man, if 20 hours a week is "casual" then i'm so far below i don't even know what to call it... RL only lets me get five to ten hours a week in.
Well I'd say 10-20 hours is casual for an MMO. 5 Hours a week? In an MMO? That's practically not playing. MMO's require a little more time than your average game. No offense. If all you have is 5 hours a week then that's all you got, but I don't think you'd even ever run out of rest bonus at that rate.
Let me ask you something. How many hours a week do you watch TV or movies or listen to music or partake in some other form of entertainment? I do very little of any of that. All my kids are grown and out of the house. I work 40 hours a week. Most of my entertainment time is spent playing video games. I don't think 20 hours is too excessive. Most people I know that don't play video games get at least 20 hours of TV watching in during the week.
what. your a 45 year old dad...i thought you where like 20...hehe
ps: im not trying to insult you in any way shape or form. its cool to have older people gameing il probably game on my death bed.
man, if 20 hours a week is "casual" then i'm so far below i don't even know what to call it... RL only lets me get five to ten hours a week in.
Yeah, I can only get 12 hours max per week most of the time, on maybe 4 different nights, and most of my family and friends still consider that excessive (they describe me as a hard-core gamer!). I have too many other things I like to do, and if the sun is out on the weekend I'm not going to hole-up in my house in front of a computer. Sorry, but if you're playing the same game 20 hours a week (which is half of a full-time job!) then you're pretty dedicated, IMO.
Im still on the fence about getting the expansion. I just dont want the same repetetive stuff over again. However if my friends tell me its worth it. Ill get on try the new talents for all my 70's first and then if I dont feel a pull to one of them ill try out making a death knight.
as far as time played, usually try to get in 1-2 hours a night and then play all day on saturday and some if im lucky on Sunday.
P.S. When my wife is working and I have the week off is when i get the most play time, go vacation and holidays! In fact Christmas and Turkey day is comming! I smell game time on the horizon!
Wow. I didn't expect that kind of percentage for "not buying" considering this is the wow forums. Well I guess WAR fans do come here out of spite but still.
I've all but decided not to buy it and have friends who for the first time ever are quitting. I was kinda wondering if we were just a snapshot of what's going on in the wider gaming world.
Looks like blizz had maybe better hurry up with some of their other titles as this could be a pretty unpopular expansion. I mean sure, a ton of people will want to take their toon to 80 and players will return for the new content but everywhere I go I hear "don't want to do the same old crap again" and "I hate having to do arenas for pvp".
I know blizz has to be nervous as they're adding ridiculas stuff mirroring some of WAR's features. Should be interesting to watch.
I'm going to wait in line outside GameStop in the cold, and at midnight when they open the doors I shall set fire to myself in the street to protest the intellectual laziness of the common man.

Actually I'm a 45 year old Grandpa of 2, hence the name. No offense taken. Most of the people I play video games with are at least in their 30's. This whole BS that the game is for 12 year olds is nonsense.
And one last rebuttal to those who say that 20 hours a week is pretty hard core, well I think it all boils down to your lifestyle. I'm 45. I used to play softball about 2 or 3 nights a week which usually took up at least 2 or 3 hours (game and mandatory beer afterwards with buddies), but I gave that up a few years back when the beer drinking started to become more important than the game I used to watch TV practically every night for a couple hours, but I've given that up for the most part too because the crap on TV these days isn't worth my time. I used to spend my whole weekend on the soccer fields with my family, but my kids are now grown and in college and have kids of their own. I commute from my home in Missouri to Dallas where I work, so I only get to see my wife about 1 weekend a month and when I do see her, I don't touch the computer the entire time. What exactly should I be doing with my time? I guess I could go back to school or something. Maybe get a hobby?
I like playing video games and I have some free time on my hands every night and most of the weekend. Besides it's not like I'm just playing WoW. I am in fact on Ventrilo talking, joking, laughing, discussing world events, my kids and family and whatever else comes to mind with friends the whole time. Can't think of much that would be more rewarding than that. To each his own. I suspect that when some of you are 45 with grandchildren, you'll see things slightly differently.
By the way, according to surveys, the average WoW game playing time per week is 21.9. So I would consider anything below that pretty much casual and everything above that more hardcore. So yeah 20 hours is kinda right in the middle between casual and hard core. Semi-casual sounds about right.
And according to Nielson, the average American watches over 4 hours of TV a day. That's 28 hours a week. So if the average person just turns off the TV, they can easily get in 20 hours of gaming a week.
WoW players motivating each others to find some appeal in this expansion are like the event going on right now, brainless zombies infecting each others to feel strong in masses.
On topic: won't play this old recycled boring and ugly product for sure, I love too much video games to waste my time on this pos.

Working 10-12 hours, picking up a copy of WotLK then play WAR until my guild let's me know when I can start playing the expansion without 90% of the server population lag crashing the guild. (TBC it took me almost 2 months before things got spread out enough where I could actually go do the new end content, several days before I could roll an alt on the new races. And no, it wasn't my system)
gona jerk off play fallout 3 maybe call of duty world at war or gta 4 (wich ever comes first) gona learn go to fitness jerk off again..... and again.......again lol then gona laugh at the server crashes of Wotlk with war buddies

Think the zombie raids are kind of fun, actually....I won't be buying WotLK immediately...probably give it a month or so...
I'll likely be playing WAR. But I will give my mother a call on the phone and ask her what she thinks of it. I am buying it for her as a gift cause i know she is into that sort of game.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

And yet, you just keep comming back.
And the haters set wow up as the gold standard to compare their new game to!!!!!!!!!
What I am NOT going to do is purchase WOTLK for our six accounts.
This decision comes after these past few weeks of being unable to play WOW due to their own stupidity and constantly standing in the graveyard (instead of crafting, banking, AH and getting ready for WOTLK). That coupled with the patch issues, Wife's account being corrupted when she was killed as a Zombie and now unplayable (requires a restore), guild bank items database entry corrupted (can't sell or use anything that was in guild bank), etc.
Apparently Blizz forgot that we PAY to PLAY (I drop $90 a month into their coffer). By taking that away from the player (you can flag for PVP if so desired) and forcing all game advancement to come to a standstill we have chosen to move on to another game.
Sad as I still believe WOW has the best engine and game experience for a Dad/Mom/Kids to play together.

HAHA. And we're going to be laughing at the ever-increasingly lower and lower population of WAR servers with our WoW buddies. Should be a fun time all around for both sets of FANBOIS, huh?
Maybe if you quit playing as many games and got out more (you know, and met some real women, other than Rosey Palm and her five sisters) that "jerk off" phrase would be included less in your itinerary for the day......

Get up and go to work ( I know this is a swear word for most wow kiddies). Come home, play some fable II or warhammer.
Go to work, stop at the bar after work, eat, play WAR for a bit, go to bed.

Just shows how these forums are anything but a correct representation of the MMOG community - thankfully. ;-)

Well being that I am on Argent Dawn server, probably sitting my ass in a que for 2-3 damn hours.
Don't know if i'm going to play it but i will buy the Collectors Edition anyhow.
If i play it, i will roll a Death Knight and enjoy the new class, story and quests. And after that, it's straight to Northrend!
