It's a top-down and firstperson real-time-stragety MMOG.
You build bases, add defenses. Your bases mine tibrium for you while you are offline, you can log on, sell it, then buy more "jitter packs" which give you cool new stuff to defend/attack with. You can go on raids and attack other's colonies, but it's tough to beat the defenses unless you have 2+ people with you. It can be done solo though, with enough time and good units. Similarly, the good units are all rare...So this will involve many hours of "harvesting" bases of tritium approx every 15 minuets. You don't have to of course...But you'll lose everything you worked for if you don't.There are 4 factions, and you can't attack your own faction. You can only get jitters made by the corperation you "work" for, the rest must be gained through conquest or trade.
On that note: This is _NOT_ a game for casual players. Unless you can spend many hours per day in the game harvesting trib, buying jitt packs, tradeing for rares, and going on group assaults...you won't get into a good MDN. If you don't get into a good MDN someone WILL sooner or later take over all your bases, leaveing you with one base that is protected on logout. Which will then be taken by another MDN's massed assault. You see colony defense in this game dosen't work unless there's someone there to protect it.....Ergo you must spend much tme in-game every day to protect your colonies. You can be a successful casual player, but you will only ever have one base (a "one-baser"), many experianced players with plenty of cash already opt for this style of play....They can attack your bases, and unless you can organize an instant-strike force to assault them while they are logged on, you can't hurt them back. To take a well turreted base solo with 0 defenders will require about 2 hours and a few good sets of units, it's not easy either. To take the kind of base a newbie can make...you need a set of crappy units and mabey 15 minuets. Don't leave protection status(level to 10) before you have several good sets of turrets in your main base as well as enough to establish a couple of good bases. Until then make crap bases with newbie turrets and harvest trit from them a few hours a day.
The price is 9.95$ a month, and the user base is pretty decent. This game was released in 1998, so the graphics are dated, but not bad. It used to be a SEGA game before they canceled it, now it's run by "two guys in a garage with a lot of love".
The community is mostly decent, but the game attracts alot of griefers(Because you can destroy someone's base and take everything they have earned over months of play, as well as the high time requirment-which griefers thrive on)

That sounds pretty cool, there should be more MMO's like these >.<

Well there's a dam good reason there aren't. It didn't make enough money for SEGA to contuine the service.
It's a hard-core only game, it's a PvP game, it's got very high stakes for loseing, and there are meta-balance issues(all the hardcore players went to 2 factions, now if you aren't on one of those 2 factions you are garuenteed to get R0xx0red by the uber 6-MDN 50+ player groups on one of those uber factions)
All of these things have proven to be very unpopular in MMORPGs(No matter what you whiney griefers want to cough up about "nobody doing PVP right", you are all delusional idiots.) and they weren't popular in this game either.
So SEGA produced a professional-quality MMOG, released it, and it died a quick death. (2 years) Sure it may cater to some people's tastes, but not enough. That's why you see so many EQ clones...Plenty of people willing to play non-pvp games or low-stakes pvp games, hardly anyone wants what the whiney griefers want, high stakes free-for-all pvp.
Obviously Xira wasnt to successfull at Project Visitor. This game rocks. All bases can be destroyed solo. O tho it is better to raid in groups. And if your in a good MDN, you wont lose your stuff like this dude is talking about. Prolly didnt know how to build a camp and got ownt. gg. Try it out ppl. www.projectvisitor.com
