Darkfall; Will it survive the fanbois and the haters

Now that Darkfall has had a public showing, it is gearing up for open beta, then eventual launch. However, this means that it has to start reaching out to the general public... and this may not go over well.
To this point there have been two large (and vocal) groups:
Fanbois, who blindly praise the game, and violently oppose anyone that doesn't agree with them.
Haters, who ridicule the game, and violently oppose anyone that doesnt agree with them.
Now, with the game being exposed to the general public... BOTH of these groups will continue thier relentless tirades of hate to all who do not totally share thier beliefs.
That means if I dont think that this is the best game in the world... I am suddenly a hater, and all the fanbois will try to pummel me.

So, look around this board... and tell me, do you see the 'normal' players being welcomed?

If it's a good game it will grow.
I hope the normal player stuck in between will be the biggest part of the DF population. The fanbois and haters will be to busy trolling forums while we others play the game.
And how many times a day doesntwe hear cryes about a different MMO? Darkfall is a different MMO. Every player that wants to be part of something bigger will aim fo Darkfall.

How many 'different' MMO's have failed, because they were not mainstream enough? WoW didn't succeed because it was 'different' but rather it succeeded because it did things right.
People play MMO's because they want to interact with other people... if those other people are actively hostile to them, most dont want to stay.
Hostility isn't that high at Forumfall. The occasional spicy rant for the kicks and laughs - sure, but seriously hostile when people go all emo dots, caps lock and excess punctuation and you have in your head the clear image of them hitting their face in the keyboard repeatedly. This i've seen only here and over at WoW forums after someone's class got nerfed.

Darkfall may be different... we dont know yet. From what I've read Darkfall is going to be different from the average WOW clone MMO's available

Personally i couldn't stand it so so really can't say it succeeded for my part
People play MMO's because they want to interact with other people...I don't care about interacting with others tbh but I do like the feel of not being ingame alone lol if those other people are actively hostile to them, most dont want to stay. If u mean hostile by the immature idiots that gank u 3 on 1 with such intellectual cries of noooob and GAY when they inevitably kill u and just spend their time thinking everyone should listen to their insults the I couldn't agree more

Yeah thoric your right, its pretty bad here.... probably because most are from WoW, f2p mmo's or people let down by AoC. lol
I havnt even seen that many blind fanbois on here really, just people who are interested in the game and are refuting and getting really pissed off at all the ignorat trolls that come on here and slag the game off for no reason.

Doesnt matter if thay have a really cool concept gameplay wise, if they try to squize it in a WoW theme : (

For now I like the game design, the graphics and Aventurine attitude not to boast about the game and all the future "missing" features at every occasion (Funcom anyone?)
Of course if things start to look dodgy, I will be the first to raise the alarm, and like me there are many people out there.
Anyway the normal players, who stands between the followers and the haters, will read in amusement all the fireworks, but they will wait until open beta before trusting either of the opposing factions.
So don't worry about them

Its true, i could happily say 90% or maybe higher of the mmorpg's out there use very similar mechanics in many respects of the games and personally i have got really bored of it.
Darkfall is appealing straight away for me even for just one of the features, which is the skill based combat.

By normal players if you mean
Those that want to play DF? Sure I can see them being welcomed.
Those that may be interested in DF? Yep them as well.

I mean having an issue with the game is acceptable and many of us here will debate it and accept that others have different opinions. The problem comes when others come in from different communities with agenda's. Don't get me wrong there are bad apples in all communities and DarkFall does have there's, but this is a problem shared by every community not just ours. I am mildly interested in Aion and Age of Conan (if they can get there chit together) but only as side MMO's because I normaly have 2 MMO's that I play, one when i'm bored and need a break from my main and one as my main. You can check my post history if you wish. I once in a blue moon post something over in the Aions forums, one was because we had several trolls from Aion comming to the DF forums to start chit. I made a post about it. The others were about grind/linear games , MMO's on consoles ect. I haven't gone to the Aion forums starting any kind of troll assualt. I have also occasionaly go to the AoC forums because I am interested in the progress and getting answers to certain questions. I haven't trolled there either I am honestly interested in the success of AoC but I am still a bit weary that it has indeed gotten better because of all the things that made me close my account in the first place.
I unlike those that I call troll do not go to a forum of a game I do not like on a regular or have any interest in and continously troll on a regular basis. I guess you may call me a fanboi if you want because I am at this point in time a fan of DarkFall and even Aventurine for that matter because of how they have handled things and because of what has been presented on DarkFall. Does that mean I will turn a blind eye to problems? No. I agree with those that say the annimations need work, I agree there is a chance the game may fail and I agree that things may not work as they have said they will. I agree that there can be problems with the launch.
However I strongly disagree with those that make comments like the gaphics are worse or on par with games from 1995, or that it is Vaporware, or that it couldn't possibly work and can only fail. I agree that trolls should tone it down or leave (Which would be my preference). But I think you may a bit off base when it comes to the fans. Without the trolls it wouldn't be 3/4 as bad as it is now on these forums. I admit I have jumped the gun at times when someone seems like they are trolling but I make it a point to appologise if I do. The reason I jump the gun however is due to the fact that there are few that actually have legitamit complaints compaired to the number of trolls that are in this forum, make that this site in general.

Sadly, the fanboy faction was created by the hater faction. So many years of just having hordes of people go "lolz vaporware" without having done any research or even looked at the site, made the more vocal people snap. The vast majority of Darkfall fans don't even bother going to other forums, and they just don't really care what people say about the game. They just believe, if it does what they say it'll do, it will do fine.
Now this could go either way here. If the game delivers, it'll be fine. If it has small issues with it, the vast hordes of people that have been waiting to say "told you so!" will destroy the game to the outside community. Everyone else, the some 150k people on the forums, will just laugh and play anyway.

Seems to me of it is a fun game then people will play.
If a 'normal' player can't accomplish anything at all in-game without being immediately and then endlessly slaughtered by a skill maxed ganker then a large potential audience will go elsewhere. If constant guild or group assistance is needed 24/7 to even enter the game then only the stalker types will be left...which may appeal to enough of an audience but we were talking about the mass of players in the middle.
I realize there are aspects of Darkfall that seem to counter this and I agree that it should be a violent and uncaring place to adventure but we will have to wait and see how it actually pans out.
The threat of death (loot loss) should always be there but if it is guaranteed to be there 100% of the time upon entry then people will leave. They have to have a chance, perhaps not a great chance but being constantly insta-killed will put most people off.
I won't argue the 'ganking' topic here (due to lack of concrete info and the pointless nature of it) but essentially what I am saying is that forum fanbois or haters will not make a large difference in the reception of Darkfall. Fan made videos and free trials will determine the launch success of this one in my opinion.
I'm thinking...cult hit that has a shaky start but grows over time.
The game will sell itself if the gameplay works thats as far as it goes at the moment. If you think fanbois and haters really count that much when a game is good you are deluded.

I am in the same boat as you, but for some reason when i criticize or point out things people think i am a heater. Show me someone that wants a game to fail for personal reasons and I will show you a fool. Likewise show me a fanboi that blindly follows a game and never criticize's it and I will also show you a fool. There are many fools at this site.

TheBrewer and people like him is what is turning me off to DF and not the game itself. Playing any mmo is all about the community. You can't have a good game without the other.

I really think success will come down to two things neither of which are what the forum community is like:
1. Is the game fun?
2. Does it have a lot of bugs?
Most mmorpgs releases fail because of one of the above, if Aventurine can release a stable game that is also fun then it will do well.

The promises DF are offering TO ME are the best an MMO can offer... you just arent comprehending the TO ME part very well.
