Recently switched to Vista64 in order to max out my RAM on a new PC.

As a bit of a 'DOS Freak', I was shocked to discover many of my favourite command line programs don't work on a 64bit operatinf system (including my favourite editor PWB), but I have almost recovered.

Vista64 certainly cured all my graphics & performance lag issues with Warhammer, plus the new PC is great for my day job too, so I am very happy with it so far.

Vista Home Premium 64, Vista Home Premium 32, Windows XP Home, and Linux-Ubuntu. I put my vote for Vista, I love Vista, best thing ever. No bugs what-so-ever, they've all been taken care of luckily.

Personally I will trust MY own experiences over any computer magazine.

I know its odd but I think people should decide things based on personal experience... over anything anyone else, a forum post or a magazine tries to tell them.

I used Windows XP X64 and Vista Ultimate 64 on a dual boot setup. Vista was added to dabble in directX 10 (needed it for work, using the Cryteck2 engine). But I still use Xp x64 until i trust vista more...no major problems overall for both OS's

Vista's only problems are on the corporate and development/programming side, where it is absolutely horrible, but that doesnt affect 99% of home PC users.

As far as 99% of home pc users, they aren't GAMERS, either, so guess what?  Mac or Linux would work just as well for them.

I dont preach off of magazines either, I am an IT guy, and spent 2 years taking courses on XP, Mac OSX, Linux (mainly Ubuntu and Fedora) and Vista...thats where I preach from.

Believe me, I love Linux, I'd have thrown everything Windows away long ago if Linux had the proper driver support, but I'm not willing to use Linux as my main OS when I'm going to be running half my programs through an emulator, and losing 30% FPS in every game I play (emulator or not)...my computer has FC9 as a dual boot right now.

As for XP..well I've used it for years, don't really notice much difference when you have a comp above the Vista spects, except that multi-tasking and emulation is slightly faster...but not really that noticeable unless you're doing heavy duty stuff (maybe running fraps in a game with background programs running)...but when XP came out don't you remember all the bitching and complaining...it was labled "Xtra Problems" by the people who now praise it and frown upon Vista, who sure enough will be praising Vista and moaning about Windows 7 when it comes out...And anything Mac is just lol, mac users are just....smug.
