Now THAT is what I call a gameplay Video. Many thanks for FINALLY showing us something like this.

While i still maintain my doubts about the issues I have adressed in other posts, I hope the silly discussion about Vaporware will at least finally subside and I have received a large boost in confidence that the game -will- actually release soon.

No guarantees, but a Aventurine's credit went up a good deal in my eyes.

    Cheers!

    Nice find.  Thank you

Anyone notice the first person view at around 4:00.  He draws the bow back takes aim and fires. Knocks the guy off the mount and the mount is running around ^^ Good stuff.

The UI looks fine to me. As long as it is functional and does the job. =) Yeah should be a winner . Have to wait a see a bit longer though. I am going to going to say  "Soon" and jinx the whole thing lol.

Here it is, an actual person playing the game. WANT FRIES WITH THAT?!?!?!? Even the animations look sweet, it's my MMO wet dream coming true.

I'm overflowing with fanboyism today, even more than usual.

They obviously photoshooped pitures of ui over many different staged pics and just ran they very fast to give your eye the impression that it looks like a fully functionaly game

Believe me guys I know someone from pixar and he said things like this can be done

at least theres a look at the UI being used. looks pretty simple. I as well still have my doubts about this game. But its starting to take form i see.

There have been pictures and videos of the UI for as long as I can remember, I don't know how that started going around that there wasn't.

    it looks terrible.

Thanks for the link to the video.  Couple quick comments and/or questions come to mind.

    1. The person playing seemed to be in 3rd person view quite a bit of the time as well as 1st person view.  Does this mean that we will be able to switch view from 3rd person to 1st person now?

I ask because I thought not to long ago they had said it would be only 1st person view.  I'm hoping it's both 1st person and 3rd person... nice to have both views.

    2.  I'm hoping they have add some sort of a "loot all" type of a feature... at least for NPC kills anyway.  That scene of the player dragging and dropping each item one by one from the loot window into the backpack... that might get to be very tedious after the 100th time.

    3. On the subject of the UI... what were those little rectangular boxes that keep popping up in the middle of his screen and he had to drag them off to the right side of the screen every time a new one popped up?

It was shortly after the words about party invite were on the screen... so I was assuming they were party members.

However, I am hoping that we can assign where those boxes will pop-up... because dragging them off to the side every time... that will become annoying very quickly.

    4. That cluster load screen seemed like they may be doing their world a bit like Vanguard.  Did anyone else get that impression?  It didn't seem like it was too long... however, the server should be under a very, very light load at this time I would think.

I am still worried about how they will handle lag once we all start filling the world... but I'm hoping they do indeed have it figured out.

Those were the things that I noticed the first pass through in watching the video... might add more after watching a few more times.  Seemed pretty good overall.

As far I know it's 1st for melee and 3rd for ranged.

No it wont, cause we've disscussed it very long ago and came to the conclution that it will do more harm than good in a full loot PvP game.

Yes, probably. Guess we'll have to get use to it, atleast under heavy load.

FINALLY!  A little tick of my skepticism meter.

Not overly impressed with the graphics but this was a video of a Computer Monitor, so it is understandable.  Also I am more into Gampley mechanics and storywise then Graphics.  Let's see more fo this please.

Now if I can get some feedback from an actual player that would go a long way in turning me over............

Its worse to actually think about doing something then actually doing it!!!

And there's still a lot more to come.  That was just a short editing of Shaar's video.  The full video will be posted later.  Can't wait.

And about the cluster load.  Didn't look like that big of a deal.  It was took 2 seconds.  It's way better than getting a loading screen like in some games.

  • kikinchazkikinchaz Member UncommonPosts: 562

Hmm the starter video made me very interested, then once the actually gameplay kicked in I have to admit i was less than impressed.

Graphically looked pretty nice. But the gameplay just looked terribly clunky, and the interface was although "moveable" also very clunky. It doesnt really look like a game that should be coming out this year.

This is what Shaar (the person who was there) had to say on the matter:

"What I was told, and provided I understood right, it will not be like Vanguard. You will be able to see people, mobs etc in the cluster ahead of you. But don't quote me on that..."

And oops, I just quoted him on that.  Oh well :P

I already posted in the other thread that shows this video, but since this one has a more appropriate title, I will repeat myself.

Best video yet.  Exactly what I was looking for - showing us what the player actually sees as the game is played.

  • ste2000ste2000 Member EpicPosts: 6,194

Apparently they invested 10 Million Euros (15 Million dollars) so it hasn't been exactly cheap to develope.

Let's hope it lives up with the expectations..........

And the video looks genuine whether you like it or not ( I like it).

They even showed the cluster zoning spike-lag, so they look pretty confident about their product (no hiding stuff like AoC..........)

When this video came up it bumped the other video to another site and took its place. When the thread was posted the link went to the news report.

With regards to cluster load, there are many things we do not yet know that will have a substantial impact on how this may or may not effect immerssion and game play.

The main one would be the size and therefor number of clusters. If these clusters are around the size of VG's that would be fine imo (but it is VERY personal, everyone will have a preference). Also in my experience I have felt that the load on the server has had fairly low impact on the load times. It is unlikely (read: impossible) that any cluster load will involve the characters within it. The load time was very short IF the clusters are of a decent size.

If however these clusters are of the size of AoC 'zones' that would be an issue, as in AoC towns it breaks immersion and simply frustrates over time. So as with nearly everything else with this game,... we will have to wait and see.

Thanks for the feedback Seggallion and Freefalling.

That makes sense on the camera view.  1st person for melee and 3rd person for ranged.

Would a person be able to walk around with a bow equipped to remain in 3rd person view (for the advantage of seeing more of your surroundings) and then quickly switch to a melee weapon if attacked?

I understand and remember the talk about the "Loot All" doing more harm than good... that was why I brought up for NPC only kills.  I don't remember what they had said about that part of it.  Was it that they didn't have a good way to separate one from the other?  Or, was it more for the chance so that more people could loot items at the same time?

I just see that aspect from that little bit on the video growing into a P.I.T.A. (for me at least).

On the cluster-load aspect... what we saw in the video was fine.  But this was a server almost completely empty of other players... right?  That is the part that worries me the most about Darkfall's feature list... how they can handle the lag.  If they can pull it off... I think the game stands a chance to become huge!

Anyway... very glad the video was posted and we can discuss things actually related to the game and it's gameplay.  It gives us a new perspective on what we will be seeing once we get into the OPEN Beta phase.

Aside from animations that look a bit weird and potentially the delay in loading b/w clusters (could be very annoying, ie. fighting on a cluster line, will have to wait an see), judging by the video I think the game is coming along very nice. Graphics are very solid, obviously not drop dead gorgeous but the game has to be accessible to as many machines as realistically possible (sort've like *gasp* WoW). I still think it looks nicer than WAR but that's totally subjective since the art styles are different.

Anyways, people need to realize that gameplay should always come before graphics and for people to be able to participate in 200 person battles, next-gen graphics are a bit too much.

Can't wait to actually try it out though, until then it's a lot of speculation. But things are looking good!

Its First Person for everything until you draw a melee weapon or mount a horse. First person for bows, for staves, for walking around.

The backpack, and dragging of items is actually changes quite a bit in terms of looting and organizing the bag. There is a good reason there is no loot all function, and if you've ever played UO you'll know why.

Like in most games, you can set the skeleton of where things will appear. I'm sure they won't have them pop in the middle every time.

It reminded me a LOT of Vanguard, and thats not really a bad thing. Vanguard is one of the most immersive worlds I've ever played in, largely seamless. A hickup for a few seconds every hour or so of playing doesn't seem so bad, and considering how big the world is, these points, or "chunk lines" are necessary. Maybe it'll be different at release, none of us know for sure.

Those were the things that I noticed the first pass through in watching the video... might add more after watching a few more times.  Seemed pretty good overall.

The last response was wrong in many regards, I will try to fix it.

As for the graphics comments, I still don't understand. The graphics are obviouslly a big step up over WoW and WAR, and fall short only to games like Vanguard and AoC. If the graphics were much better, how do you think having hundred man battles would do? Especially in a game that is completely twitch based.

  • knas01knas01 Member Posts: 43

There was nothing I didn't like in the video except the little loading paus. I really like the inventory window and how you have to arrange all your stuff. Really nifty I must say.

I also like the artstyle in the game and how all the envirionment can be used to your advantage in combat. Can't wait to play a MMO with real realtime combat where your movments actually matters.

  • originaleggoriginalegg Member Posts: 1,099

Wow taking another look...the graphics are way beyond what the gameplay video in august showed us...

clearly beyond WAR and WoW and certainly not bad

Im so happy this game is comming to life...fans rejoice!
