Its not uncommon for server populations to drop shortly after the release of a new game.  Mythic is not worried over this I'm sure.  It happens to all mmorpgs.  Its expected.  There is a honeymoon phase where a huge surge of people swarm the servers once a new game is finally released.  Lots will stay, lots will leave.  War may dwindle down to a few servers eventually (not soon if ever) but it will be around a long time.

Well, I was playing on Phoenix Throne, Skull Throne and Azazel, and the populations never really changed and were always high. Even at one in the morning we could still get into scenarios very quickly.

    What servers may I ask?

I haven't noticed any population drop on Eltharion which seems to be one of the most highly populated EU server (if not most populated), but when I was browsing today at the servers to see where I would make my alt I noticed that most servers were low/medium instead of medium/medium or medium/high. So yeah, I think a few server merges would be in place (but then again, I felt that there were too many servers anyways since day one).

Slight dropoff in my medium sized guild (from 20-25 on a night, to 15-20ish), but overall Ulthuan server is doing well.   Dest has a numbers advantage but nothing that Order has not been able to overcome.   Tier3 last weekend RvR was constant mayhem in the evenings with hundreds battling.

Of course there will be a drop off, it no longer has that new game smell.

Nope, I'm actually seeing more guild members being online this week than the last couple.

  • If there is not an obvious difference in the next week I will be astounded.

Even with a really generous 75% retention the population is so spread out that 50% of the servers will take a real hit.

Many low pops will probably just plain die

doesn't mean game is dying 75% retention would be great, but it does show how badly population has been managed.

    Azazel.

Had ques on order side about 1.5 weeks ago. Have not had a que in over a week.

T3 Scenarios seem to pop about every 5-10 minutes now instead of instantly like before the recent patch.

Never even see a (FULL) que on destro side any more.

After the free 30 days is up ( on the 18th I believe) I AM SURE THERE WILL BE A DIP ON MOST SERVERS.

It wasen't really bad managment they just over estimated how many people where going to be playing the game by a fair bit, EU wise they probably have 10-15 to many servers atm.

I consider it bad because they almost instantly tried to fix queues but have not even said what they will do about the low populations server.

The low population servers were an extremely serious issue within the first week far more serious than queues.  I posted a thread here about it within i think 5 of the pre-release.

Mythic has done nothing for the issue and probably made it worse with the XP bonus.  They had three weeks to do something, to say something.

They haven't.  They failed completely on one of there Top 3 issues.  Therefore they managed it very badly.

This game is nothing without a server with a decent population.  It is a highly mediocre game with out that population.  They let 25% of their player base play a mediocre game for 4 weeks.  The problem was apparent after a week.  That is bad

too funny.  are you trying to tell us, that all the people who bought the game and tried it out and wont be playing after giving the game a shot are all going to be playing up until the very last minute of their free month ?  building up a character in an MMO they dont ever intend on playing again ?  the players who quit are most likely NOT playing at all anymore.  To suggest they are going to play right up until the end of their free month and the losses wont be noticeable until the free month is 100% officially up -- is in a word, comical.

Not really, well atleast on the Order side. My server used to be Med/High usually now its just Med/Med.

The population on my server is increasing. If you wait next to the new toon spawning areas you will always see new rank 1s coming in.

What probably happened is that some people just transferred servers because their friends played in a different server or they realized when they played sometimes it was uneven (the ratio from order to destruction) .

That doesn't really mean much I rolled an alt a few days ago and guess what most of the others there where the same just alts from people already playing.

I played on Averhiem it was full/full now its med/med with what appears to be a population tanking hard.

My main is a shaman stuck in the t3 scene grind. I cant do that anymore (not because of the nerf but really how many scenes can a peep realistically do before they go kk thats enough no more) and theres noone in pq's and noone in rvr but the rare guild charging through unopposed and pve for shamans is so f'in painful.

So I started a sorc last night. In the few hours I was on, I only seen 1 other person. Sad, the game is 1 month old and that starter area was a dead zone on a formerly full/full server.

So I took Mark Jacobs for his word when he said, if you dont like it vote with your wallet.  I cancelled my account.

Like I have said in many other threads I believe X-fire is very good are trending individual games (be careful with any cross comparisons).

As I also have said at a launch you will have a surge in player activity - new subs and each individual player plays like mad. After that you will have a slump - some people quit (for whatever reason) and the people that like the game play slightly less than during the first 2 weeks.

After that new subs will start to out grow attrition and the game will grow to an unknown level of steady state subs (and this number is close to impossible to predict).

I believe Mythic went over board with the amount of servers at release which was a mistake. Having said that Warhammer has passed the initial slump and is this week growing in player activity (week to week comparison) again - after the release bump. So all looks good and I would just hang in there since the servers will fill out. If you really hate your current population - reroll. A two week investment in a game is nothing.

To be honest there are too many political views on these Boards - either you want a game to succeed or you want it to fail (why would anyone want that - but whatever floats your boat). X-fire is a nice calm objective measure in the middle of that menure.

I'm not sure that this will come true at the current rate unless people choose one of the few full servers.  If the med/low servers are anything like my main server and the few others I have tried, the lower tiers are just to empty to encourage people to play the game.

If the servers start to fill out that would be great.  That is my number one issue with the game is that there just are not many people to play with at low levels.

Theres deffinetely a big down turn in population today it's 7.15pm and there's only 1 order and 6 destro servers with high population theres even some destro with the xp bonus now.

At launch my server was Med/High Order/Destru, and now it's Med/Med. I think a lot of ex-WoWers had unrealistic expectations when they joined WAR, somehow expecting it to be as polished as a game that's gone through 4 years of polishing. As the new patch with WotLK talents, achievement system and other stuff was just launched yesterday, this is likely to be a huge draw back to WoW for this crowd. Some people will also have a running subscription for both games, and will at least temporarily log into WoW to check out the new stuff. You'll see something similar happen, but on a greater scale, when Wrath of the Lich King launches. The whole PvE raiding scene isn't for me, though, so I'm going to stick with WAR. I find it much more fun to combat other players. I love the dark setting as well, which is a nice change from the Disney/anime style of the WoW graphics (apart from being a huge graphical upgrade technically).

Destro, but my identity must remain secret for your own safety =p

My post is actually selfish in nature.  I've been in mmo's where the server I've chosen starts out really good and then tanks -- not that it becomes a ghost-town, but it's not as "alive" as one of the higher pop servers.

It used to be when I sorted the servers both by Desto and Order populations, Ironfist was one of the servers at the top end of the server lists -- for the last 2 nights, it's now kind of in the middle.  I assume that means that the population has dropped relative to other servers, or other servers grew?

Wasteland and Vortex ,for example,  sorted higher in the list of core servers last ngiht by Destro (and Order) population.  I've been thinking of jumping ship--easier to do it now when the game is still young and before I set up roots on my current server.

Eh, enough conjecture, I figure time will tell soon enough.  Thank you all for posting your intelligent replies.  I had not thought about the possibility of ppl just simply spending less time in game Vs quitting.

    They all left.

    They Phear Joo!!

looks like you're getting some love.

they just announced some new servers for the xp bonus

I would like to state that in no way shape or form that anything I receive from SOE influences my opinion about SWG or their company. I’m pretty much a typical average player enjoying the game.
