Greetings! This is the Atlantica Development Team based in South Korea.

It’s our pleasure to launch this new section in the forums where we can meet and discuss various topics about Atlantica with you, gamers from all over the world.

For our very first post, however, we couldn’t decide what the subject should be. What could we kick this new section off with? Should we talk about Atlantica’s future and vision? Or maybe we could discuss the new content that we have planned for future releases?

But since this is our first post, we thought we’d start with the basics and introduce ourselves to you. But don’t worry, we’ll be getting to those other topics in the future, since we’ll constantly be adding new posts, all in an effort to build a rapport and relationship with you.

First off, since the Atlantica Development Team is probably new to you, we can tell you that we have been developing games for more than 15 years, gaining more recognition and finding bigger successes as those years have passed. It started in 1992, when we developed our first RPG title, “Night Master.” That was followed by the real-time strategy “Imjinrok” series, which proved to be a big hit in Korea. Prior to Atlantica, our MMORPG portfolio consisted of “Merchant Prince, “Time N Tales,” and “Luminary: Rise of the GoonZu.” In short, our team is one of the oldest and biggest, having developed a great number of titles in Korea.

Also, the games we have created over the years have been strategy games based on history and economics. But prior to “Luminary,” our games were often based on the history of the Korean Middle Ages, so gamers outside the country rarely had the opportunity to get to know our games. With “Luminary,” we felt it was time to expand the scope of our games, away from strictly Korea to the whole wide world, where gamers from all over would enjoy our games. Atlantica was born with this goal in mind.

A Dream 15 Years In The Making

Creating games incorporating history and economics is part of our dream to develop games that resemble the world and us as humans. Technical difficulties and other barriers have prevented us from achieving that dream the last 15 years. But through trial and error over that time, we’ve gotten closer. And now with Atlantica, we think we’ve overcome those difficulties and built something singularly unique in the gaming world.

But when we first announced that we had produced a strategic, turn-based game in Atlantica, we heard from many naysayers telling us turn-based action is out of date, and that we could never reach an audience beyond here in the East and unite with cultures of the West with a game like Atlantica.

But we stuck to our vision and our plans, and in less than one year after its release, Atlantica has ranked 6th in popularity, beating out other blockbuster titles. This has changed the views of many in Korea. And now we’ve signed a service contract with Chinese publisher The9, which is also the Chinese publisher of WoW. And in August, the game was launched at the Chinajoy game convention in Shanghai. In Japan, Nexon, which is famous for publishing “Maple Story,” has taken on Atlantica, and it’s been in closed beta as of Sept. 30. Atlantica also reached number 1 in the most highly anticipated game category of the famous webzine 4Game Japan (www.4gamer.net).

As our adventures have expanded beyond our home in Korea, now your adventures in the game will also expand, into areas like North and South America, Oceania, and the North and South Pole, as you try to reach the lost land of Atlantis, all the while discovering secrets and experiencing new adventures along your journey.

Atlantica may have been out for less than a year, but at its foundation are 15 years of dreaming on the part of the development team. Now we’re thrilled to be sharing this dream of ours with you, gamers from around the world.
