 To play the free trial you do need a Credit Card number. A Debt Card number might also work too. BUT to continue to pay to play AO, you do not have to pay by Credit Card. For example, I used a Credit Card number to sign up. But I pay using Money Orders. There are also many other ways to pay to play AO. I guess requiring Credit Cards as "ID" makes it a bit harder for players to have ulimited multi-accounts.

When I bought the game and installed it, I did not need to put in financial information.  If it's still the same, you have to put in your personal information and choose a subscription plan, but you do not have to put in your cc info.  If you have not supplied that information by the time your free trial runs out, you will just be locked out of the game.

Doh, nevermind. He said AO.

The 15 day free trial for Asheron's Call 2 doesnt require credit card info. All they asked for was an email address.
