and leave the rest of the word feeling empty.

I will give it one sub beyond my free month and then see if things improve.

So you have to realize that many of the so-called 'hater' posts have been relatively tame and focused compared to magma-heated hate you saw for AOC only 2 months ago (which has cooled now).

WAR is a much better game than AOC was, and probably is right now. I don't think the game is going to implode. WAR will still be around in a year, I can't say I believe the same for either of Funcom's games.

The other guy is right about the games that have released recently. It seems like everything that began development shortly after WoW and before WoW dramatically altered the MMO landscape has been unable to adapt enough. It should be interesting to see how Bioware and 38 Studios' efforts compare, since they began development quite late comparatively.

WAR has not lived up the hype so far, dont get me wrong, i like the game but its not what i thought it was gonna be and i will admit i was veeery excited about it coming out, what i have seen so far just has not riled my feathers, i have 2 characters on 2 servers and its kinda the same on each. My main problems are people doing PUBLIC quests themselves, people not really talking and the mobs running away and coming back at full health but i'm sure they will fix these problems but as of now i will not susbcribe after the 30 days

You idiots put so much dedication to your population e-peen gangbang, it's getting to point of a pure geek-off and a bad representation of MMORPGs. Just look at yourselves, you are all creating this sterotypical assface that will follow the real MMORPGs who do not deserve it around like no other. In other words, you all here argueing and trying to achieve next high score of your pissing contest aren't playing the games, naaah.. you create the game yourselves on these forums. Seriously, never in any genre (even as far as MMOFPS) has there ever been a community of pre-teen freaks that await for their new game released just so they can bitch and moan about it countless hours of the week. I actually do believe a Myspace MMORPG would bring a hell of a lot better community than majority of modern dedicated MMORPGers.

And yet you guys wonder why the hell Mythic did not create a dedicated forum for their game.

This right here is why I continue to goto this forum, so I know what not to become. Good day, losers.

I agree with Neon here.  The game wasn't bad, and I honestly hope they do well as the team seems to love the game and the ideas behind it.  For me, it didn't feel much different than hopping on BF or CoD4 in all honesty.  At the end of the day, it's a fun game for about 45 minute stints, but for me, it has no lasting power.

To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!
